Excerpt:

Cassius Cupid woke with a start, and then sat bolt upright in his bed. Shit, I’m going to be late! was his first thought.

Milliseconds later his brain switched on, and he remembered. He was on holiday. Flopping back onto the warm mattress and pillows with a contented sigh, he smiled. No work for fourteen whole days—it was going to be utter bliss. He stretched, relishing the feeling it created in his sleep-softened muscles. Ahhh…this is the life.

He knew he wouldn’t go back to sleep—hell, it was eight o’clock, which was practically the middle of the day for someone in his profession—so Cassius fell to thinking about how he was going to spend his day, not to mention the several others in front of him. God knew he deserved to relax and have some fun. He’d just emerged from the busiest part of his year, and he was more than ready to do some chilling out.

He enjoyed his job as a postman—he really did—but the Christmas period was a total killer. He idly wondered how many cards and presents he’d delivered over the past few weeks. It didn’t bear thinking about. Once you factored in the festive period itself, the weird few days between Christmas and New Year, and then the flurry of mail that got sent when everyone went back to work properly at the beginning of January, he’d racked up some serious deliveries. And that was before you even thought about his other job—which was for just one day a year, but was arguably more important than the other 364 put together.

Cassius—or Cupid, as he was known to his boss and colleagues in his second, but most important job—was not only a regular postman for the Royal Mail, but also a reindeer. For a single day of the year, Cassius had the supernatural power to transform into one of Santa’s faithful steeds and help pull that famous magical sleigh, delivering presents to excited children the world over.

Therefore, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Cassius really did eat, sleep and breathe deliveries, but not for the next fourteen days. All he planned to do was watch some TV, read some books, maybe go out hiking, meet some friends… basically anything that wasn’t delivering something to someone. Hey, he might even receive something through the post himself—preferably not the usual crap; bills and junk mail. He didn’t hold out much hope.

He lounged in bed for another ten minutes before realising he was lying there just for the sake of it. Being on holiday didn’t have to equal staying in bed all day—and certainly not for someone as active as him. He reached over to his bedside table, grabbed his glasses and put them on. Throwing off his thick duvet, he walked to his bedroom window and peeked out through the curtains, immediately glad of the effective central heating he and his housemate had forked out to have installed the previous year.

The outside world was covered in a thick layer of snow, and Cassius was mightily glad that he wasn’t out delivering letters and parcels. The stuff was treacherous enough without having to carry a heavy bag up and down driveways, paths, and pavements — most of which either hadn’t been cleared, or had been cleared badly, leaving incredibly slippery patches of ground for an unsuspecting postie to come across. God knows he’d gone down enough times, but, much to his relief, nobody had ever seen him do it. He’d always been relatively unharmed—excerpt for his pride, of course—and had been able to scramble back to his feet and carry on.

The eerie silence outside was broken by the rumble of an engine, and Cassius turned his head to look up the street—he lived in a cul-de-sac, so he knew that’s where the vehicle would come from—and watched as a delivery van made its way slowly and carefully down the road. He hoped the driver was sensible enough to try and steer over the thickest parts of the snow—the more people went over and over the same patches, packing it down, the more the road surface resembled an ice rink. And since the cul-de-sac was on a slight hill, it was easy enough to get stuck. He’d seen it so many times—even going outside one time last winter to suggest the driver go down to the bottom of the road, turn around and try reversing up the hill—an almost foolproof plan for vans with rear-wheel drive. He’d gotten a big thumbs-up for that suggestion as the driver finally got to the junction where the road became flat, and went on his merry way.

As the van drew closer to his house, he saw that the driver was a woman. That would explain her cautious driving—he’d never admit it to one of his drinking buddies, but women were far superior when it came to driving in adverse weather conditions. He even thought he’d seen some survey containing statistics that proved it.

Timeless NNight

Welcome to 25 Days of Holiday Fun with author Torie James

If you could ask Santa for one thing, what would it be and why? Patience. I always run out.

