Suz deMello’s Gypsy Witch

Gypsy WitchGypsy Witch by Suz deMello

The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department is no place for airy-fairy wimps, and Ben McCullough is the toughest of the tough. He tells himself he’s bedding the luscious Elena Lautari only because she’s a babe, not because she’s a card-carrying member of the Northern California Church of Wicca. Ben thinks she’s a feather away from an arrest for fraud, since she makes a living telling fortunes and making charms for the lovelorn. He can’t see her as a lifelong mate even though she’s more than a match for him in the sack, and losing her is unthinkable.

But Elena is the real deal, a modern witch of much power and even more restraint. When her daughter, Gina, steals her mother’s spell book and uses it to shatter the fabric of existence and release an ancient evil, Elena must put reality back in place—even if she loses Ben in the process. Will Ben and Elena’s fragile love be lost with the revelation of her magic?

Maybe, but there are others ready to heal her battered heart. When Ben’s partner attempts to claim Elena, will Ben move aside or move in?

If she doesn’t fall in love with him by midnight, Jean-Claude is destined to walk the planes of dreams for the next hundred years before finding his love again. Can he be able to steal her heart and make her his for all time? Or will it be too late for them?

Adult Teaser:

Soon it was time for the man of the hour. It seemed the energy in the room went up a hundredfold. The women looked as if they eagerly awaited a rock star.

Raven saw from the corner of her eye, Jenna smiling at Marc craftily. They were up to something, but what was beyond her grasp at the moment. Raven turned her full attention to the stage where the most magnificent man walked amid the catcalls and cheers, so supremely handsome that he took her breath away.

That chiseled face and those bright eyes…the rock-hard body in a tux tailored to look as if made just for him…the way he walked… sex on legs, all hot and molten.

God, when he turned around, the room went in a tizzy with screams. Man, did he have a nice, tight ass. Raven almost came right then and there when she thought about how her hands would feel holding on to those cheeks. It was a perfect ass in her opinion—perfect to grab, wrap her legs around, and never let go of.

The bidding started with a furious passion, and soon it soared over a thousand dollars.

“Go ahead, honey, bid on the man!” Jenna encouraged as she practically climbed out of her seat with excitement. “The dog is so cute, with its scrunched face. The colors are amazing on the Boxer. I know how you like that breed.”

Raven blinked. The man looked right at her from the end of the runway. Gulping quickly, she raised her paddle to bid twelve hundred dollars on him.

Before she knew it, she was in a bidding war with Hailey Meredith.

“Two thousand,” Raven called out.

The crowd roared as each bid went up even more.

“Two thousand five hundred!” Hailey’s voice called out.

Raven gulped and bid the last amount she knew she could afford and prayed as hard as she could, never taking her eyes off this man. “Three thousand dollars!”

The crowd groaned as no one bid again. As the gavel went down once…twice…three times, Raven almost fell off her chair in shock. The gavel rang down as sold…to her!

Stunned disbelief raced across her face as Jean-Claude came down the stairs, with Jeb. He looked at her and smiled a slow, sexy grin all too familiar…yet he was still a stranger.

Oh my god! I just won that sex god!

Welcome Erika Lindsen

Hi and welcome to my blog Erika Lindsen. Please make yourself at home and grab a drink from my hunky cabana boys, Zeke and Jake.  So tell us a little about yourself.

How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?

Quite a bit actually. Or more, my desires. I am a shy person and have a hard time connecting with people. In my writing, my heroines are strong and feisty, something I wish I was. On the same hand, my main characters are very tight nit when it comes to friends. I have only a few that are very close and that’s how it is in my writing.

Generally, how long does it take you to write a book?

Since I novellas, usually about 20-25k words, maybe a month to write and a month to a  month and a half to edit. If I’m really in to a story, I can write it in a week.

What is your writing routine once you start a book?

I just go with it. I’m a pantster so whatever flows is how it goes lol. I am always thinking about my writing, even staying up late at night dreaming about it, so I have a good plan as how I want it to flow.

Tell us about your latest release or upcoming release. What inspired it?

My latest release Soul, is a paranormal romance. It is a nice, short read for those who are limited on reading time. The premise is the main male character, Drebin, is a demon called a Taker. His job is to entice people into committing suicide so he can Take their souls and give to Lucifer for a source of food. He is sent to Take Ally’s soul next. Only once he meets her, things get a bit complicated for him…

As for what inspired it, I grew up Catholic so religion and all things in that realm have fascinated me. I have always loved the dark and edgy things in life so a mixture of the two is where I get my stories. Paranormal elements are my favorite things to write about.

What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels, do you find them difficult to write?

Soul is sex free, well the first in the series, but I actually enjoy writing love scenes. It isn’t about the sex or the act itself, more of the intimacy of it. What does she smell? How does his body feel? Is sweat running down his temple? These are things that make a great love scene.

What kind of research do you do for your books?

Since I write paranormal, I do a ton of research on myths and legends. It is fun to learn what has been made up by Hollywood and what the truths are behind the legends.

