The Eyes of Love Tour Stop/Win goodies

VBT The Eyes of Love Book Cover Banner copyThe hardest part about writing is…

The most difficult part of writing has to be focus. Motivation – that is to say the desire to get our butt into gear and actually write – is the element that fuels our life as a writer. Today’s world doesn’t make things any easier. We are faced with so many potential distractions like Facebook, emails, even our cell phones. The problem is that once we finally get moving and start writing, there are so many things that can distract us. The result is we have to repeat the process of starting again. So staying focused is the hardest aspect of writing. Here are some tips to help maintain your focus:

Learn to Act instead of React: Perhaps the most overlooked distractions are the hundreds of things we react to through the course of a day. Phone calls, texts, and emails are just three examples. Start paying attention and you’ll find yourself reacting to things that will probably surprise you.

The key is to retake control of your life by transforming those reactions into actions. For writers, the best practice is to schedule writing time. During this scheduled time, turn off the phone. Close your email and stay off the internet. Just write. You can schedule breaks ahead of time to check your phone. If you start doing this one simple thing, then you are turning a reaction into an action.

Eliminate Distractions: Distractions will rip away one’s focus. If you don’t want this to happen, then you will need to try your best to eliminate distractions in advance. Writers do this through scheduling their time effectively.

Sometimes you can do everything in your power to eliminate distractions and still have issues. That’s why maintaining your focus is the most difficult aspect of writing. One tiny distraction can cost us hours of progress.

After a tragic loss five years ago, Sally Overby becomes an Attorney in Atlanta. She convinces herself that all she’ll ever need again is her young son, David, and her life as an attorney. Until one day, Colin Dean barges back into her life and promptly blows her safe world apart, driving her crazy as only a guy she’d had a “school girl crush” on can.

Sally is wary to love deeply. Only, with every loving look Colin gives her plus every sweet kiss, as the attraction between them sparks, she can’t help but wonder if she’s met the one she should be with. And although Colin didn’t realize his life was going to change so quickly, amazingly, he isn’t the least bit interested in fighting that change. Instead, he’s gearing up for a different fight altogether. The one for Sally’s heart.

Will Colin be able to convince her that’s it safe to love him… and that forever isn’t really out of reach?

The Eyes of Love is a novella… so you can enjoy it in just one day!

Teaser Excerpt:

A hush fell over the room for a moment as Stephanie appeared with Jazz trailing behind her. She was wearing a skin tight black dress with stiletto heels which was typical Stephanie fashion. She wanted nothing more than to be the center of attention like she always had been.

Without missing a beat, Stephanie walked straight over to Colin. Sally was shocked.

“Hello, Colin…” she purred as she ignored Sally completely. “You look sexy tonight, as always.” She smiled seductively as Colin looked away. “Who’s your friend?”

“None of your business, Steph. Leave me alone.”

“Oohhh…. Did I touch a nerve, sweetie?” she asked as she reached out to touch his chest.

“Don’t touch me, Stephanie. I’m warning you. Why don’t you go back to Jazz?”

“Oh. Jazz. Boring…” she sang. “We’re not together anymore, just so you know…” she whispered in a husky voice. Colin held onto Sally’s hand for dear life. She had to do something.

“Stephanie, don’t you remember me?” she asked grinning from ear to ear as she slid into Colin’s side. He put his arm around her and stared down in shock at what she was about to say.

“I don’t know you,” Stephanie said looking her up and down.

“Wow. Age is really doing a number on your brain,” Sally said.

“Who are you?” Stephanie snapped. Jazz stood a few feet back obviously trying to hear the conversation.

“I’m your worst nightmare,” Sally growled as she came almost nose to nose with Stephanie, her attorney public speaking skills getting ready to display themselves. She pulled the name tag from her purse without breaking eye contact and held it up. “You see, I’m the nerd that you and your cronies bullied through high school.”

About the Author:

Angelina Rose has wanted to write ever since she could hold a pencil. The first daughter of immigrant parents, Angelina had her head buried in books, lost in a world of heroes, heroines and exotic places.

It was a shocking experience that jump-started Angelina’s author career.

“I awoke in the ICU… I had been unconscious for several days,” Angelina says.

In 2010, Angelina had a long stint in hospital following her involvement in a motor vehicle accident: the longest time off work (as a Registered Nurse), she’d ever had in her life!

It was then she took up pen and paper and started to write again, just as she had done when she was a child. She wrote four short fiction stories for young adults, entered them in several competitions, and managed to win three first prizes!

After happily dipping her toes into writing those short fiction stories for young adults, Angelina has now authored four books in a new “Mill Creek Crossing Romance” series… contemporary romance intended for adults.