What is your favorite holiday candy? Peppermint Candy Canes. I think I have a problem

It’s the season of Egg Nog. Do you prefer it with rum, without alcohol or can’t stand the stuff? I have seasonal love affair with the Nog. I tend to like it plain but if rum were to “accidentally” fall into it, I’d still love it.

What is one of your holiday traditions to do each year? Decorating the house and our tree. The whole familia gets involved. It’s comical with a touch of homocidial thrown in by the end of the day.

If you could kiss any character under the mistletoe, who would it be? Lestat de Lioncourt.

Holiday cookies are my favorite to bake each year. Do you have a favorite holiday cookie that you enjoy each year? I have two! Red and Green M&M cookies and Snickerdoodles! My mum bakes the best!

A silent guardian, Alexander has walked the corridors of time in pursuit of an end to a haunting prophecy. Sabrina has lived a life surrounded by modern magic, unaware that the greatest and deadliest of powers reside within her own soul. If it only takes the light of love to ignite the stars, what of the decadent seduction of darkness? All roads don’t lead home and some myths only grow into legend.

Excerpt:

She gasped, feeling every inch of his obvious arousal pressing into her belly through the fabric and almost fainted at the thought of him taking her. A thought that compelled one hand to slide down his rock hard torso, lower still to drift over steely, washboard abs and dance along the material gathered at his waist. Material that suddenly loosened and dropped to the floor between them and then there was nothing but bare flesh before her and she had to tear her mouth away even though she wanted the kiss to last forever. His heavy groan filled the bathroom as her fingers dropped a few inches lower to brush his straining shaft, just once. There was no shyness in her touch.

“Sabrina. Stop. Or I’ll –”

“Or you’ll what? Throw me down and fuck me senseless? I hope so.” The feel of him pulsing under her touch, the heated throb of the man was a sensory experience that had an echoing ache suddenly dampening her thighs in anticipation.

Alex’s voice was rugged, harsh, his own dark green eyes glowing with a touch of crimson, proof he wanted her blood as much as her body. “Gods, you’re so vulgar.” There was no derision in his statement this time, just a gentle teasing.

“No, I’m honest. I’ve wanted you from the beginning. And judging by this…” she trailed off and stroked him once more, a gesture that tore another growl from him. “I’d say you want me, too.”

His eyes almost shut from the intense pleasure just that one soft caress gave him. Taking a deep inward breath, he schooled his features back into a mask of indifference and dropped his curled fingers from around her neck, stepping back and bending low to pick up the fallen towel. Wrapping it around him, he gave her his back, turning towards the sink, keeping his tone deceptively cold. “Get dressed, Sabrina. I told you once before, fledgling. What you want will never happen. Not between us. I don’t want you like that.”

“Liar.”

He gave her a long look, full of danger and savage heat before he pushed past her, not saying one more word. Only when she was sure he was out of her sight did she allow her own face to crumple, eyes bright with the pain his words gave her.

If you could ask Santa for one thing, what would it be and why?

I would ask Santa for an all-expenses-paid trip to Florida for hubby and me so we can have a nice couple’s vacation.

What is your favorite holiday candy?

Ribbon candy. When I was little, eating ribbon candy was one of the Christmas highlights.

It’s the season of Egg Nog. Do you prefer it with rum, without alcohol or can’t stand the stuff?

I have a severe allergy to alcohol, so definitely without!

What is one of your holiday traditions to do each year?

The only annual Christmas tradition we have is that we each get to open one present on Christmas Eve, and then we do the rest Christmas morning.

If you could kiss any character under the mistletoe, who would it be?

Tobias Rogan from my Real Werewolves Don’t Eat Meat series.

Holiday cookies are my favorite to bake each year. Do you have a favorite holiday cookie that you enjoy each year?

I am horrid at baking, so I don’t make any holiday cookies. My mother used to make freezer cookies with chunks of dried fruit in them, and I always loved those, but I’ve never made them myself.

