Mysterious roses keep popping up on Skylar Everclear’s doorstep. No idea what is going, a little disturbed by this secret admirer, he tries to forget it all since he just got rid of the latest line of loser boyfriends and just wants to do his job at the local bakery. But when he meets his new neighbor, Marc Douglas, he finds himself drawn to the quiet young man even as he tries to not let his libido take over. But on Valentine’s Day, a mysterious rose again pops up with a note to meet his admirer that night. Will Skylar take a chance that this time, love is right there waiting for him?

Sneak peek Teaser:

Skylar opened his door and groaned. Another damn rose was lying on his doormat. It ticked him off that he had no idea who was doing this but every freaking night this week he either came home to a rose on his porch or opened the door to it. It was enough to feel creeped out now. He looked around, seeing no one, shut the door with a soft click and leaned against the door in despair. It has been three months since he threw out his lover, Saul, after catching him fucking some other guy after one of the numerous block parties the neighborhood held in the summer and autumn months and frankly he didn’t know what to do anymore. All he did was work, sleep and work some more. He always seemed to pick those guys who are bound to break his heart.

“I must have ‘Loser’ tattooed on my forehead the last few years.” Skylar muttered to himself.  “Why can’t I find a nice guy for once? One who won’t lie, cheat or steal and break my heart by telling me I wasn’t good enough for them.” Sighing, Skylar grabbed his backpack, keys and cell phone as he hurried to get ready for work. As a baker in the local bakery, his day started earlier than many others. With Valentine’s around the corner, he was working longer than normal hours. He was in the bakery at 4 am and not coming home till almost five at night. It made for long hellish days but he enjoyed what he did. Plus he enjoyed seeing the people enjoy his desserts and hey, the paycheck after days like this made a nice chunk of change in his bank account. His mind on what items he needed to get done for the next few days, he opened then shut his door, locked it and made sure to pick up the rose before he stepped all over it, crushing the fragile blooms. As he turned and walked to his car, he wondered who his mysterious admirer was.

Skylar’s day got off to a good start at work as he hummed a long with a local radio station playing 80’s rock bands while he rolled out dough for cookies, breads and made delicate fruit pastries. He was finally able to take a quick break around noon when the front sales person, Marlene, poked her head in the doorway saying they needed more pastry hearts. Seemed everyone was buying those desserts for their significant other, or ordering the smaller ones for class or office parties. He sighed as the fleeting dream of getting off his feet for ten minutes went on by as he got to work making more goodies. By the time five o’clock hit, Skylar was exhausted but pleased. They sold out of many of the Valentine themed items and the specialty breads were also almost gone. He made a note on the dry-erase board what needed to be replaced tomorrow and clocked out, waving to the front sales people as he went through the door to the parking lot.

Shivering as he hurried to his car, Skylar fumbled with his keys before unlocking the door and sliding into the seat. Turning the heat up on high, he waited a bit before putting his car in drive to go home. All he wanted to do was grab a shower, order a pizza and veg in front of the television. He was so exhausted it wasn’t funny. Watching couples come into the bakery or men buying items for their partners/girlfriends was a downer to be sure. He never liked Valentine’s Day to begin with. He felt it was a holiday that Hallmark cards liked so they could guilt people into buying cheesy cards and florist could raise the prices of roses so high it was mind boggling. He never had a nice Valentine’s Day where a lover surprised him with dinner or gave him something romantic or funny or sweet. He was always alone on Valentine’s day and he tried to make sure he didn’t have to deal with people who were so sugary sweet they made his teeth ache. Finally feeling the car heat up, he drove off determined to not think of hearts, flowers and all the things associated to Valentine’s Day. It was for couples, people in love and not for him.

