Updates from Raine’s Writing Desk

So sorry I haven’t been around but I have been dealing with RL issues and I am finally able to breathe after three months of stress. So now I am back at the grind with plot bunnies coming out of my ears and books I am trying to finish up for submission.

First I got ‘Moonlight Masquerade’ my short story Contemporary M/M that was in On Valentine’s Day anthology back and I polished it up and sent it off to publishers for consideration.

Next I am working on my paranormal M/M that was in Hot Summer Fun Anthology. This one I am fleshing out more and hoping to have a new series with it. Looking to submit that one by June.

Finally I am back in Devon Falls with a story from the heart, one that has me crying one minute & the next smiling like a loon. Meet Mia, my plucky heroine who is escaping an abusive relationship and trying to start over in Devon Falls, She is opening her bookstore and hoping to live quietly there while she licks her wounds and heals her heart. She just never anticipated Devlin St. Cloud to stir her up and make her want things that have seemed so out of reach. I am enjoying writing this one as it is one story I have been itching to write since I first started Devon Falls. Mia, Devlin and the rest of my beloved characters are looking forward to meeting the readers soon. I hope to get this into my publisher by June at the earliest.

Fall in love with Fantasies Unbound

Available at Publisher / ARe / Amazon / B&N

Prince Aryan has searched his world for the one woman that is his destined mate but has just about given up when he is lead to the human world. Even though it is forbidden to fall in love with one, he finds Skye Andrews completely delectable and wonders if she is his chosen love.

Skye Andrews has just about had it with men. After another disastrous date, she turns to her Aunt who gives her a love potion to try. With a magic spell and a mysterious face haunting her waking days; will Skye be able to find the love she is looking for? Can these two make it work or will their differences tear them apart?

Teaser Excerpt:

Skye sat with her hands fisted in her shirttails so she wouldn’t throttle her well-meaning yet clueless Aunt Mary. The smoking cauldron on the stove erupted into another hiss, and the smell made her stomach curdle.
Aunt Mary muttered to herself as she gathered the necessary ingredients for the love spell from various places in the ancient farmhouse.
Skye tried not to cringe when her aunt walked too close to a knife sitting on the edge of the table. Clearing her throat, Skye mustered enough courage to ask, “Is this thing supposed to be turning black and smelling like rotten eggs?”
“Oh my, yes, dearie,” Aunt Mary said as she bustled around the kitchen.
Skye blew out a deep breath and tried to keep calm as she watched her aunt stir something that looked suspiciously like toad legs in the cauldron. Yuck. I swear, some days it’s almost too much to bear, with Mary’s new found interest in New Age-isms and spells that do everything but what they’re supposed to. Skye looked at the clock and sighed, knowing she wasn’t going to get on the road back to Dayton any sooner than when her aunt deemed it necessary.
Skye tried not to feel dejected, but that wasn’t easy after her disastrous Valentine date. The whole time, her date had just talked and talked about his life and career. She felt lost on the planes of life. With each day going by, it was almost too much to bear as she watched friends and family fall for their true loves. This latest strategy was extreme, to her thinking, but her aunt was determined to get the sparkle back in her eyes, or so she said the first night she was here. It was enough to make Skye cringe in horror, but she couldn’t say anything mean to the one person who loved her more than anything. Flipping her hair off her face, she breathed a sigh of relief as she watched her aunt finish whatever she was doing to the brew. Then Mary turned around with a bottle of the foul-smelling stuff.
“Here you go, dear. All finished and ready for you to imbibe! All you need to do is say three times, “I wish for my true love to find me,” and then within seven days, according to the spell book I got from a used book store, your true love will find you and steal your heart away.” Aunt Mary gazed fondly at Skye, who was trying to look happy but failing to hide the sadness in her eyes.
Skye took the bottle and peered at it, grimacing. It was blackish-blue in color, with something that looked like lightning bugs shining in it, winking here and there. For a moment it was like watching a kaleidoscope of colors, enough to make her eyes cross.
Uncorking the bottle, Skye tried to shield her expression from Mary, but a shudder ran through her. Again she thought of the men who got away or chose someone else and firmed her resolve to find a love of her own. A pleasant licorice scent wafted from the brew, and though Skye was skeptical, she had to admit it smelled better than it looked. Muttering, “Let’s hope it tastes as pleasant as it smells or I am going to throw up chunks,” Skye leaned back and gulped the liquid. As she finished the last drop, she put down the bottle and recited the words her aunt told her to say:

“I wish for my true love to find me.”
“I wish for my true love to find me.”
“I wish for my true love to find me.”

Skye turned to the window and prayed this drink didn’t make her sick when she caught a glimpse of a face looking at her. It was enough to cause her to gasp quietly and take a step back. Those moss-green eyes seemed to call to her, longing for something, and Skye had to wonder if she was losing her mind. She looked away, thinking it was a figment of her imagination, but the face still stared at her. Those chiseled cheeks and full, round lips made her long to feel them over her own, and those cheekbones would give a model envy. Skye felt her body take notice, and her panties got moist with her racing desire. Soon the face faded, though it felt like time stopped and only Skye could see what was there. Shaking her head, she said, “It was nothing. Just a figment of your imagination or a trick with the light. He isn’t real at all.”
But why does my heart and mind tell me otherwise? Is he The One I’ve been searching for? Skye wondered as she got ready to leave for home.

