Talking with Tony-Paul de Vissage/CONTEST

Having two books come out within two days of each other is sort of like having Christmas one day and your birthday the next. I have had that pleasure, having been born two days after Christmas, and two weekends ago, I also experienced the other when my horror novel The Night Man Cometh was released from Class Act Books, and within a day, Sweet Sips of Blood, from the UK publisher Vamptasy, followed.

These two books are in complete opposition to each other. The Night Man Cometh is a traditional vampire story. Damian la Croix became a vampire by choice, and he never regrets it for a moment. His story begins in the year 1249, when, to escape the Black Death, he chooses to become an Undead. Like the vampires of old, Damian is unrepentant and irreverent; he revels in his immortality, lording it over the poor, weak humans who are so frail they barely last out their fourscore and one. It would’ve been easy to make my main character into a villain, but I chose to make him sympathetic in spite of his blatant superiority, for Damian has a fatal flaw. He’s sworn never to force anyone to follow him through the centuries; the woman he loves has to come willingly, and perhaps because of that, he’s been alone for three thousand years now. They swear they love him, but…at the last moment, every one changes her mind and chooses mortal death over immortality. Still, Damon continues his search. There’s someone waiting for him, he’s certain…but it takes an asteroid striking the Earth and the near-devastation of humankind before she appears…and when he finds her, it’s both a shock and a delight.

The cover for The Night Man Cometh was suggested by myself and created by artist Jinger Heaston, a very talented young lady. Buy Link: http://www.classactbooks.com/The-Night-Man-Cometh-by-Tony-Paul-de-Vissage-PDF_p_302.html

Sweet Sips of Blood, on the other hand, is an anthology, ten tales showing mostly the lighter side of being a vampire, though there are one or two tales which are bittersweet, and a couple downright chilling… A vampire with a toothache seeks out a most unusual dentist… A vampire sees past the wrinkles and white hair to court a woman he loved 30 years ago… After the apolocalypse of 2012, the surviving vampires and mortals band together to fight a common enemy… A lonely ferryman takes a foreboding stranger across a river, and earns himself a gratitude later coming in handy…

“The Best Dentist in Orange County”, “Sometimes, Love Returns”, “Blood Will Freeze”, and “Shadow’s Crossing”… Each story is a sweet sip of a vampire’s secret soul.

Sweet Sips of Blood has a sexy cover, featuring the publisher herself as the vampire’s victim. Buy Link: http://www.vamptasypublishing.co.uk/#/new-reads/4549210091

To celebrate the release of these two books, I’m giving away a free download from Vamptasy Publishing. Just answer this question (and include your email addy): What year did Damian LaCroix become a vampire?

Dusting Off the Old by Lynn Crain

Dusting Off The Old

Now, I have been writing for a long, long time. My idea file is so huge I will never see the end of it. There isn’t enough time to write it all. But I’m going to give it a good shot…LOL!

Still, I wondered if I could get some of my older works dusted off and published. Now this was a big undertaking since a lot of what I had previously wrote was science fiction and I wasn’t sure if I would find a place for them at all.

The first up, Fluke was a science fiction short story in which the heroine couldn’t remember some vital information. It came complete with a perky computer and a very nasty bad guy. My publisher asked me if I could put in some romance, a hero and spice it up. I decided it was worth a try and started work the very next day.

I added a sexy hero and gave the woman a mission that didn’t end when the story was over just in case. Then I waited to see what would happen. Much to my surprise, this story was well received making me think about a sequel. Nothing came to me at the time, so I put it away again.

Fast forward until earlier that year when my publisher asked me if I might have something which would fit their new line of books which included straight science fiction, fantasy, non-fiction and more. Again, I went to my trusty folder full of older works and pulled out yet another short story, Subtle Invasion, this time about an alien abduction. This time I didn’t have to do so much revision but it did need a good spit and polish.

Once it was all completed, I sent it off to my editor and waited for the rejection because the piece was strange to say the least. I was amazed when the editor sent me the galley because it was going to press the very first month the imprint was open.

So now, I was two for two! And boy was I happy! This was a good sign, a very good sign. And while I have not, to date, sold any more of my older works, my seventeenth book, More Than Robotics, is a sequel to Fluke. While I had not thought to write another series, the idea for this one struck me with a ferocity I couldn’t ignore. So the science fiction world was expanded and my third series was born. I have even been asked if there are going to be any more in the Subtle Invasion series. What? I didn’t know it was a series but my publisher thinks it might be one. We’ll see.