Excerpt:

Keisha wakes up to find herself tied up in the trunk of a car, and futilely tries to escape while the men had to walk to a gas station when they ran out of gas.  They’ve returned:

The trunk opened and Keisha closed her eyes, hoping that if she appeared to be still unconscious, they would leave her alone.
She felt the tip of a gun against her cheek as it stroked her face.
“Aw, she’s still out cold. That’s no fun.”
“Just feel her up then let’s get out of here. I’m getting a weird feeling that we’re being watched…”
“By who? There’s no one else out in this God-forsaken…what the fuck?”
Keisha heard a swooshing sound and opened her eyes to see a blur of movement. There was a snarling growl, combined with the yells of real fear, coming from her two tormentors.
“Kill the bitch!.”
She felt the gun stuck into her ribs and held her breath, waiting for death. The gun fired. The bullet tore its way through her skin and chest muscles, burned through her lung, and severed arteries as it lodged in her heart. She found it difficult to let out the breath or to breathe in any more air.
There was the awful sound of breaking bones…then silence.
Someone leaned over into the trunk and lifted her gently out as if she was as light as a child. She felt herself being laid on the ground and fought to breathe as her blood pulsed out of her through the chest wound, soaking her clothes and making them stick to her. Her rescuer tore through the knots that she was unable to budge. She tried to thank him with her last gasps of air.

“Tha…thanks.” She choked on her own blood and her head swam.
“Keisha, look at me,” he commanded in a voice that sounded vaguely familiar, but very distant, as if she was moving far away from him.
She tried to focus her gaze but merely saw the outlines of a man’s torso, with a face barely visible, topped with white hair that shone in the dim moonlight.
“I had hoped to spare you this but I have no other choice now. I can’t lose you…I won’t. You must choose right now, before it’s too late. Do you want to live?”
In her mind she giggled but all that came out of her mouth was a gargling sound.
“Um, yeah…don’t think…option anymore…”
“Yes, it is. But if I do this thing, you will be changed. You will be alive, yet not alive. Are you sure you want me to do this?”
Her head nodded up and down as darkness descended, her vision clouded by the blood that was everywhere now. She drifted off and idly wondered if she was going anywhere or if she was just going to lose consciousness and that would be the end of thought.
Suddenly her mind was invaded by a tall, blond man with an intense look in his eyes that shone with a black fire in their depths.
What are you doing here? I’m busy dying…who are you?
“You are dying but not in the way you expect. What I’m doing is ensuring that you will wake up again tomorrow night. What images would you like me to entertain you with as your body dies?”

She tried to shrug but was unable to move any part of her body.
She felt herself being held by strong arms, with the tiny hairs on her neck standing at full attention while the lips on her neck created a drowsy drugged feeling in her mind.
“How about something erotic?”
Like?
She was suddenly on a downy-soft bed, naked, with a man’s head between her thighs. His tongue was driving her mad with desire as he alternated between licking her from front to back, and nibbling on her clit gently. When his fingers pulled the hood back and his teeth grazed her clit, she screamed with pleasure as the orgasm crashed through her with the force of a tsunami. She rose up off of the bed with the tightening of her muscles. Then the man loomed before her, spread her thighs uncomfortably wide and his hips surged forward. The pleasure she had just felt multiplied as his massive organ pushed its way into her, stretchingher almost beyond comfort. He filled her, then withdrew only to
slam into her again and again. It was almost more than she could bear. She screamed as he came, the force of his orgasm making her spasm with an intensity to match his own.
He growled like a wild animal as he pulsated inside of her.
Her muscles clenched around him. Her orgasms were like a roller coaster of pleasure, pushing her up a hill then crashing her down on the other side.
The last thing she remembered was his voice telling her, “Drink. Drink deeply. Take as much as you can hold. I have emptied you; now, fill yourself with me.”
I’m already filled with you. Her thoughts were her own but inexplicably she felt his chest move as he chuckled. Everything went black and she drifted off into nothingness.