Excerpt:
“What are you thinking?” Isaiah stood in front of him, the front of his boxer-briefs mere inches from Randall’s face.
“I want to suck you.” Randall blurted it out without intending to say it out loud. He was a much bigger fan of receiving oral than giving but he would suck Isaiah’s dick without hesitation if it was what Isaiah wanted.
“Not this time.” Isaiah toyed with the waistband of his briefs but didn’t push them down. “I suck, I fuck. You enjoy. Maybe some other time I’ll let you suck me off.” He paused. “Will there be some other time, baby? You aren’t the repeat partner type, are you?”
“I can be.” He wasn’t. He’d had a few regular fuck-buddies in the decade or so since he’d started having sex but they hadn’t lasted. He didn’t mind fucking the same person more than once except when they started seeing regular sex as some kind of commitment.
“We don’t have to figure it out right yet.” Isaiah stroked Randall’s hair. “Soft. I want to feel your hair against my chest while I fuck you. Think you can sit on my dick, baby? That’s how I want you but we can find another way if you can’t handle it.”
“I can.” The idea of looking down into those gorgeous eyes while they fucked sent hot chills through him. He would fucking drown in Isaiah’s eyes and he wouldn’t even care.
“Good.” Isaiah stroked himself through his briefs and Randall ached to touch him. To grab the interfering item of clothing and yank it out of the way.
But he kept his hands to himself, knowing without being told that if he pushed his luck he would leave the room unsatisfied and unfucked.
“Do you want me to take these off?” Isaiah asked in a teasing tone. “Do you want to see what you’re getting?”
“Yes.” Randall hissed out the word on a long breath. He was even more turned-on than he’d been before the blowjob and he wasn’t sure how much longer he could wait.

What is your favorite holiday candy?

Candy in England are sweeties.  I am rather partial to Foxes Glacier fruits, and tins of chocolates.

It’s the season of Egg Nog. Do you prefer it with rum, without alcohol or can’t stand the stuff?

You know, I’ve never had it.  In the 1970s there was a drink called Advocaat, which was yellow and tasted a bit like custard.  Mix it with lime, lemonade and serve with several cocktail cherries.  It was called a Snowball.  I think that’s the English version of Egg Nog.  I know we have mulled wine, but I’m not keen.  I guess my favourite tipple at Chrimbo would be the classic sparkling wine like a dry cava.

What is one of your holiday traditions to do each year?

Having a glass of sparkling wine whilst helping my mother in law in the kitchen on Christmas day.  Keeping the glass topped up, is the cooks helpers privilege.

If you could kiss any character under the mistletoe, who would it be?

Of mine? Probably Joel Harper.  As for my favourite film star, it would have to be Richard Armitage who plays Thorin Oakenshield in the Hobbit.  Sigh!

Holiday cookies are my favorite to bake each year. Do you have a favorite holiday cookie that you enjoy each year?

Mincemeat pinwheels.  Spread a sheet of ready-made puff pastry with mincemeat (we soak ours in brandy).  Roll up and freeze for 20 minutes. Slice into thin pieces and place on a greased baking tray.  Bake for 10 mins in a medium oven 200C.  While warm, separate from the tray and sprinkle over icing (powdered) sugar.  I mix mine with cinnamon and mixed spice for that extra zing.  Delicious.  However, I do have a major indulgence for the humble homemade mince pie.  Especially my mothers and mother in laws.  They are both great.

It’s true, picking up a teenagers’ underpants for the umpteenth time can lead to a mid-life crisis. Widow Pann Haggerty, an Englishwoman of a ‘certain age’ decides to leave her life in England behind for a trip around America in an RV in search of new experiences maybe even love.

Filled with a notebook full of ideas from the movies and television shows, Pann is addicted to, she arrives in New York determined to walk barefoot in the park and eat an English breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Disaster awaits for Pann in every state she visits, but with her on this journey is her knight in shining armor ‘average’ Joe Harper.  Her protector and guide in this new and exciting country.   He is there to save his country from this quirky, impulsive, yet loveable woman, who is hell bent on taking the States by storm, and perhaps even his heart!

