Shayla Black’s Wicked Lovers Tour Stop/Contest

hop image 3

Welcome to the Shayla Black – Who’s Your Wicked Lover Giveaway Hop stop. I am so thrilled to help Ms. Black celebrate their new release (TODAY!!!) of the next book in the Wicked Lovers Series, Ours to Love.

So the theme is wicked lovers and since I didn’t read the series yet-yes I know bad Raine- but I do have it on the wish list, I am going to talk about my favorite book hero instead. I love a strong yet tender hero in the books I read and I have to admit, Cherise Sinclair’s DOM, Logan,  in Master of the Mountain, is one man who makes me want to say ‘Yes Master’ faster than I can drop my clothes. *grins* He is a man who is tender to his submissive yet maintains such exquisite control I longed to see him break and break h e did when after years of nightmares left him feeling lonely and alone, one spunky curvy woman brought this masterful dominant to his knees. I loved how this strong forceful man was able to show his vulnerable side to the woman who fell in love with him one weekend and calmed the inner demons inside him. Logan is the book hero I can’t get enough of.

ours to love_layouts.inddNow a little about ‘Ours to Love’

Wicked Lovers, Book 7

Between two brothers…
Xander Santiago spent years living it up as a billionaire playboy. Never given a chance to lead his family business in the boardroom, he became a Master in the bedroom instead. His older brother inherited the company and worked tirelessly to make it an empire. But while the cutthroat corporate espionage took its toll on Javier, nothing was as devastating as the seemingly senseless murder of his wife. It propelled him into a year of punishing rage and guilt…until Xander came to his rescue.

Comes an irresistible woman …
Eager to rejuvenate Javier’s life, Xander shanghais him to Louisiana where they meet the beautiful London McLane. After surviving a decade of tragedy and struggle, London is determined to make a fresh start—and these sexy billionaire brothers are more than willing to help. In every way. And London is stunned to find herself open to every heated suggestion…and desperately hoping that her love will heal them.

And inescapable danger …
But a killer with a hidden motive is watching, on a single-minded mission to destroy everything the Santiago brothers hold dear, especially London. And as fear and desire collide, every passionate beat of her heart could be her last.

Welcome Toni V Sweeney

sinbadlastvoyageSpace Opera versus Soap Opera

When I started the series called The Adventures of Sinbad, I didn’t think of it as a “space opera.” After four novels in the series, however, I realize that’s exactly what it is…just one gigantic soap opera set in the future on a planet far, far away…and the introduction to this sudsy space saga might go something like this:

Welcome once again, dear reader, to The Adventures of Sinbad…the stories which ask: Can a halfbreed human-hating smuggler find happiness with a very human Earthling in spite of threats from the United Terran Federation, Sinbad’s nefarious criminal cohorts, and the galaxy in general?  Therein lies the question and thereby hangs more than one tale…

Why don’t we give the Adventures a once-over and see if they actually qualify to sell soap to the intergalactic masses?

Book 1, Sinbad’s Last Voyage:  This story, set in the remains of California after a gigantic, introduces our hero and heroine.  Andrea Talltrees is Navajo.  Sinbad is a smuggler, half-Felidan and resembles a man-sized feline.  He’s big, he’s beautiful, he’s sexy, and he hates humans with a passion because they framed  and killed his father, a Terran soldier.  That passion turns into an equally violent love when he meets Andi.

In the story we have: 1) bigamy; 2) an illegitimate pregnancy, 3) an invasion of Earth by one group while it’s fighting another group; 4) a terminal illness; 5) a husband accused of being a spy; 6) one smart-ass adolescent who smokes, drinks, and talks back.

Book 2, Sinbad’s Wife:   The title tells it all.  After begging, threatening, and trickery, Sinbad convinces Andi to make an honest man of him and they are married.  By this time, his illness has run its course and he’s in Coast City Hospital where the only surgeon who can save him blackmails Andi into becoming his mistress before he’ll operate.

This novel contains: 1) the aforementioned blackmail; 2) a forced seduction; 3) major surgery on the hero; 4) that same hero being arrested when he awakens from surgery; 5) the appearance of an illegitimate son on a wedding day; 6) two know-it-all teenagers getting into sexual trouble; 7) the reappearance of an ex-husband; 8) a second enforced seduction; 9) a helpful transvestite; 9) a second illegitimate pregnancy.

Whew!  Are you still with me?  Is this getting pretty sudsy and soapy so far?  Did you see the kitchen sink peeping out from behind that last paragraph?  Let’s continue:

Book 3, Sinbad’s Pride:  You can’t keep a good smuggler down!  Sinbad discovers a loophole in the Treaty made with the Federation which allows Felida to become a crime planet and get away with it.  Before you know it, he’s got the other pride leaders involved but in ways he doesn’t expect.  Each leader wants an association through marriage and sends him a daughter to be his concubine.

Soap opera elements:  1) the above concubines; 2) a rival smuggler harassing Sin’s ships; 3) a crash in which Sin’s sustains major injuries making him an invalid; 4) Stepson Cash eloping with one of the above concubines; 5) Cash sending his children with the above concubine back for Sin to raise. 6) Sin wanting to divorce Andi because he can no longer “be a husband to her.”

Book 4, Sinbad’s Triumph:  It’s just that.  Experimental surgery and computer implants give Sin back the ability to walk.