A swoon tease

Strutting the length of the suite, he wore nothing but a cowboy hat and a smile. Cocky bastard. She had insisted he leave it on. Heat twisted and turned within, saturating her inside out as she skimmed the length of him from behind her lashes. From his ruggedly handsome face and strong jaw line, to the beads of sweat glistening on his rippled chest, she was tempted to trace her hand over his ass.

He turned his head and set his gaze upon her, looking like one of those heroes from one of Sandra’s romance covers. Except without pants. Her pulse quickened.

“Ma’am.” He dipped his hat, shading his stare with the dark shadow caused by the rim of the Stetson. “Said you wanted more excitement in your life on your 1Night Stand profile. I hope I don’t disappoint you.”

Welcome Leona Bushman

Hi and welcome to my blog, Leona Bushman. Please make yourself at home and grab a drink from my hunky cabana boys, Zeke and Jake. So tell us a little about yourself.

*Takes drink and purrs* It’s the drink, it’s the drink, I swear :D I’ve been here before, so quick sum up, have a large family and love to be busy :D right now, I’m crocheting an afghan for my friend across the pond (UK) and writing/editing etc and winterizing my house.

To get us started can you tell us a little about what you are working on or have coming out?

I’m still working on sequels to The Ulfric’s Mate, two at a time, and they’re both over 20k. One of them was supposed to be finished already. *Glares at muse* I told my muse, keep it around 15k. A short teaser. But noooo. Had to go and write a major plot point of the series in it. Sigh. That muse of mine.

As for what’s on its way… *grins* I have TWO of them coming in the very near future. One in November, Rick Sexed up the Doc, a Naughty Nursery Rhyme, a tale with some hot steamy interracial sex. It’s scorching erotica, with m/f, m/m, and m/m/f sex scenes.

The other is a Christmas/holiday tale, The Captain’s Christmas. This one is a sci-fi I wrote just for the Christmas/holiday season and it will be out end of December. Projected date at this point is December 28th, still in the holiday season lol I’m so excited. Christmas is my favorite time of year (Halloween a close second. If it wasn’t for the spiders, then it would be a tie :P ) so it’s been exciting knowing I’ve got a Christmas story coming out.

Both Rick Sexed up the Doc and The Captain’s Christmas are short stories that are a lot of fun to read.

I have another short, Daryn’s Slayer (an historical vamp novel) in the Crimson anthology scheduled out for sometime in February.

How would you describe yourself using only five words?

Stubborn, creative, loving, compassionate, tough

If you could write a warning label for yourself as a person or an author, what would it say?

As a person: Don’t mess with my family. As an author? Don’t assume with me. You just never know what I might do or say (write) next!

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

I told you about my fashion one. *looks around* but I don’t mention that one much. In fact, you’re readers are probably the only ones to know. *thinks* Maybe I put it up on my blog once. I hope not. My other guilty pleasure? I just started Roller Derby. *grins* It’s going to take some…creative…financing but we got a brand new team and I can’t wait to learn all the rules.

Name one thing readers would be surprised to know about you.

The roller derby lol It’s fairly new and I haven’t blogged about it yet.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

OH that’s tricky. Within the US, probably the ocean, any coast, or New Orleans, or Montana. Outside US, Scotland, Ireland, England, France, Italy.

How do you get yourself in the mood to write?

I don’t really. I’m nearly always in the mood to write. If I’m not, I just keep plugging away until I either get in the mood, or I get what needs doing accomplished.

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

My typical writing day involves LOTS of distractions. I have a 3 kids still at home when not at school. Except a couple hours two days a week when he’s in early start program, my 3yo with Down Syndrome is at home even when the others are off, and he’s VERY active.