The motto of this portion of my tale, never, ever throw the old stuff away. You may be able to revise it into something saleable. Now, this isn’t the norm and to be honest if I hadn’t had those already on my hard drive, I would have been out of luck. I have saved every piece I’ve ever written. When it was on paper, I went through one day and start putting it into computer files just in case. I know this would never had happened if all I possessed were hardcopies. Thank goodness for the computer age!

Welcome Kenzie Michaels/Molly Daniels

Hi and welcome to my blog, Kenzie Michaels. Please make yourself at home and grab a drink from my hunky cabana boys, Zeke and Jake. So tell us a little about yourself.

Hi Raine, thanks for having me today. (Eyes cabana boys and takes the offered Pina Colada Margarita) I’m wife, mom, Aunt Grandma to the neighborhood kids, and addicted to my laptop every morning. I’ll read anything which catches my eye, and have been that way since learning to read in kindergarten. I started writing my own stories at age eleven and wrote my own ending to Star Wars at age fourteen. Completely screwed it up; I am not destined to write sci-fi!

Q: What genre do you write and for what publisher(s)

I write primarily Adult Contemporary Romance, although I have two paranormal storylines wanting to be written. I have four stories contracted with Freya’s Bower, one with XOXO Publishing, and now Secret Cravings Publishing.

Q: Tell us about your latest/upcoming release. What inspired it?

A brief addiction to the Food Network Channel, plus an impromptu discussion about past jobs held. I started reminiscing about my first waitress job, and one of the young girls I championed one summer. I decided to work one particular anecdote into the book I was writing, and everything came together.

Q: Who are some of your favorite characters from your books? The hardest to write? The easiest?

I’ve been lucky; several of my books have practically written themselves. Natalie and Brian from Class Reunion; Austin and Cara from Off The Clock; Steve and Angie and Brad and Emma from Wild At Heart; and Tammy and Kevin from Teacher’s Pet. The hardest one to write is the one I’m working on at the moment. I thought I had everything ‘fleshed out’ in my mind, but then my summer got hectic with family life and my characters went on vacation. I’m hoping they’ll return after the kids go back to school!

Q: What do you do when the muse decides to take a holiday or become really difficult? How do you try to coax them/she/it/he back to the drawing board?

Normally, I just relax and do other things while I’m waiting for inspiration to return. But it’s been roughly 18 months since the muse grabbed me and wouldn’t let go, so I’m looking forward to his return.

Q: Is there a genre you haven’t tried yet but plan to in the future?

As I said, I have two paranormal romances on the back burner, and hope to get to them soon. I have no idea if they will pan out to be any good, but it never hurts to challenge yourself creatively.

Q: If the world was to end tomorrow, what three things would be on your bucket list?

Trip to Italy and Greece
Swim with the dolphins
One last night of dancing with my best friend.

Q: You’re on a remote island with a handsome man/woman, a computer, and a “mysterious” source of electricity to power your computer. What do you do?

Hope the handsome man has survival skills! I want shelter, fire, good drinking water, and food. Then I settle down to write in peace, with him for inspiration.

Q: What comes first for you: Setting? Storyline? Characters?

Characters and storyline. I’ve got too many wips which stalled on the first chapter because I wasn’t sure where I wanted the story to go. So I try to have some sort of plot device in mind when I begin writing.

Q: If one of your books became a movie, which celebrity would you like to star as your main characters?

In Wild At Heart, I see Matthew McConaughey as Steve; Rachel McAddams as Angie; Amy Adams as Emma, and Gerard Butler as Brad.

Q: What do you have coming next? Anything you want to tell us?

I’m working on two separate projects at the moment. I’m editing Teacher’s Pet, which will hopefully be released this fall, and I’m also gearing up for the rerelease of my alter-ego’s Women’s Fiction series. The first one rereleases in October; the second in December; and the third is slated for publication in January.

Q: If you came with a warning label, what would it say?

“May contain adult language and content. Reader discretion is advised.” And to my friends…. “Contains inside jokes. Laughter is expected.”

Q: What else would you like readers to know about you or your work?

I’m open to suggestions from readers. I had no idea All She Ever Wanted would end up in a trilogy, until a reader asked for Brian’s story. And as I wrote it, the characters from another wip entered. Bam! Instant trilogy. And I’m a fan of series, so I’ll be happy to make any of my stand-alones into one!