The “Starting Over Series” is another contemporary romance series she wrote about a subject she knows well… nurses and their love life. At a recent reunion of her graduating class, she could not help but notice how the same girls would group together and laugh, chat, and even shed some tears over their lives since graduating. Many of the girls had divorced… so Angelina thought “what if a group of the nurses came up with a plan to meet in two years and have a new love story to share?” Then the first story in the series was born.

There is always a story running around in her head. A man with thick dark hair, gray-blue eyes, with an engaging smile and a quick wit… or a girl crying over a broken relationship. She finds herself talking to these characters during her day: when she’s doing dishes, or bathing babies at the hospital. These characters crop up on days at the beach or on walks through the neighborhood. This is how the stories start to grow.

Angelina’s mother was an author, so Angelina grew up with a love of words and stories. If she wasn’t writing a short story about something that took her fancy, her head was buried in books… reading, reading, reading, as her brother constantly told her…

When she’s not spending time with her goodlooking man, or quality time with her laptop, she’s working at the hospital, hanging out with her family and friends, or walking her two dogs around the neighborhood. Angelina spends as much time as she can traveling, then coming home and including some of those adventures in her stories.

Angelina really loves to hear from her readers and she invites you to connect with her on Facebook as she interacts daily with her readers there!

I apologize for the lateness of this post..I had it in draft mode when my internet went out just as I was going to post it yesterday. Needless to say Time Warner didn’t get it back online until the evening when I was not at home and had no internet access where we were. *sighs* So please forgive me….

Dixie Sinclair has watched her cousins all fall in love and now she wants the same. Dared to go to the annual Masquerade ball, Dixie finds the one thing she desires: love…one problem…can she trust that it will last after that one night?

Michael Barnes is a rare white were-tiger who was thrown out of his pride long ago for a trumped up crime, Michael roams the world searching for the one place to call home. Finding that peace in Devon Falls, he finds the one woman who stirs him like no other. Can he convince Dixie that she can trust in him forever?

Teaser Excerpt:

Once outdoors, Dixie did up her jacket and watched as the moon glowed brightly. She was annoyed at how Damien thought she needed a babysitter walking two blocks home. Men were idiots who thought women needed to be protected, she thought as she enjoyed the quiet night and waited for Michael, the man who stirred her senses into over boiling. Down girl, you are not going to be jumping the man’s bones so get a grip. You have B.O.B at home to help with that, she thought when he fell into step next to her. She couldn’t keep her eyes off him. He was a walking, talking sex bomb, and she was itching to touch every inch of him.

Dixie tried to shake the sense of something changing inside her even as he finally turned towards her. The way his eyes settled on her had her panties damp and her blood beginning to simmer. It was like he was looking past the outer coverings into her soul—or he was just stripping her naked? That wouldn’t be so bad, actually. Smirking to herself, she started walking, trying to keep her hands inside her coat or she was going to do something very dangerous…like kiss the man to death.

Still, Dixie didn’t know what to do except try to make the best of it. It was only two blocks.

Surely she had enough will power to last that long. Yeah, right. She knew she was doomed as the scent of him, all male and spicy, teased her senses and had her swallowing hard. Oh god, I’m in deep trouble, she thought as they reached Main Street.

 Teaser Excerpt:

But as Verity circled the exhibit, she began to think her father was right after all.  Was it not sad to see these dignified animals consigned to collect dust, in the name of entertainment?  She turned to Miss Mowlam to make this remark, only to find her companion shifting from foot to foot and clutching her belly.

“Miss Mowlam? Are you unwell?”

Her chaperone frowned.  “Excuse me, Miss Verrinder, but I must find a place of easement and quickly.”

“Shall I come with you?”

Such was Miss Mowlam’s haste that she answered with a flap of the hand and was gone.  Verity was torn; it was irregular to be without a chaperone, but Miss Mowlam would not welcome a witness to her discomfort.  As her ample derriere had already disappeared back the way they came, it seemed to stay put was the best option, so that Miss Mowlam could find her again.

The elephant’s sad eye made her uncomfortable, so Verity investigated the cabinets.  But as she turned, a figure caught her eye.  Even with his back turned and leaning forward to inspect an exhibit, there was no mistaking the powerful shoulders and graceful elegance of Lord Ryevale.  The hall suddenly shrank in size and her heart catapulted against her ribs.  She swallowed hard.  What if he saw her, what should she do? Without a chaperone she felt exposed. This panic felt most peculiar; a jumble of excitement and caution.

Verity drifted to one of the cabinets to better study him covertly.  No one else filled a jacket quite so well as Lord Ryevale.  A curl of dark hair contrasted with his white stock, and the detail thrilled her.  Even the arrogant tilt of his head befuddled her thoughts—such a handsome profile; the jut of his chin, the curve of his lips and the hollowed cheeks that evoked an insistent beat in her chest.