What are some of your favorite things or hobbies to do?

I enjoy first and foremost writing. When not doing that, I love spending time with my husband. We are having a blast watching old TV shows. I used to be a hairstylist so I often find myself still learning all I can about that.

Who are some of your other favorite authors and genres to read?

I am a total romance junkie. If there is a love story, I’m game lol. My favorite author is Iris Johansen. Then Johanna Lindsey. Although I am fast becoming a huge Jill Myles fan.

Among your own books, have you a favorite?  A favorite hero or heroine?

My fave is from my still work in progress. The heroine is Alex and the hero is Tristan. I  don’t want to give too much away and jinx it.

Which comes first, the story, the characters or the setting?

Characters. I think of a type of character or creature and work from there.

What part of a book has been the easiest to write?  The hardest?

I hate to sound like this, but the whole story is easy as long as I’m in the flow. The hard part is if I’m not feeling it.

What are the elements of a great romance for you?

Basic elements. Attractions, humor, love at first sight. Sure they are caught up in something, but the relationship stands out first.
What is the hardest part of writing/the easiest for you?

Finding motivation is the easiest and hardest. Some days are better than others.

Are you in control of your characters or do they control you?

They got me in handcuffs with a knife to my throat to write for them lol.

What are some of your current projects?

I also write children’s stories, so I’m working on the sequel to my popular Three Sibling

Adventures book. There is the also named story above. On submission is the sequel to Soul and I’m editing the third.

Boxers, briefs, boxerbriefs…. Or commando on a man? Why?

Boxers. I find the rest gross lol.

What is your strangest habit?

I pick my inner knuckles. I know, weird, right?

When you looked in the mirror this morning, what was the first thing you thought?

I should have washed my makeup off last night.

What is your favorite pizza?

Five cheese with stuffed crust.

What is one thing scientists should invent?

A pillow that keeps itself cool no matter what.

If you could time travel, where would you go?

In the future and get the cure for cancer and bring it back.

What is your favorite thing about being a writer?

The creative. Learning what others (my characters) are thinking is an adventure.

If I was a first time reader of your books, which one would you recommend I start with and why?

Obvious for adults I’d pick Soul. I really like the unique premise and how it all worked out. The evil to nice guy thing was interesting to travel through. If you have kids I recommend my Three Sibling Adventures book under my alter ego Erika Talbot. 100% of the royalties go to the Toledo Children’s Hospital oncology unit.

What do you hope readers take with them after reading one of your stories?

I just want them to get that good feeling you get after reading an amazing book. That sense of calm and wanting more of the characters. Not wanting it to end.

Anything else you want to mention?

I love hearing feedback from readers. If I am lucky enough to have you pick up my novellas, reviews and just general feedback is always appreciated.

I would also like to thank everyone for taking the time to learn about me and my work. And thank you Raine for having me!

Blood runs across the floor like a winter’s creek. It always puts a smile on his face. As a Taker – a demon sent to entice humans to commit suicide in order to gain their soul for Lucifer – Drebin is at the top of his game. He has already claimed 421 souls and there is no sign of him slowing down. Much like a fine wine, Drebin gets better with age.

Alexia Downer is just a few months into her freshman year of college and still undecided about a career. Ally is more than eager to meet new people and live up to the college stereotypes. But her gentle nature may cause her to put trust in the wrong person.

The stage is set, the hound is released, but Drebin begins to have second thoughts about his next victim, Alexia, his 422nd victim. Her beauty is mesmerizing and her spirit is captivating.

As much as he tries, Drebin cannot bring himself to destroy her, yet he must. He has a higher, more vicious power to answer to, after all…

Welcome Addison James

Hi and welcome to my blog, <Addison James>. Please make yourself at home and grab a drink from my hunky cabana boys, Zeke and Jake.  So tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Addison James and I write sweet romance and women’s fiction. I have a couple contemporary sweet romance comedies published recently: THE BEST BAD DATE published December 2011 with MuseItUp publishing and POP-TARTS AND TEXTING to be published February 2012 with Books To Go Now publishing.

How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing? Actually, it’s a combination of real life and imagination. I might take something I heard about, then say “what if” and expand from there.

Generally, how long does it take you to write a book? I wrote this short story in a few weeks. I’m writing a novel now that I wrote from February to July last year, and am still revising.

What is your writing routine once you start a book? First, I get an idea that won’t go away. I just have this urge to write, so I do. I have kids, so I write early in the morning before the rest of the family is awake: about 445am and write until6amwhen the kids wake up.

Tell us about your latest release or upcoming release. What inspired it? I’m always attracted to how people first meet and what that first spark is like, then thought,  what if everything went wrong yet still went right? That contradiction of good and bad, wrong and right, best and worst, intrigued me. So I wrote about it. I think a person’s actions say more than words, and I had this couple reacting to this bad date and showing their true characters.