Q: Where can we find you on the web?

All over the place.

Excerpt:
He was certainly no slouch in body gyrations. Courtney smiled as he matched her move for move, and somehow she instinctively knew what he would do next. She felt his hands skimming her hips, and she retaliated by placing hers on his biceps. She danced closer, moved his thigh between hers and locked eyes with him. She sensed the unspoken hint of future pleasure. At the end of the suggestive song, he twirled her sideways and dipped her, his left arm supporting her as his lips descended on hers. She no longer wanted to be in a public place with him.

“We make quite a team,” he murmured in her ear as he let her up. “Want to go somewhere quieter and talk?”

Her good sense vanished. She still tasted him on her lips and she wanted more. She nodded and clasped his hand as they made their way through the crowd and out of the bar.

Once outside in the muted hallway of the hotel, Dustin swung her into his arms and pinned her against the wall next to the row of pay phones. His tongue invaded her warm mouth, gently stroking hers, and Courtney ached to be closer to him. His arms snuck under her shirt and up her damp back, deftly unhooked her bra and moved around to cup her generous breasts in each palm.

Courtney moaned into his mouth as he rolled her nipples between her fingers. His kiss sent longing straight to her crotch, and she knew the moisture soaking her panties had nothing to do with the heat of the nightclub.

Dustin’s mouth left hers and traveled to her ear. “Courtney,” he breathed as he lightly pinched her nipples. “I want you. Come with me?”

“Where?” Her mind was fuzzy with the spiraling sensations his fingers caused.

“My room.”

Thanks for having me today Raine!

A Little Behind the Scenes for Devon Falls

Well I finished final proof edits for Sticky Magic, my Devon Falls Series book 1. I wanted to sit and do a little behind the scenes thing for this series since it will be releasing from August to December 2011 at Secret Cravings Publishing.

I wrote Stick Magic years ago on a dare from an author friend, Skyler Sinclair. After a few drafts, I got the makings of this paranormal town that humans and otherworldly creatures live, work and fall in love with. I can say that the week I wrote this story, I had no idea it was going to morph into a full fledge series with almost ten books being planned. *shakes head*

What was originally to be two books turned into a full fledge town that drew me in time and again, with their wacky and wonderful characters, the many businesses they ran and the fun I got to play in when creating the next book. My aim was to introduce either the herione or hero of the next book in the series in the current story.I also centered it around holidays (Christmas, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Fourth of July, etc). I thought that made the series a bit unique in itself and I had fun creating the stories around the founding families.

The Stevens were master bakers from France with an affinity for magic; The Dracon Family were shape shifters; the Sinclair’s were master builders and were dream-walkers and the Craven Family were Master Musicians from Russia and were Elemental Mages.

The first three families descendants are in the first five books in some form and the final four will be about the four Craven siblings with one very special book to tie up everything. So basically readers have after these five books at least five more to come. *fingers crossed*

My muse is eager to get started on them but alas I need a break. I have been writing Devon Falls for close to five years now in one form or another. I need to break away, work on other WIP’s, see what other genres inspire me and then I can come back, refreshed and raring to go on the final books.

With Devon Falls, I hope you enjoy this introduction into a series that is near and dear to my heart. It has gotten to be like a family to me and the characters have all a piece of my heart. With the arrival of the new, expanded, rewritten Sticky Magic, it kicks off the releases of Devon Falls Series at my new publisher, Secret Cravings.

I hope you enjoy this new and in my opinion, improved story of a shy, lonely woman who finds her soul mate is not as human as she thinks. So please enjoy my first book in my very first series and fall in love with a town that has a little of everything-from shape shifters to mages to dream walkers. May your dreams come true just as they have for my residents of Devon Falls.

Welcome Darlene Fredette today

Hi and welcome to my blog, Darlene. Please make yourself at home and grab a drink from my hunky cabana boys, Zeke and Jake. So tell us a little about yourself.

It’s a pleasure to be here, Raine. I’ll have a Pina Colada. Thank you boys!

Q: What genre do you write and for what publisher(s)?
After receiving several rejections from publishers, years ago, I began to wonder what exactly was my writing style. The publishers told me they loved my writing and story, but it didn’t fit with their contemporary romance line. Then I discovered Chick Lit books and BAMB! a light went on. I now classify my writing as romance with Chick Lit flare! My debut novel, Keeping Secrets, is due for release with Secret Cravings Publishing in August.

