Excerpt:

“The trouble with this arrangement,” Rex commented as he walked across the room, “is that I’m enjoying it rather too much.” He watched her reaction.

Carmen stopped dead, standing on the patterned rug in the middle of the room. “What are you saying?”

Rex sat down in a winged armchair. “For a month you do everything I want, every weekend, absolutely anything and everything.” He paused, allowing his message to sink in. “And in return for that you get my half of the property.”

“I told you I’d pay.”

Those eyes of hers, such defiance. How delicious it was to see her fire.

“That won’t be necessary. You will have earned every tiny part of the property by the time I hand it over. Don’t worry about the money.”

She knotted her fingers together. “You’re trying to embarrass me. That wasn’t part of the bargain.”

“I don’t agree. Mostly because I don’t seem to have to try very hard before you get embarrassed. I think you’re embarrassment trigger and your arousal trigger are very close together.” He lifted his shoulders in a shrug. “I can’t help that, and neither can you.”

She pressed her lips together. She was clearly annoyed, and yet he could also see that she was acutely aroused. The hands-on treatment he’d given her out in the grounds had her poised for action. She was taut and watchful, barely waiting to be instructed.

Rex took a deep breath and savored the heady atmosphere of sexual anticipation.

When she noticed, she hissed as if in objection.

Rex lifted an eyebrow. She lowered her eyelids, but watched him from beneath her lashes. Rex laughed. Had Carmen Shelby always had these withheld submissive desires? It hadn’t been obvious before, of that he was certain. And the constant battle she was having with her needs—was that part of the package? Or was this dilemma of hers because she’d revealed her trigger to him, perhaps inadvertently? Whatever the reason, neither of them could put it back in the box now. No way. Now that he knew her little kinks and foibles he intended to play them out to their full extent.

“So what is the problem?” she demanded after he left her standing there in silence while he admired her.

“A month might not be enough.”

She glared at him.

“It’s day two and I’m loving every moment,” he continued. “Seems such a shame to put an end date on it.”

“You’re winding me up.”

“I’m being honest.” He was. This was too good.

“In which case you lied to me. If you don’t intend to stand up to your end of the deal, I’m walking out of here right now, and if I have to do that I promise you I will only deal with you through a solicitor!”

Angry Carmen was hellishly hot.

“Is this the ballsy businesswoman speaking now, or are you saying you can’t handle more than a month of this?”

Her eyes blazed.

“Seriously, aren’t you enjoying our time together?”

“You know I am, in some weird fucked-up way.” She folded her arms across her chest. “But I want a limit on it, for the sake of my sanity.”

Sanity? What did that really mean? He’d find out, all in good time. He knew he’d pushed her on the terms. “Fair enough. I suppose I’ll have to stick to my word.”

“It’s only sex,” she blurted, as if it was an afterthought.

“It is…and I must say I’m liking these kinky sex games of yours.”

“Mine?”

“Yes. Yours. Okay, let’s begin.”

She rolled her eyes.

“I’d like you to prove to me how much you want the house and how hard you’d work to get it.”

“Now you really are trying to humiliate me.”

“Not at all. You said it made it easier for you when I took charge. Although I do think there’s a part of you that likes that…the humiliation.”

Oh, how her cheeks flamed.

Rex smiled. “Strip for me.”

Long bio:

Award-winning British author Saskia Walker first dreamed of writing her own stories when she discovered a handful of romance novels stashed away in her school library. An avid reader, she lapped up the adventures and the life-affirming emotion of these stories, but always felt dismay when the bedroom door closed the reader out. She vowed that in her stories all the passion would be right there on the page!

Saskia began writing in the late 1990s. By that time she’d traveled the world, gained a B.A. in art history, an M.A. in literature and the visual arts and she’d worked in several diverse careers—but the stories in her head simply had to be written.