What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels, do you find them difficult to write?  I try to avoid writing explicit love scenes. I keep thinking my kids may find my writing one day and I want to avoid that situation!

What kind of research do you do for your books? Research? Very little. They’re not historical but contemporary. I might look up things about the settings of my stories like is there a beach front near the downtown or is there a first run movie theater in walking distance?
What are some of your favorite things or hobbies to do? I like to read, write, travel, watch movies, go for long walks, socialize with friends.

Who are some of your other favorite authors and genres to read? I like a variety of classic and modern, from mysteries to women’s fiction. I grew up reading Mary Stewart romantic suspense; she has always been my benchmark. I also read lots of mysteries like PD James and Dorothy L. Sayers. Jane Austen is always a favorite. I read some YA and was just blown away by The Hunger Games.

Among your own books, have you a favorite?  A favorite hero or heroine? In my own books, that’s hard to say. It’s like naming your favorite child! I’m writing a book club women’s fiction now, and one of the characters is a self-described bitch. It’s fun writing someone who’s tough on the outside but soft on the inside. I usually write sweet, funny, smart heroines. This one likes to offend people, and it’s a nice change.

Which comes first, the story, the characters or the setting? The story or the characters, The settings follow.

What part of a book has been the easiest to write?  The hardest? I find the first draft easiest and revising hardest.
What are the elements of a great romance for you? The characters, the emotions, the setting, the story, the obstacles, the feelings they have for each other.

What is the hardest part of writing/the easiest for you? Hardest is revising, easiest writing first draft.

Are you in control of your characters or do they control you? I control them, but sometimes when I’m writing, I’m just taken in an unexpected direction, but it feels right. It doesn’t change the story dramatically, but things just make more sense for that character.

What are some of your current projects? I’m publishing a short story this week called POP-TARTS AND TEXTING with Books to Go Now, and I had another romantic comedy short story, THE BEST BAD DATE was published in December by Muse It Up publishing. I’m revising my novel, SECOND CHANCES, a women’s fiction about a woman who realizes she loves her long time best friend and has a second chance at love. I accidentally wrote a YA prequel to it about how she met her friend at school that ended up novel length, so now I need to learn about the YA market! And a male writer friend suggested we co-write a thriller which is intriguing. I’ve never written one before but I think it’d be fun to write something more plot heavy than I usually write.

Boxers, briefs, boxerbriefs…. Or commando on a man? Why? Honestly, it doesn’t matter. If he’s attractive, he treats me right, he’s a grown man and not an insecure mess, I really don’t notice.

What is your strangest habit? Oh. No idea. Maybe my love of peanut butter my habit of eating it out of the jar. No one else in the family eats it, so I double dip!

When you looked in the mirror this morning, what was the first thing you thought? Today I wondered if I had combed my hair. I hadn’t.

What is your favorite pizza? Pepperoni and mushroom. That’s classic. I like veggie ones too, then I feel less guilt; anything with prosciutto is heaven.

What is one thing scientists should invent? A lotion that would make cellulite disappear! That and a cure for cancer, and I’d be happy.

If you could time travel, where would you go? Time travel? Interesting. As a woman, I really like the modern era, because we have more rights than any other time in history. Maybe the future to see how my kids are doing. And, I would know what to invest in, then go back to present day and rework my portfolio!

What is your favorite thing about being a writer? Writing is a fabulous creative outlet for me. I don’t have many creative outlets, but this is a big one. I’m the sort of person who doesn’t think fast on her feet; I think of the perfect response hours later. My heroines don’t have that problem!

If I was a first time reader of your books, which one would you recommend I start with and why? First time readers would be fortunate that only my short stories are published. You can start with any and all!

What do you hope readers take with them after reading one of your stories? Take some empathy for others, regardless if similar background, region, beliefs.

Anything else you want to mention? No, just read, review and enjoy!

When is a bad date good? Susan Wells finds out when a bachelor auction leads to a date with handsome  Doctor Roger Lane, and a night to remember. What could go wrong? Everything. Will love find a way through this comedy of errors? Absolutely.

Excerpt:

 “It’s for a good cause.”

Dr. Roger Lane repeated this mantra over and over again as he was dragged onstage in front of several hundred screaming women.

It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. Roger knew today was the day of the bachelor auction fundraiser for Saint Albans Hospital. Marge, the head of the Ladies’ Auxiliary, even sought him out specifically to participate–“Our own Doctor McDreamy” she was quoted saying).

Roger purposely arranged to be out of the hospital today, but there was an emergency surgery that required his attention. After the surgery Nurse Williams decided to show him a super secret shortcut back to the physician’s parking lot, which somehow managed to reroute him so that he ended up in the auditorium on the stage where hundreds of women were yelling, “Take it off! Take it off!”

 About Addison James:

Addison James spent her childhood with her nose in a book, ignoring the natural beauty of her native Vermont. She went to the right schools, got the right jobs, and spent her early adult years being responsible and stable. Then, her long repressed urge to write emerged and she has been feeding it ever since.