To her horror, Ryevale glanced towards her, then turned away.  Her fingers curled into her palms in an agony of embarrassment.  Had he seen her looking? Clumsily, she feigned interest in a stuffed puffin.  She held her breath, but when no one approached she let it out again.  She frowned.  Instinctively, she knew he was ignoring her.  After a minute, the seconds measured by her racing pulse, she permitted herself another glance.

He had moved onto the next cabinet.

Verity froze.  Her skin still sang from where his eyes had grazed it; beyond a doubt he had seen her, which meant he had deliberately cut her.  How dare he! This man who seduced a married woman in her father’s library refused to acknowledge a respectable lady!  If anyone was to cut the other it would be her.

Without pausing to consider the wisdom of her actions, Verity stalked across the hall and tapped him on the shoulder.

“Lord Ryevale, why did you pretend not to see me?”

With suave nonchalance, Ryevale bowed.  “Ah, Miss Verrinder, delightful as ever.”

“Why did you ignore me?”

“I did no such thing.”

“I don’t believe you.”

One corner of his mouth twitched into a teasing smile.  “Perhaps I was thinking of your reputation.  After all, being seen in the company of a rogue is not the done thing.”

Of course he was right, which only irritated Verity more because it hadn’t occurred to her.  Stubbornly, she pressed on.  “Miss Mowlam is escorting me…and will return any second.”

“Glad to hear it.”  He pursed his mouth, which made Verity unexpectedly hot between the breasts.  “Why did she leave you alone?”  Was it her imagination or did he seem concerned?

“A call of nature.”

“Ah.  And you didn’t think to go with her?”

Verity spluttered.  “I am an adult.  I can take care of myself.”

“I did not imply differently—merely that you never know which unsavory character you may bump into.”  He raised an ironical brow.

“Touché.  So what are you doing here?”

Ryevale hesitated.  “Have you considered that I might have an assignation with a young lady?”

His eyes were such a rich deep brown—darker than cocoa and deeper than sherry—that made her quiver inside, and at that moment she hated him very much indeed.

“Miss Verrinder, if you recall, you approached me.”

“Humph.”  Infuriating man, now he implied she couldn’t keep away.

“But now you have sought me out, and it seems my friend has forsaken me, perhaps we could call a truce and examine the exhibits together.”

“That’s not a good idea.”  A voice nagged in her head, saying that Ryevale’s company was not appropriate, especially as he addled her judgment so.

“Come now, I am a family friend, and your father would not be happy if I left you without an escort.  I promise to go when your chaperone returns.”

It seemed churlish to refuse.  “Very well.”

“Besides, I enjoy your company.”

Remembering how she despised women who were easily flattered, Verity fought off the urge to blush.

“You are allowed to enjoy yourself, Miss Verrinder.  I have a theory that you don’t get much opportunity for smiling.”

What else had he guessed?  This man was dangerous.  “Let’s walk.”  Verity said, “People are looking.”

“Are you surprised?” his velvet tone teased.  “I have something of a reputation, don’t you know?”

Introducing Lisa M. Owens

Hi and welcome to my blog, Lisa M. Owens. Please make yourself at home and grab a drink from my hunky cabana boys, Zeke and Jake.  Well, hello there, boys. Tell me, where did you find the loincloths? Anymore, those are getting hard to find! Come here and let me take those muscled bodies for a test drive!

To get us started can you tell us a little about what you are working on or have coming out? If Only is my first published novel and it is about a woman who made the worst mistake of her life. She walked out on her fiancé and into the arms of a charming and handsome stranger. Five years later, she is divorced and starts thinking about the one she let get away. And she wonders what would have happened if she would have married him instead.

How would you describe yourself using only five words? Stubbornly stubborn, romantic, friendly, saucy

Do you have any guilty pleasures? Chocolate, an addiction yet it always manages to go straight to my hips. My name is Lisa and I am a chocoholic. Anything with a sinful fragrance: scented candles, bubble bath, body lotion. My favorite indulgence is body lotion and shower gel with the same fragrance from Victoria’s Secret. It’s called Love Spell and the aroma is to die for!!

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Not sure if I would want to live there, but one thing I have always wanted to do was to be on a working ranch and watch cowboys in action. Be a witness to the day-to-day activities and write a series about them. Dairy farms, cattle ranchers, horse trainers, rodeo riders, etc.

Is music a factor for you while you are writing? Do certain songs put you in the right frame of mind to write certain stories? Sometimes I seem to write better with music and other days, I seem to write better without. It just depends on the day and how the ideas are flowing. For difficult scenes, like the confrontational scenes in my book, listening to Pink, Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson helped me to get in that angry frame of mind. For more romantic scenes, I find myself listening to Celine Dion, Mariah Carey. More romantic songs to help me get into the mood.

What is the strangest source of writing inspiration you’ve ever had? I have had story ideas come to me in dreams. For me personally, that was pretty odd.