It is the combination of potent eroticism and strong storytelling that has become the leading characteristic of Saskia’s work. Fascinated with seduction, she loves to explore how and why we get from saying “hello” to sharing our most intimate selves in moments of extreme passion. She writes across genres, often incorporating elements of history, the paranormal and the fantastic in her work. As well as many novel- and novella-length publications, Saskia’s work has now appeared in more than seventy international anthologies. Her debut novel received the Passionate Plume award for the Best Contemporary Erotic Romance of 2006, and two of her novels have been nominated for a RT Book Reviews Reviewers’ Choice Award.

Nowadays Saskia is happily settled in Yorkshire, in the north of England, with her real-life hero, Mark, and a houseful of stray felines. You can visit her website for more info.

Welcome Hunter Raines Today

Hi and welcome to my blog, Hunter Raines. Please make yourself at home and grab a drink from my hunky cabana boys, Zeke and Jake.  So tell us a little about yourself.

Thanks for having me here! A little about myself… Well, I’m a 32-year old full time writer of erotic romance. I’ve been married to my wonderful husband for nearly 14 years (you do the math!). We don’t have children, but we’ve got an absolutely adorable little cat named Texas, who joined our family – you guessed it! – when we lived in Texas. We’ve since moved back to Canada, where we’re both from. I’ve been published since 2003, but I only made the switch to writing full time in 2011. It’s been quite a change, and I’m still adjusting… I have a feeling I’ll still be “adjusting” a decade from now!

So tell us a little about your latest book. What inspired this masterpiece?

SIGHT UNSEEN is a male/male paranormal erotic romance. It’s the story of Daniel Van Doren, who used to be a popular author of young adult novels until a car accident killed his lover and took his sight. If that wasn’t bad enough, the accident left him with the unusual ability to see ghosts. He’s reluctantly made peace with this newfound “talent”, and has even started working with the local police department on unsolved crimes so the ghosts who haunt him can move on. When Logan Riley approaches him with an offer to write his biography for a nice sum of money, Danny’s concerned – as well he should be. Logan plans to discredit him and show the world he’s nothing but a fraud. But Logan’s plans go awry when he finds himself drawn to Danny’s quiet sincerity, and begins to doubt whether he really knows what’s going on. To make matters worse, when a spirit learns to harness the energy between worlds and comes after Danny, Logan may be the one to blame…

As for the inspiration, well, I really love ghost stories. Creepy ones, romantic ones, the ones that send a tingle down your back… I love them all. I wanted to put a different spin on a ghost story, and I’ve always had tremendous respect for the blind. The incredible things they can do even without the use of their sight has always amazed me. I wanted to research blindness, and create a sympathetic, realistic character. When I combined the two ideas, I had my story.

If you had any super powers, what would they be and why?

Teleportation. There’s nothing I hate more than commuting anywhere, and being stuck in traffic is the pits. I’d really love to think myself anywhere in the world, and poof! There I am.

What genre haven’t you tried yet but want to in the future?

I’ve written in a variety of genres, but I have a real passion for epic fantasy. I’d love to be brave enough to tackle a book in that genre someday.

What is one thing readers might be surprised to know about you?

I got married at 18, after knowing my husband-to-be for only 5 months! And no, I wasn’t pregnant, nor was it an arranged marriage. It was love, pure and simple. 14 years later, it was still the best decision I’ve ever made in my life. Is it any wonder I’m such a romantic?

If we asked your muse to describe you in three words, what do you think they might say?

I’m pretty sure my muse would call me indecisive, passionate, and prolific.

What authors can be found in your library of books?

Umm… do you have all day? My library is made up of 3,200 books (at last count), and those are just the print books I haven’t read yet! Needless to say, the author list is very, very long. Some of my favorites are George R. R. Martin, Dean Koontz, Nora Roberts, Tad Williams, Katie McAllister, Guy Gavriel Kay, and many, many more!

Have any guilty pleasures you want to share with us?

I’m a reality TV addict. There, I said it. I love vegging out in front of an episode of Hell’s Kitchen, Top Chef, The Amazing Race, Face Off, Survivor, Project Runway, America’s Next Top Model, Craft Wars, or another similar show.

Is there anything you’re currently working on that you can give us a taste of?