What’s going on with Raine…..

From the Writing Desk of Raine Delight…..

Welcome to my writing desk. Here is where I will update you on what I am working on, coming out and more.

Currently I am working on three items. First up is my final editing of Moonlight Masquerade as I got my rights back to this little story that was in On Valentine’s Day anthology. I hope to have my contemporary M/M story out for submission by the end of the month.
Then I am back to Devon Falls with Grady O’Neil’s story, Mistletoe Magic. He has been waiting so patiently for me to find the inspiration for his book and I am excited to be back in Devon Falls. This would be book Six in the series and I plan to have at least four more books in the coming years.
Finally I am in the middle of fleshing out my other M/M novella, Finding Home, that was originally in the anthology, Hot Summer Fun, under the title ‘A Summer Night Fling’. This is the kick-off of my new series Paranormal Investigations, and will feature the law office my hero in the story works at as well as some new characters. It will be a mix of M/M and M/F with a M/F/M tossed in as well. More news to come for these three projects in the coming months.

Discover Mate of the Alpha and a giveaway

Hi and welcome to my blog, Marie. Please make yourself at home and grab a drink from my hunky cabana boys, Zeke and Jake.  To get us started can you tell us a little about what you are working on or have coming out?

Hello! My name is Marie Mason and I write shifter romances. Whew, glad that confession is out of the way. I’m working feverishly to finish Blind Date with a Bear which I hope to have out by mid-November. The characters are being a little difficult; they don’t want the story to end either. In December I hope to have Christmas Wolf, a very short shifter romance up for the holiday.

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

Chocolate and men. And ice cream. Preferably chocolate ice cream on a man.

Name one thing readers would be surprised to know about you.

I secretly want to try a ménage-a-trois – I mean really what woman wouldn’t?

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

The mountains. There’s nothing more beautiful than driving along a stretch of interstate on a clear blue autumn day.

How do you get yourself in the mood to write?

Open my computer and stare at the blank screen. I also go back and re-read books from my keeper shelf – yes, I have shelves filled with paperback books even in this electronic age.

What is the strangest source of writing inspiration you’ve ever had?

Standing in a check-out line at the grocery store. I know the plot has been done before, but what if that handsome stranger just grabbed you and kissed you?

Are your characters able to love or do they need to be taught?

They need to be taught. The women are usually not as self-confident as most. They need someone to show them they are loveable. Yes, some readers might disagree with not having a strong, confident heroine, but really, what person is that secure in themselves that they think they are truly loveable? To me, that person is even stronger when they allow themselves to open up to another person than the individual who has no doubts.

The heroes in my stories just don’t believe in love. They believe in sex and mating, but not the pesky emotions. To them, mating is loving. There’s a fine line between being domineering and being dominant. Most men have difficulty learning that lesson. But don’t worry, my heroines always make sure they learn the difference.

What can readers expect next from you?

Blind Date with a Bear is scheduled for release in mid-November and Christmas Wolf in December. And, I’m just saying, maybe you’ll see a character or two (hint, hint) from Blind Date sometime in 2014.

Thanks for coming. Is there anything else you want to add? (links, news, etc)

Ethan Scott was reluctant to claim his mate, Lily Reynolds. He was afraid his carnal needs would be too much for the curvy innocent. His wolf was of another mind, pushing the man relentlessly to mate. But Ethan knew once he had the brown-haired beauty there would no turning back. He’d claim her, mate her, and bred her. When she’s attacked by a group of rouge wolves, Ethan fears he has left his claiming too late and will lose his mate forever. When he comes to her rescue, he discovers the spirited Lily is more than ready to be the mate of an alpha.

Lily Reynolds has been crushing on her boss since she started work at Wolfe Enterprises six months ago. She knew the chances of attracting the wolf into a long-term relationship were slim to none – slim being a state she hadn’t achieved since childhood. She loved her curves and knew there was someone out there who would love every soft, luscious inch of her voluptuous body. Heartbroken, she knew Ethan Scott wasn’t that man despite the hot and cold signals the wolf shifter had been given her for months.

Excerpt 1:

He wanted to strip away the pinstriped navy suit and finally see the well-rounded body that was pushing both man and wolf to the brink of madness. He wanted to see what she wore underneath. He had fantasies of her being bare beneath the businesslike façade, or wearing silk underthings made to drive a man wild. Did his mate have a lingerie fetish? If not, she soon would once he claimed her.

As it was, he was nearly undone by the sight of her.

In the past, he knew he had gravitated toward women who held only the most basic appeal to him. Thin in body, shallow in nature. He used them for gratification and nothing else, always waiting for the day his mate would walk into his life. A mate like Lily whose full, voluptuous body called to the beast in him. Her full breasts that begged to be kissed. Her curvy legs that pleaded to be spread. Everything about her was delightful. He knew he could spend days with her in and out of bed and never want for anything else.