Are your characters able to love or do they need to be taught? In If Only, they were already able to love since they had loved each other before. In a book that I am currently writing, my hero has been wounded by a woman that he cared deeply about and so it takes more of an effort for him to open up his heart to somebody new.

I think it depends on the book and the characters. Like people, every character is different.

What can readers expect next from you?

I am currently working on the second book in this series, titled What If. It is about a woman who married for love instead of for money. Fourteen years later, she is dealing with an unplanned pregnancy, a husband who can’t keep a job and she is drowning in debt. When she wonders what would have happened if she would have married for money instead, she quickly discovers that having money isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be. Now she has to find her way home before her husband and daughter are lost to her forever.

I am also working on a story about a wounded Marine who returns home from Afghanistan to discover that his wife has abandoned him when he needed her the most. He finds comfort in the arms of another woman, an artist with abandonment issues of her own. But can two wounded souls break through the battered barriers of each other’s hearts?

What would you do if you had the opportunity to go back and relive your greatest mistake?

Five years ago, Bree Sexton walked out on her fiancé and into the arms of a charming and handsome stranger. She has regretted her decision ever since. Instead of a fairy-tale marriage, her “prince” shattered her dreams and her spirit with physical violence and emotional cruelty she barely escaped.

She then mysteriously wakes up in bed with the fiancé she loved and left, the life she’d dreamed of now a reality, until her cruel ex-husband reappears to destroy her new life. But what is real, and what is make-believe? Is she really getting the chance she has always dreamed of? And when it is all said and done, will she finally end up with the man she has always regretted leaving? Or will she wake up to discover herself alone?

Teaser Excerpt:

She pushed her hands against Scott’s muscular chest, knocking him backward onto the bed. He just lay there for a minute in stunned silence before grinning wickedly. She gave her husband a sly wink as she grabbed the hem of his navy polo shirt and pulled it over his head. Grasping it by the collar, she twirled it above her head before tossing it onto the carpet.

He reached for her, but she quickly swatted his hands away.

“Not yet, big boy,” she murmured with feminine satisfaction. She grasped the hem of her chemise and removed it in one swift motion. Using her discarded chemise as a rope, she tied her husband’s hands and then brought them up above his head, leaving him completely helpless against her.

Bree pressed her body against his, her breasts heaving against his massive chest. She grabbed him by the shoulders, moving her body up and down in a fluid motion, causing her nipples to rub provocatively against his broad frame. Scott writhed in agony underneath her. He groaned, his body responding to her each and every touch. He tried to reach for her, but with his hands bound, his attempts were in vain.

She chuckled as her fingers danced across his chest, his body tightening at her touch. Her fingertips grazed one dark nipple, her mouth coming down to encircle the tight bud with her tongue, and then continuing on to the other. Then she began to suckle greedily as her hands went farther south, reaching for the fly of his stone-washed blue jeans.

Bree’s fingertips brushed against the coarse fabric, and she grinned with pleasure as he swelled beneath her hand. She unsnapped his jeans and then reached for his zipper.

Her right hand traveled up his chiseled chest. She caressed his rippled muscles, her fingertips investigating each and every inch of his exquisite masculine body. Then her left hand wandered inside his jeans, exploring the rigid core of his masculinity. Her fingers stroked the length of his shaft, reveling in the size and strength.

Scott groaned as his body shifted beneath Bree. “Woman, do you know what you’re doing?” he questioned, his voice rough.

Bree gazed up at him innocently, her emerald green eyes wide with mischief. “I’m playing with my new toy,” she murmured with a devilish grin. She bit on her lower lip as she looked over at her husband. “Although, I would probably have more fun if I had somebody to play with me.” She pouted.

Her husband grinned up at her as he held out his tied hands for her inspection. He sighed. “And I can’t play with you because my hands are tied. Literally,” he stated with a rueful look on his face.

 About the Author

The writing bug bit Lisa M. Owens at an early age; she was writing short stories and poetry by the age of seven. At the age of eight, she entered a writing contest at her elementary school. About fifty books were written, but Lisa was one of the thirteen writers chosen who received a certificate and the chance to meet Oklahoma writer Sandy Miller.

A former victim of domestic violence herself, Lisa worked at the courthouse for over seven years. Almost three of those years she worked on the Marriage License/Protective Order desk. She helped women file protective orders and worked closely with the staff and counselors at DVIS.

Frustrated with books that merely gloss over the subject of domestic violence, Lisa wanted to write a book that told the entire story. Her dream is for her words to help give someone the courage to leave an abusive relationship.

She resides in Oklahoma and has two children. This is her first published novel, and she is currently working on the next novel of her If Only series.

Lisa enjoys hearing from her readers and can be reached at P.O. Box 9643, Tulsa, OK 74157-0643, or by e-mail, She can also be contacted on her website,