I look at FB when I’m thinking. It’s like putting whatever problem is ailing me on the back burner. Usually, I fix the problems quickly that way, or at least get a good starting point. On the other hand, I just play on twitter cuz I like it lol

But if I’m not stuck or researching, very little gets through my consciousness that’s not the story, except silence (when you’ve got young kids, silence usually means the worst kind of trouble) or my son is hungry. No one can work if there’s a hungry 3yo in the house. Trust me on this.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

LOL the list is soooo long. And really, it depends on what I~or my muse~need. I love to read. I’ll try anything. Right now, I’m so busy writing and editing that the only reading I’m doing involves research or grammar. Blah. Although, history fascinates me, so that’s not so bad. Agatha Christie probably tops the list as I can reread her books at nearly anytime and be happy with her style and her smartness.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

OH shoot. Diana Paz is a new author with an historical on its way. I really want to read that one. CJ Redwine has a YA recently released that I’m pining for. But would really like to read the next JD Robb,  or Kay Hooper’s Bishop series. I’m so behind on that one! UGH. So many books, so little time!!

Is there something special you do to celebrate when one of your books is released?

One time, I got a tattoo. My first and only tattoo. LOL My muse is tapping me on the back and giving me dirty looks. I’m not including her enough. I also do a lot of dancing. But, I have a little ritual I do for myself. I have chocolate that I DO NOT share. And I plan a dinner for my husband and I to have out when I get paid. :D

Do you have a favorite TV show you can’t miss?

I don’t have TV in my house, so unfortunately, I miss all my shows. But, I watch them on Netflix as soon as they are out. My favorites are Doctor Who, Supernatural, The Walking Dead, and Once Upon a Time. CSI and Criminal Minds used to be a couple of my favs, still are really, but they’re not easily accessible for free viewing on the net. At least not that works in my area.

If you could date any character from any book, who would it be and why-no it doesn’t have to be from your books?

Probably Acheron from Sherrilyn Kenyon, er before he fell in love. Why? He has great power, but greater control and compassion. Not to mention, smart, good looking, and strong.

What is the strangest source of writing inspiration you’ve ever had? Well, Rick Sexed Up the Doc was inspired by a buddy of mine tweeting while drunk. He’s gay, his good friend he was out drinking with is straight, and I’m married, but we had a ball tweeting and talking. The reason I think it’s strange is, even though I’d never met nor seen pictures of either of them before this book had finished edits, they inspired me to write it and it really wasn’t about “them” or a drunken night.

If your muse were to talk behind your back, what secrets would he/she tell?

She would tell you…*ow* my muse would like to speak for herself this time.

I’m Leona’s muse and I want to tell you she is a cupcake with that creamy filling most of the time. But tough as nails and stubborn. *glares at writer* And lordy, you wouldn’t believe the things that inspire her, or how easy she blushes. You’d think after five kids, she’d be beyond blushing, but not her.

Now, for the right bribe, I could be tempted to tell you her latest crazy writing idea…

Behind the Story-A Summer Night Fling

So I decided to give you a little behind the scenes information on this story. :-)

Hot Summer Fun is our first self-published anthology from It’s Raining Men blog and it includes over 10 authors int he M/M Genre. Let me say that this anthology is my first foray into M/M and I am so humbled plus proud to be included with the likes of Jaxx Steele, Raawiya, Sara York, Lisa Worrall, Sue Brown, Ike Rose and more.

My story was based on my first FFF (Friday Flash Fiction) that was inspired in part by Joe Manganiello from True Blood.

He was the basis of Alex, my shape-shifter cat in my story and with readers wanting to know more after that FFF, so with the boys chattering in my ear, in one day I wrote A Summer Night Fling. I plan to continue their story in the Valentine 2013 Anthology from IRM and then maybe a full length story….

But Cal and Alex have stolen my heart. I hope you enjoy their story as much as I did writing it.

Welcome J. Lilley today

Hi and welcome to my blog, J. Lilley Please make yourself at home and grab a drink.  So tell us a little about yourself.

Hi, do you know that’s the worst thing I can get asked? I go ohhh help, and forget who I am or what I am.  And I’m scared people will go ‘boring’ and be put off by my bio, go and make a cup of tea, or prune the roses or something.