Q: So tell us a little about Keeping Secrets. What inspired it?
My story inspirations come from many things, but mostly they just pop in my head…and usually while I’m cleaning the house. By the time my house is clean, I have a story completely mapped out in my head. It’s getting it to print that’s hard, lol!

Q: Who are some of your favorite characters from your books? The hardest to write? The easiest?
I really like Samantha, who is in Keeping Secrets. She’s strong, independent, and has a great sense of fashion. All my heroines are easy to write, because they tend to come alive in my head. It’s my heros who make things difficult…typical men! Lol!

Q: What do you do when the muse decides to take a holiday or become really difficult? How do you try to coax them/she/it/he back to the drawing board?
When my fingers and head won’t communicate with each other, there’s no convincing them. I step away…or clean the house…that always works, lol!

Q: Is there a genre you haven’t tried yet but plan to in the future?
I have a magical/fantasy story swimming in my head. I keep a journal of each story idea that comes to me, and add notes as the story unfolds. There’s a romantic element to the story, which all my stories have, but this one is definitely out of my comfort zone. I can’t wait to start it!

Q: If the world was to end tomorrow, what three things would be on your bucket list?
Good question! Number one, spend every waking moment with my family. Number two, fly. When I was younger, a family member owned a four-seater plane, and I was able to go for a short ride. I loved it and haven’t had the chance to be in the air since. And number three, goes with number two…I’d fly with my family to Australia.

Q: What comes first for you: Setting? Storyline? Characters?
Definitely the storyline, then the characters blend in. Once I have the characters acting out the story, the setting soon follows.

Q: If you were a comic book character, who would you be and what super powers would you have?
Speedy Gonzalas. That mouse can move! I’d like to have his speed so I could get all the things that have to be done in a day, finished in a matter of minutes.

Q: What do you have coming next? Anything you want to tell us?
I’m currently editing the very first story I wrote ten years ago. It’s titled Law Of Attraction. I also started a fun Christmas story, as well as several other stories that are sitting in my journal waiting to come to life.

Welcome Rachel Cron Today

Hi and welcome to my blog, Rachel. Please make yourself at home and grab a drink from my hunky cabana boys, Zeke and Jake. So tell us a little about yourself.
Thanks for having me, Raine! And thank you both, Zeke and Jake. Don’t be strangers.
Q: What genre do you write and for what publisher(s)?
A: I write Contemporary erotic romance, for now. I can never guarantee what my mind will conjure up next. I’m published through Siren-bookstrand.
Q: Tell us about your latest/upcoming release. What inspired it?
A: My latest release is ‘Punk Rox Warrior’. A few years ago I was going about my daily existance and out of nowhere I got a stalker. After a few months of chaos the situation was resolved, but I started having nightmares, losing weight, my hair started to fall out and I was afraid to go anywhere by myself. My husband suggested I write about it. The book started out as a journal and after I had run out of things to write, I didn’t feel any better. I sat in front of my computer at 2:30am and I was so angry because I didn’t feel any better. I thought to myself “If I create some great characters, a story line and some hot sex scenes…I could have a book!” So I did.
Q: How do you build characters and their personalities and looks?
A: I think about myself and the way I preceive the world and my closest girlfriends, their husbands, my own fantasies and experiences. I usually have a story line in my head before I write the characters and the story has a lot to do with how they will interact within the story. It also depends on how I’m feeling. As the story line evolves I have an understanding of how I want everyone to react, then I just think about what type of person would react like that and…Viola!
Q: Tell me about some of your heroes/heroines:
A: The heroes in my real life are people who are not afraid to be themselves. People who live everyday like it’s their last and aren’t afraid to take you down with them. People who don’t pause before pulling up their big girl panties and dealing with the crap that life hands them with a smile on their face. I think the world needs more people like them and I try to pay homage to them everytime I create a character.
Q: What do you do when the muse decides to take a holiday or become really difficult? How do you try to coax them/she/it/he back to the drawing board?
A: I simply walk away with the muse. I have no other choice. I have weeks that go by with no writing being done and then in a flash of awesome I will be at my laptop like schroeder on his piano for months endlessly.
Q: Do you have any specific things (or rituals) that help you to write or that inspire you?
A: Not really. I’m a jotter. I’ll jot down this note or that word whatever tickles my fancy at the moment and then when my brain is ready, it unloads like a tsunami.
Q: If the world was to end tomorrow, what three things would be on your bucket list?
A: I would want to travel the world Ireland, Scotland, climb Machu Picchu. I would want to have A bar-b-que with all my close friends and family. Have our boys break out the music equipment and rock out the end of the world.
Q: Are there any authors who have influenced your work?
A: Every author I’ve ever read has an influence, not only on my writing, but on me as a person. E.E.Cummings, Anne Rice, Lora Leigh, Shakespere…I’m an obssesive reader and I devour books, all kinds of books. It gives me a fresh prospective in which to re-examine our world.
Q: What comes first for you: Setting? Storyline? Characters?
A: Storyline. I have to know what going to happen before I interject characters into it.
Q: If one of your books became a movie, which celebrity would you like to star as your main characters?
A: I honestly wouldn’t have a clue. I think I would be horrified if someone wanted to turn my book into a movie. It’s very rare that a movie captures the true nature of the book it’s trying to portray. Don’t get me wrong…I love going to the movies. Just not to movies that were made from books.
Q: What do you have coming next? Anything you want to tell us?
A: I have been fevorishly working on the second book in my warrior series. Riley and Abigail. It has no title yet and no contract for release. I’m just taking my time and babying it until I release it into the world to do it’s own thing. I just hope everyone loves the characters as much as I love writing them.
Q: If you came with a warning label, what would it say?
A: ‘Could be worse…I could have a twin!’
Q: What else would you like readers to know about you or your work?
A: Not much really…I’m a pretty straight forward person and I try to write as such. I do hope the readers get a glimpse of myself in everything I write.
Q: Where can we find you on the web?