I’m in-between projects right now. I just finished edits on a male/male romantic suspense titled SCANDAL FEVER, which will be released by Loose Id in September, 2012.

What is your favorite way to relax after a hard day working and writing?

This ties back in to my guilty pleasure answer! I love grabbing a cold drink and indulging in an episode of a reality TV show.

What is one historical figure you would love to chat with and why?

Cleopatra. I’m fascinated by ancient history, and I’m curious whether she was really as sexy, alluring, and charismatic as we believe her to have been. I bet she’d have a lot of interesting things to say about the men in her life, and about ruling a nation.

Would you care to mention any upcoming or WIP projects that readers can look forward from you in the future?

I briefly mentioned SCANDAL FEVER, which will be released as part of the “Coming Out Day” theme at Loose Id. It’s a romantic suspense m/m erotic romance featuring an out-and-proud reality TV star (see how my guilty pleasure ties back in to my work?), and a closeted detective who’s assigned to protect him after he witnesses a crime. I’m really looking forward to seeing this book released! I had a lot of fun writing it.

Out of all your books, do you have a favorite one? If not, then which one is closest to your heart?

My favorite book is definitely SIGHT UNSEEN. I fell in love with Danny as I wrote him, and I adored Logan as well. Their story is very close to my heart.

Thanks for coming. Is there anything else you want to add?

Thanks so much for having me! I invite readers to find me on my website, at www.hunterraines.com, and follow me on Twitter – @hrainesauthor .

Paranormal M/M Erotic Romance

Daniel Van Doren was once a renowned writer, until he was blinded in the car accident that killed his lover. Now, all he sees are ghosts in need of help. They follow him everywhere, and the only way to be rid of his ethereal visitors is to help them resolve their unfinished business here on earth so their spirits can find peace.

Ghostwriter Logan Riley is assigned to pen Daniel’s biography. He plans to reveal him as a fraud, but when they meet he’s struck by Danny’s quiet sincerity–and a growing attraction. Which makes sticking close to Danny to find out the truth more than a little distracting.

When they are attacked by a violent poltergeist Logan begins to believe Danny’s not just telling the truth, he’s in grave danger. A spirit has learned how to harness the energy of the living to break through the barrier between worlds to harm Danny. And Logan may be the one to blame…

Excerpt:

Danny loitered by the door, listening for the sound of a car pulling up the drive. His heart thumped, each beat measuring the passing of time. He’d been standing there for at least ten minutes, though he hadn’t bothered to check his watch. Maybe Logan wouldn’t show up. Maybe after having a night to think about it, he decided Danny had been right—he wasn’t in the least bit interesting, and spending the next few months following a blind man around would be preferable only to watching paint dry. Maybe—

But no. There it was, the sound of a motor revving, then slowing as it pulled into his driveway. It sounded different than the police cruisers Nick normally sent for him. Different also than Nick’s beat up truck, which sputtered and coughed like a tractor.

Danny waited until Logan rang the bell, then lingered a little while longer after that before unlatching the bolt. Throwing the front door open the moment the chime pealed would only make him look desperate.

And he wasn’t desperate. Lonely, maybe. Eager for another whiff of that mouthwatering cologne, definitely. But not desperate.

“Ready?”

A swift shot of longing chased away the uncertainty Danny had been feeling all morning. He grabbed his cane and stepped outside, letting the door close behind him.

The female ghost from the Java Café was back, too, and she didn’t look anywhere near as calm this morning as she had last night. In fact, she seemed downright restless, pacing across the field of darkness, scowling at the geriatric boxer when he got in her way and flicking dart-filled glares at Danny. The ball of light she held had shrunk to the size of a marble. Was that why she was so upset?

Unable to help her even if he wanted to, Danny turned away and faced more or less in the direction he thought Logan would be standing. “I wasn’t sure you’d show.”

“Did I give you a reason to doubt me?”

Danny shrugged. He trailed his fingertips across the lock, then fumbled with the key, unable to slide it home as quickly as he’d have liked.

Logan’s fingers wrapped around his, sending a shiver down his spine. “Here, let me help.”