Excerpt:

“What do you think you are doing, crazy lady?” Joe said slowly.

“Well, duh,” Pann mocked him. “What does it look like? I’m having a tea party. Where better to have one…than here?” She announced taking a bow. Cutting a piece of sunken, lopsided cake, Pann put it on a napkin and handed it to Joe.

“I knew you were up to something,” Joe muttered taking a bite of the cake. It tasted much better than it looked.

“You can’t have a tea party without cake,” Pann said stubbornly.

Joe took a deep breath. “Wrong revolution, darlin’. That was the French one,” he informed her.

“And the tea party?” asked Pann, totally confused by all the history being thrown at her.

“To do with taxing of tea. Crates of it were thrown overboard and into the river.”

“That’s terrible. What an absolute waste of perfectly good tea.” Pann sniffed in disgust. She sat down with her own cup and munched on her cake.

Joe couldn’t resist taking a photograph of her.

“Say Tea Party!” he teased. Pann stuck her tongue out at him. Joe continued taking photographs anyway. She pulled up her jeans at one point, exposing red socks.

“Pann what are you wearing?”

“Red socks. You said Boston was the home of the Red Socks. So I am wearing them because I’m in Boston.”

“Pann, you crazy English lady. When I said Boston was home to the red socks, I meant the Red Sox. A baseball team,” Joe said slowly and carefully so she would understand.

“Baseball,” Pann thought for a moment. “Is that like rounders?”

“You have to be kidding me! You’ve never heard of baseball?” Joe’s voice was incredulous.

“Of course I have. You hit a ball with a round stick. Then run around the field and touch bases. That’s rounders.” The tone of her voice dared him to argue the toss.

“What about football?” Joe decided to open the can all the way.

“Rugby,” Pann countered.

“Soccer?”

“Football.” Pann was evidently enjoying her banter with him.

He sat down on the steps and put his head in his hands.

“Save me from this crazy English woman,” he pleaded to no one in particular

“Sorry, pal. You’re on your own,” replied a passer-by

Candice Cane is not proud of the way she acted after her last encounter with Jackson Frost. Sure revenge was fun, but it’s left Jackson standing, angry and looking for answers, on the welcome mat in her chocolate shop. Now he’s after some revenge of his own.

Jackson returned to his small hometown for one reason and one reason only…so he’s not sure how he’s ended up in a Santa suit in the middle of a chocolate shop, at the behest of its beautiful owner, instead of high-tailing it back to the city as fast as he can.

Excerpt

‘You can change…’ Candi stopped. Did he have no modesty? Jackson whisked his blue, long-sleeved shirt over his head and stepped from his dark trousers. He stood in front of her in only a black T-shirt and matching boxers.

Candi’s cheeks burned, but she couldn’t look away. He was beautiful, even more than she remembered. The thin T-shirt stretched across the planes of his chest. His legs were long and muscled. If Jackson meant to embarrass her, his plan worked. Unable to tear her gaze away, she watched as he stepped into the red pants and slipped his arms into the coat. He strapped on the pillow-stuffed belly bag and fumbled with the buttons through the fake fur trim.

The pants were a bit short, but nothing the boots wouldn’t hide. The coat fit snug across his broad shoulders and the pants clung nicely to his butt. Candi sucked in a breath and passed him a wig and fluffy, white beard. Jackson rolled his eyes, donning the fake hair, and topped off the disguise with a floppy red hat.

‘How do I look?’

He would definitely win over the children, but a sinking feeling washed through her stomach when she envisioned the youngsters fighting their mothers to see who first sat on Santa’s lap. ‘Just like jolly old Saint Nick,’ she said. But much hotter!

Animal rights activist Rachel Fox is a woman with a mission. The plan is to step into bull rider Logan Cooper’s ring wearing nothing but a poster calling the rodeo a ‘blood sport’. While rescuing this passionate protester from a nineteen hundred pound charging bull Logan decides he likes what he sees. Only problem, he’s got to direct Rachel’s love away from the livestock and onto him. With the press hot on their heels, because who isn’t interested in a story about a bull rider and a naked protester, Logan brings the dark haired, curvy figured Brooklynite to his Montana ranch.