Welcome Guest Author Jean Hart Stewart

Hi and welcome to my blog, Jean. Please make yourself at home and grab a drink from my hunky cabana boys, Zeke and Jake. So tell us a little about yourself.

Q: What genre do you write and for what publisher(s)?
A. I write paranormal romance and historical romance and mix them up a bit. All my books are set in Great Britain, and so far each one’s been in a different year. From 1890 to the present day. Publishers are Ellora’s Cave Blush and Passion in Print.

Q: Tell us about your latest/upcoming release. What inspired it?
A. My newest one is Quest for Magic, coming out from Passion in Print. Lee Pearce helped me, especially with the sexier scenes and she’s good. She’ll have you squirming in you chair.

Q: Who are some of your favorite characters from your books? The hardest to write? The easiest?
A, My favorite are the lead characters in Druid’s Daughter, my first published book. Lance is an aristocrat and the head of the London police unit searching for a missing child. Morgan has to convince him her Druid abilities can help him. These two were the easiest. The hardest was my heroine in my new book, Quest for Magic.. Making a reserved Shakespearean actress unbend and fall in love with a rake really taxed me.

Q: What do you do when the muse decides to take a holiday or become really difficult? How do you try to coax them/she/it/he back to the drawing board?
A. I’ve only had one writer’s block. My husband died seven months ago and I just couldn’t write for a while. That’s when I asked Lee to co-author and she turned the trick. No problem now, have two more books accepted and in the queue at PIP. I’m very grateful to her.

Q: Is there a genre you haven’t tried yet but plan to in the future?
A. Would love to write steampunk.

Q: If the world was to end tomorrow, what three things would be on your bucket list?
A. Really only one, tell everybody how much I love them. Oh, and maybe have a last glass of vodka with my daughter.

Q: You’re on a remote island with a handsome man, a computer, and a “mysterious” source of electricity to power your computer. What do you do?
A. Run a check on him before I attack him?

Q: What comes first for you: Setting? Storyline? Characters?
A. Characters, then storyline. Setting is always researched, so doesn’t take quite so much emotional feeling. Each book I’ve written demands a lot of research for the specific time period.

Q: If one of your books became a movie, which celebrity would you like to star as your main characters?
A. Colin Firth, I’ve had a case on him for years. He could be any of my heroes he wants. I think Sandra Bullock for the female lead, since I like my heroines feisty.

Q: What do you have coming next? Anything you want to tell us?
A. Victoria’s Visions and Seducing Simon are in the queue at PIP and will be coming out soon. I’ve been in an ongoing battle with Red Rose Publishing and finally have my rights back to a great historical. I’m renaming it Spies and Roses and will be submitting it soon to various houses. So glad to have it back.

Q: If you came with a warning label, what would it say?
A. Watch for that almost-hidden sense of humor.

Q: What else would you like readers to know about you or your work?
A. That I love, love, love writing.

Q: Where can we find you on the web?