He opened his mouth to protest, then closed it again when he realized Logan had no intention of taking his keys. Instead, he guided Danny’s fingers, positioning the key before pressing their hands forward. Logan’s back pressed against Danny’s, pinning him to the doorframe. The unmistakable feel of Logan’s erection against the curve of his hip made it hard to breathe.

The key slipped inside, and Danny nearly moaned. Logan turned their fingers until the lock clicked into place, then he drew back, leaving Danny shaken and disoriented.

“Take my arm. I’ll guide you to the car.”

Who Likes a Skinny Santa?

Steve Adams’s heart hasn’t been in the Christmas spirit ever since doctors put a stent in it and ordered him to clean up his act. No longer filling out his Santa suit or allowed to make merry, he’s forgoing the holidays this year and heading to Vegas to indulge in the few vices left to him: gambling and anonymous sex.

His road trip takes a detour when he encounters Chandler Tracey, who’s just inherited guardianship of his five-year-old niece. Overwhelmed, Chandler’s on his way to deliver Poppy to his parents. But fate has other plans and, after car trouble, Chandler and Poppy accept a ride home with Steve. Though the heat between the two men is obvious, they put it on simmer while they band together to make Poppy’s Christmas as perfect as possible.

Steve soon comes to believe that while Chandler is the right person to look after Poppy, someone needs to look after Chandler. Fortunately, Steve knows just the man for the job.

Excerpt:

Rudolph, the red-nosed ’69 Super Bee Six Pack ate up the tarmac after Barstow. If Steve hadn’t been driving like a bat out of hell, he might have enjoyed it more. He missed lazing around when the weather cooled down in the winter, when the sporadic yet drenching California rain made it harder to get jobs. When the wind blew from the north and the light slanted in through his kitchen window at its lowest angle, it was time to drag out the furry suit and play Santa.

Something in the crisp air gave him the holiday urge—a combination of energy, enthusiasm and lack of self-control peculiar to the men of his family. His father and brothers already had the light wars going. Even his sister, who could usually be counted on to keep a level head all the way through Valentine’s Day, had baked so much that delicious smells emanated from her house and surrounded it like scented magic.

It was a lousy time to be feeling sorry for himself but he was, damn it.

He missed smoking.

It wasn’t as if he ever smoked in his little red honey car, but he missed having the pack in his pocket, missed the sure and certain knowledge that it was there, waiting for him to hit the rest stop before Zzyzx and Baker. He still held his Zippo in his right hand and drove with his left while he flipped the lighter’s lid open and closed, rhythmically, to the music on the car’s scratchy original AM radio. The Mad Greek would be another big hurdle. Usually he chowed down on a gyro or two, fat with greasy mystery meat and dripping with that creamy white sauce he couldn’t pronounce.

Not happening anymore, ’cause he was newly trim, down to a lean 190 pounds on his six-foot-four-inch frame. He was now defined by good habits and clean living and muscles he hadn’t known were there before they put the stent—and the fear of God—into his heart the previous January.

So this year, Monrovia’s best-loved Santa was heading out of town.

Vegas, baby.

’Cause if anything in the world could soothe a man who’d lost his holiday cheer, it was the garish excesses of the one place on Earth that could afford to blow a billion bucks on a seasonal display that sucked the joy right out of the season itself.

Merry. Fucking. Christmas.

Cha-ching.

Vegas wasn’t the worst place for a dysfunctional man to go for the holidays. He could watch a couple of the shows and wallow in the absurdity of being an out-of-character Santa at Christmastime. And if he was in Vegas he wouldn’t have to think about all the people he was letting down this year.

Especially, he wouldn’t have to think about them.

Hell, he might be able to find some company for an evening or two. A like-minded holiday escapee maybe. A man who didn’t mind a slightly scrawny bear. Or possibly he’d even score himself a fuzzy little bear cub with a glint in his eye for the weekend. Someone who hadn’t had his twinkle surgically removed by a cardiologist.

That could rev up Rudolph’s specially rebuilt six-pack engine.