Okay then. Are you sitting comfortably?

I’m a well over twenty one year old female, and I live in Central Scotland, with my  husband. Our children have flown the nest, so it’s me, him, and two very spoiled cats. They rule the roost, and pay lips service to our thoughts that we do.

Where we live, is a beautiful part of the country called The Trossachs. Lochs and glens, mountains and mist. Hey that sounds poetic, but better than saying ors of rain.

I write YA books and so far they are set around here. I have my inspiration on my doorstep.

So tell us a little about your latest book. What inspired this masterpiece?

I love that you call it a masterpiece. Let’s hope so. Well *deep breath*

A friend of mine couldn’t find a book for her daughter’s 14th birthday. So I. in a moment of temporary aberration, offered to write one. All I was told was it needed to be about shifters.

So I wrote a short 12k and Rach, the birthday girl loved it. I happened to mention it to a publisher ( as you do lol) who asked to see it. He was thinking of setting up a YA publishing house. LIked it and then told  me it needed to be at least twice as long, and he wanted a series. From this Shalea was born.

So book one Discovered. tells how Rach moves to Scotland and finds out things about herself and her family that she had no idea about.

If you had any super powers, what would they be and why? An eye on the end of my finger so I could see round corners and behind me. and to be able to tidy up..AND find everything I’ve er ‘tidied’ away, with a flick of a wrist!

What genre haven’t you tried yet but want to in the future? It seems I’m having a go at urban fantasy. And I’d love to do a good mystery.

What is one thing readers might be surprised to know about you? I live just up the road (lane) from the Fairy Tree

If we asked your muse to describe you in three words, what do you think they might say? Prolific, visual and adventurous.

What authors can be found in your library of books? HELP, you need to see my study! W E B Griffin, Miss Read, Bill Knox,  Robyn Donald, Erica James, Katie FForde, Peter Robinson, PAul Theroux. And there’s even more on my Ereader. Doris O’Connor, Cherie Nicholls, Stuart McBride.. .The list is endless.

Have any guilty pleasures you want to share with us? Apart from Wine and Chocolate? Traveling.

Is there anything you’re currently working on that you can give us a taste of? I’m just writing the last book in this series…

Resolved.  Hopefully it ties in the ends, but, well, is everything Resolved?

What is your favorite way to relax after a hard day working and writing?

ER wine and chocolate, preferably somewhere warm and with DH.

What is one historical figure you would love to chat with and why? Beau Brummel to ask him why he went the way he did.

Would you care to mention any upcoming or WIP projects that readers can look forward from you in the future?

Well as I mentioned, I’m writing a YA urban fatally with Suzanne Fuller. and then, there’s an idea for a series of YA book set  on an Island in Loch Lomond

Out of all your books, do you have a favorite one? If not, then which one is closest to your heart? It’s got to be Discovered, that’s closest to my heart. It was and is my first YA. But the one I think is probably, my favorite by a smidgeon, is book 3 Accepted. It gave me goosebumps as I wrote it.

Thanks for coming. Is there anything else you want to add?

Hey, thank you,  for inviting me over. I enjoyed the drink and the chat.

It’s been fun. These books may say YA but according to Rach’s mum, she’s going to read them as well. So hopefully they will appeal to all ages.

 Here’s the blurb..

 YA

DiscoveredWhen Rach moved to Scotland she knew there would be changes. She hadn’t expected them to be quite so dramatic. Not only was there a new house, new school and new friends, there was also a secret to discover.

Brios Parde was a Patriarch in waiting. When the powerful leopard shifter senses a new Shalean he is amazed to discover it’s the new girl. All his senses tell him Rach will be important to him.

However the Rogues try to destroy the budding relationship. Will Rach decide to side with Brios or help stage an uprising?

Excerpt…

In the end it was easier than he thought to get Rach to meet him. As he entered the school foyer she was standing to one side.

