Hi and welcome to my blog, Katalina Leon and Amber Skyze. Please make yourself at home and grab a drink from my hunky cabana boys, Zeke and Jake. So tell us a little about yourself.
(Katalina asks gorgeous Zeke to bring her a Napoleon Cognac and he brings it in a beautiful cut crystal shifter, kneels and offers himself as a table. Thank you Zeke.
Amber asks for…Corona no lime please.)
So tell us a little about your latest book. What inspired this masterpiece?
Katalina: Madness inspired this book. I wanted to work with Amber because I love her. Amber came up with a great idea that I begged to be part of, and we started brainstorming. An idea for a book series quickly grew and we latched onto NANO National Novel Writing Month as a great time to start. The idea was to inspire each other and perhaps help the other fill in the blanks in our story lines.
Amber: Definite madness. Kat thought it would be inspiring while I was getting reacquainted with motherhood. 😉 A small little project turned into a “huge” series.
If you had any super powers, what would they be and why?
Katalina: I would love to have the power to make people feel great about themselves in a genuine way, so their confidence would just soar. Can you imagine what a few more empowered people could accomplish?
Amber: Can’t really beat Kat’s, but I’d like to be invisible and be able to transport back in time.
What genre haven’t you tried yet but want to in the future?
Katalina: I love Sci-fi, I will definitely be heading there someday soon.
Amber: True Crime..I see that in my future.
What is one thing readers might be surprised to know about you?
Katalina: I only learned to type several years ago. Before that I was writing with a fountain pen.
Amber: Hmmm, not sure.
If we asked your muse to describe you in three words, what do you think they might say?
Katalina: Disciplined, Willing and Loyal. I love my Muse and I want him to stay close.
Amber: Curious, Loyal and Determined.
What authors can be found in your library of books?
Katalina: Charlotte Bronte, Robert Lewis Stevenson, Jules Vern, Ray Bradbury, lots of history books and too many wonderful erotic-romance authors to name.
Amber: Too many.
Have any guilty pleasures you want to share with us?
Katalina: In my opinion a three day weekend with my husband and a pair of leather wrist cuffs is a dreamy combo.
Amber: LOL Kat. I’d like the three day weekend and I prefer fluffy wrist cuffs.
Is there anything you’re currently working on that you can give us a taste of?
Katalina: “The Strix” has some decidedly sharp flavors. The sexual content is handled in a sensual style but the situations are raw. They include capture by Romans, sexual slavery and blood sport in the arena. It’s not for the faint of heart. This story has a lot of tension and physical peril. The reader will get a big journey that spans a woman’s two lifetimes. One as a vengeful Celtic witch and later as the would-be victim of a man she betrayed in the past. The Strix has gorgeous gladiators from Pompeii unwillingly turned into blood-drinking immoral “Slayers”. There’s also a very tender love story and personal redemption lurking beneath centuries of betrayal. Really, what more do you want?
What is your favorite way to relax after a hard day working and writing?
Amber: The pool or reruns of The Big Bang Theory.
What is one historical figure you would love to chat with and why?
Katalina: I’m fascinated with the Roman historian Tacitus. Before I even knew who he was, he kept throwing himself in my line of sight. If we do live many lives, undoubtably he’s someone important to me.
Amber: Henry VIII. I’d love to know why he felt compelled to kill off his wives and not just ship them off somewhere.
Would you care to mention any upcoming or WIP projects that readers can look forward from you in the future?
Katalina: Yes! The Bag of Tricks book series continues with Jael’s story. This one was Amber’s idea. Jael’s gets a steamy hot menage adventure on Mount Kilimanjaro with two gorgeous dragon shifters who want to bring her onto their lives as a mate.
Out of all your books, do you have a favorite one? If not, then which one is closest to your heart?
Katalina: My current favorite is “The Strix”, it represents a new direction for me. This is my first book with Loose Id.
Thanks for coming. Is there anything else you want to add?
Katalina: Yes, please keep your eyes open for more books from The Bag Of Tricks series from Loose Id. We have “wish stone” adventures planned for Becca and Devon too.
Bag of Tricks story, Book 1
A cursed amber amulet unearthed in Pompeii flings Arcona into a past life of witchcraft, bloodshed, revenge, and sexual slavery to the cruel Master of a gladiatorial school. This violent parallel world is populated with “Slayers,” blood-drinking immortals devoted to the gods of war and mayhem.
As a Strix, or malignant witch, Arcona once used sex and blood rituals to create a race of immortal warriors to unleash on Rome. Now it’s time to pay.
The gladiator Tyr was one desperately lonely lover she betrayed. Against his will, she turned him into Upir Likhyi, a foul vampire. For two millennia he’s lived a grim existence as a Slayer, in constant sexual arousal yet denied release; now, he’s pissed off and wants revenge. He kidnaps Arcona, planning to drink her dry and break the curse.
Along the way Arcona and Tyr relive their sexual slavery at the hands of Rome and blood sport in the arena, but the real magic is they forgive and fall in love.
Too bad another Slayer wants them dead.
Publisher’s Note: This book contains explicit sexual situations, graphic language, and material that some readers may find objectionable: anal play/intercourse, dubious consent, female/female sexual practices.
She’d pulled a piece of red amber and that was when the odd feelings began. Not long after, everyone became silent and unsocial. Her group of friends soon said good-bye to each other and went their separate ways as if they were leaves scattered by the wind.
She’d hugged her friends in farewell and left the shop. She’d intended to return to her hotel but found herself strolling aimlessly along the oceanfront instead.
Arcona gazed at her palm. The amber glowed like flame-warmed cognac with the faintest hint of scarlet in the low evening light. The nickel-sized piece of amber was sensual to touch and behold yet carried the weight of dread about it.
It’s just harmless tree resin. That was all it was, very ancient, electrically charged tree resin that carried the full genetic history of its past frozen inside.
A tense breath whistled past her lips. Who was she kidding? This tiny piece of amber was really deviling her and the reason felt elusive, like a dream that made a huge impact and then faded beyond recall.
Her dear friend Jael and the witches at the Wiccan shop had treated the wish bag as a serious matter, and she’d realized she should respect Witch Casey’s simple request to make the stone sacred with a prayer, a promise, and a wish before tossing it away, and she couldn’t wait to do exactly that.
She knew what she should wish for in an instant.
Her lips curled. How about a hot, sexy bad boy to break the drought? That would be perfect. She wanted someone handsome and tough who needed a good, hard fuck as much as she did. A real man and a sweaty, honest, get-lost-in-the-act fuck was what she was desperate for.
She was single again, lonely and living like a nun. She knew she should be enjoying her freedom, but she seldom met new people outside her tiny circle of boring coworkers. The few men she dated in the university’s research department were less than thrilling. As a research historian she often found her thoughts wandering toward some idealized, fearless blood-and-brawn hero from the distant past.
She dreamed of a man who would treat a woman like a prize and every sexual act like his last. That was the sort of man she desired, but the modern world didn’t seem to be producing many of those types anymore. At least none who were single and interested in quiet academic women with a few extra pounds on their hips.
She gazed toward a darkening sky and turbulent harbor. She wondered if she should make a wish and toss the amber into the ocean, but thought better of it. The piece of amber almost clung to her palm as if it were loath to be parted from her.