Except, now that he’s got Rachel in his bed he’s nervous his annoying, problematic brothers and surly preteen nephew will scare her off. But when Rachel meets Logan’s deeply flawed family she realizes the bulls aren’t the only ones who need saving, the Cooper brothers need her help too. The only problem is Rachel has a secret, after believing she was infertile, it turns out that this sexy bull rider may have changed her childless fate forever.

Excerpt:

“Would you please stop gawking at me and give me a blanket to cover myself with?” Rachel Fox demanded, cupping her breasts in both hands and shifting on her heels. With a crossed leg she tried to hide her exposed bottom half and almost fell face first into the sod-covered floor.

Good God, why did she let Erin talk her into this?

Honestly, Rachel was more than willing to do anything to save Punisher and the other bulls from the abuse they suffered at the hands of cowboys like the man standing before her. But God help her, she was still shaking from the reaction of that angry mob. And Logan Cooper had no right spanking her. Now, he was denying her clothes.

The woman in the long, black cape appeared at night the way visions usually do. Alexandra Pirrot, FBI agent, traveled to a historical chateau in the French countryside. She is chosen by the chateau’s resident ghost to return to the gruesome time of 1789—the French Revolution—when blood ran down the streets of Paris. She is determined to piece together the long held secrets and mystery surrounding her family. To help link the past and the present, Alexandra joined forces with French attorney, Jean Paul Morneau, who has been hired to defend the present day chateau owner on murder charges.

Two sets of footprints are led by the ghost on a romantic journey, into a time of treachery and betrayal, to rescue one of the aristocracy from Madam Guillotine and to help another who is no longer alive, but has not crossed over, find peace.

Excerpt

When the apparition appears, it appears at night the way visions usually do.

Blood ran down the streets of Paris in 1789. FBI agent, Alexandra Pirrot, is transported to the eighteenth century to help an aristocrat escape Madame Guillotine and to help another soul who is no longer alive, to find peace and to cross over.

Alexandra Pirrot travels to a historical French chateau that she believes belongs to her family. Strange dreams and visions of the chateau and its history have haunted her since childhood. They become real when on her first night. She awakes to a hushed voice. A jewel encrusted and nobly dressed eighteenth century woman stands by her bed begging for help. Before Alexandra is able to react, the visitor vanishes into the full-length mirror.

The next morning Alexandra is drawn to a portrait hanging in the hallway near her room. She realizes her visitor was the woman in the painting. This woman is wearing an amethyst ring resembling the one Alexandra inherited from her mother.

When the ghost appears again, Alexandra understands the dead still have a hand to play. She pledges to help the ghost. Her vacation turns into a hunt for the truth.

She discovers a twist of her amethyst ring is the catalyst that brings the ghost into the twenty-first century and allows her to move back and forth through the centuries.

The last thing she expects is that she will find a lover who will help her chase every shadow and pursue every lead into betrayal, conspiracy, and murder.

One of Jean Paul Morneau’s ancestors disappeared the day the Bastille fell and is never seen again. His estate becomes the property of the revolutionaries. Jean Paul is determined to prove that the chateau and its treasures belong to his family.

To be close to the chateau, in order to prove his theory, he leaps at the chance to defend the present owner, who is accused of murder. The chateau owner declares he is innocent and that a figure charged out from one of the upstairs hallway paintings and committed the crime. Jean Paul doesn’t believe in ghosts; however he is convinced something bizarre is going on.

Jean Paul never fails to prove his innocence of his clients, but this time he has fewer clues than ever before. Intrigued with Alexandra, he enlists her help to save his client.

When the door to the past is ripped open, two sets of foot prints travel back in time to the French Revolution.  As they travel to Paris and the French countryside, Alexandra and Jean Paul become part of the reenactment of the unspeakable horrors of 1789. While their romance deepens, they work together to solve the secrets and mysteries that surround the chateau.