Waiting for me? He liked to think so.

He could tell without any Shalean sensing whatsoever that she was not happy. Struan was standing much too close to her and trying to have a conversation. He watched as one finger jabbed Struan sharply in the chest.

“Look, I’m not interested.” Jab. “Get it?” Jab. “I do not want to go dancing, to the pictures or even hold a conversation with you.” Jab, jab, jab. “You’re talking of things about which you know nothing, and as well as that you’re a rude, jumped-up little shit. Now sod off, or I’ll make you. Ever had a schoolbag in the balls? Because, now’s your chance.” There were a couple more jabs for emphasis.

Brios reminded himself never to upset her. She sounded dangerous, and it seemed her temper matched her hair. So did the color of Struan’s face. He scowled when he saw Brios walking up.

“Might have known you’d get your nose in somewhere,” Stru- an remarked nastily. “Always got to be showing off somehow.” He flicked his finger over Rach’s cheek, and before Brios could retaliate, Rach did it for him. The schoolbag swung through the air and Struan went down like the proverbial log hugging himself.

“Next time you touch me I’ll send your balls where the sun doesn’t shine,” Rach said softly so no teacher could hear, before dropping her schoolbag and just missing the curled up Struan again. “That was a warning; no strength behind it. Watch out if I do use some effort.”

Then she spoke loudly for the benefit of a couple of passing teachers, and ignoring the giggles of some of the pupils in the area. “Oh gosh, I’m so sorry. Oh clumsy me. Are you all right? I didn’t drop it on anything that matters did I?”

Her answer was a gurgle. The first-aid assistant hurried up and shooed Rach and Brios away.

“Horrible little toad. Next time …” “There won’t be a next time Rach, I promise you. Look,” Brios said urgently, “we need to talk. Can you meet me at the end of first period? If you can get to the side gate I’ll pick you up. Please Rach, it’s really important; just this once. Leira will cover for you.” Slowly she nodded and he heaved a sigh of relief.

Teaser from A Summer Night Fling (Hot Summer Fun Anthology)

A teaser from A Summer Night Fling (unedited so it may change)

Three months earlier….

Cal Larson walked into his house and knew something was different. The feeling of peace, of home escaped him that moment. As he tried to figure out what it was, he tossed his coat over the stair railing and asked, “Hey, Mal, you around?” Silence seemed to be the answer even as he walked across the foyer to the living room, searching for his lover of five years. Spying no one in the room, he moved deeper into the house, his heart starting to pound and an uneasy feeling making his stomach churn. Opening the kitchen door and seeing nothing, he made his way back to the stair well and walked up to the master bedroom. Hoping that Malcolm was in the shower, he walked into the room and stopped short. Drawers were open, clothes scattered and no Malcolm.

He ran over to the closet and saw the emptiness where his lover’s clothes should have been. The suitcases they used on trips were gone and with a heavy heart he sat down on the bed, anguish running through his soul.

“What the heck happened?” Cal asked himself as he turned to see the destruction of the room he had many wonderful memories of. Of Malcolm coming towards him, naked after a shower, smelling all manly and all he needed to do was touch him and he was lost.

Hearing a crinkle of paper, he turned and spied a piece of crumpled paper stuck in the sheets of the bed. Smoothing it out as best he could, he saw it was from Malcolm.

Dear Cal,

By now you know I am gone. I can’t do this anymore. I have fallen out of love with you and moved on. I am sorry for this but hope you can forgive me eventually.

My best,

Malcolm Winters

Blinking with shock, Cal stared at the paper in disbelief. His lover decided to leave…without even saying goodbye or offer an explanation at that. He leaves a ‘Dear John’ letter and wipes his hands of five years of being a couple, loving one another and the support from Cal as Malcolm pursued his dream of being an architect. “Well god damn me to hell and back, “ Cal swore as he stood up and walked out of the room, never glancing back as the letter slowly fell to the ground.