For further angst: 1) Daughter N’Sagar marries Sin’s cousin but has an affair with his son. 2) Father and son fight and the son is killed. 3) N’Sagar takes holy vows to achieve forgiveness; 4) Cash returns home to reconcile with his children and die of a dread disease; 5) Runaway concubine Senset becomes a prostitute; 6) In her mid-fifties, Andi discovers she’s again pregnant.

Can The Brave and the Beautiful, Dallas, or the Guiding Light match these storylines?

And now…loud drum roll here…TA-DAAH…

SInbadsWar-001There’s Sinbad’s War

Sinbad sh’en Singh, smuggler-turned-shipping magnate, has become quite the family man, knee-deep in sons, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, complacent in his quiet but profitable life—and then a Federation emissary arrives, announcing the Fed is once more at war, and he’s been sent to obtain sh’en Singh Shipping’s Darters for its nearly destroyed fleet.

Not surprisingly, he’s refused, until Felida itself is attacked and there are casualties in Sin’s own family, among them his beloved Andi and new daughter Milagra.  Enlisting in the Air Guard, Sinbad and his sons find themselves in the war, scattered throughout the galaxy, and facing challenges some of them never expected.

The whole universe is about to discover there is nothing quite so dangerous as a Felidian who’s lost his mate.

Don’t you agree this is definitely the stuff soaps are made of? What can I say?  And there are still three books to go!  Can my imagination survive the challenge?

Welcome Belinda McBride Today

BmB_BlacqueBlue_coverlgHi and welcome to my blog, Belinda. Please make yourself at home and grab a drink from my hunky cabana boys, Zeke and Jake.

To get us started can you tell us a little about what you are working on or have coming out?

My current release is Silver/Steel, which is part of the Arcada series at Loose Id. It’s the follow-up to Blacque/Bleu. I’m currently working on an update of the Truckee Wolves book Toxic, which was originally released at Changeling Press. I’m expanding that book quite a lot. We’ll see more of the pack as well as Briony’s family.

How would you describe yourself using only five words?

Procrastinate, obsessive, imaginative, opinionated, curious

If you could write a warning label for yourself as a person or an author, what would it say?

In case of excessive sleeping, release Siberians in the bedroom.

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

I love M&Ms. Sometimes I think they are the most divine food in the world, other times they’re just evil. I’m addicted to The Body Shop’s body butters. Have been since they first introduced their first two formulations: Mango and Avocado. I nearly cried when they discontinued the Avocado and changed the Mango.

Name one thing readers would be surprised to know about you.

My IQ is in the 150s. Most people who know are surprised because I’m not always the sharpest tack. Last to get jokes and all that. I still haven’t figured out why it’s that high, since I can only do basic math.

bm_silversteel_coverinIf you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

My two favorite places (to date) have been the Hebrides Islands in Scotland and the US Virgin Islands. I’d alternate between the two.

How do you get yourself in the mood to write?

I sit down and pick up the computer. It’s a job and a discipline and if I’m not in the mood, I switch to another project or task. Inspiration is random, if we rely on it to write not much would get done. Sometimes I write a very wooden, dull first draft. Its later that I can layer in the depth and make it flow.

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

I need a degree of peace and quiet. I generally get up around dawn with the dogs, get them fed and situated, then check my email. Then I write for a couple hours, till my niece wakes up. From there, my day pretty much revolves around watching her, so I do things that don’t require too much focus: marketing, answering email, etc. In the evening after everyone is in bed, I start writing again. All this is subject to change.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

I’m generally happy with anything written by Patricia Briggs, Charlaine Harris, Neil Gaiman and Nalini Singh. There are so many indie authors I love (and that I’m friends with) I can’t really dive into that list!

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

I’m eagerly waiting for the newest JR Ward (Qhinn and Blay!) and haven’t yet read the latest from Harris and Briggs. I’m trying to do better about reading a little every day. Unfortunately, when I start I can’t stop!

Is there something special you do to celebrate when one of your books is released?

For whatever reason, my appointments to donate blood always came on release day, so I try to do that. Generally I try to relax, go to lunch with someone, or maybe catch a movie. Just a little indulgence to keep me away from the internet for awhile!

Do you have a favorite TV show you can’t miss?

Nah, I’m not really hooked into TV. In the spring I sign up for HBO so my sister can follow Game of Thrones and then my mother watches True Blood. I’m hit or miss on both.

If you could date any character from any book, who would it be and why-no it doesn’t have to be from your books?

Hmm…probably Shadow from Neil Gaiman’s American Gods. There’s a quiet strength to the character that always grabs me.

What is the strangest source of writing inspiration you’ve ever had?

I was donating blood once and near my chair was a big picture of a family whose daughter had been saved by blood transfusions. I started thinking about a futuristic society where a blood disease runs rampant and how a strange species of vampire rises emerges because of that disease. That became the book Dragon’s Blood, which is part of the Black Planet anthology at Changeling Press.

If your muse were to talk behind your back, what secrets would he/she tell?

“Do you know she lets the dogs sleep on her bed? How tacky! And…she sleeps with her laptop. I can bother her any time I feel like it!”

Thanks for coming. Is there anything else you want to add?

The Arcada Series:

BmB_BlacqueBlue_coverlgBlacque/Bleu

Book 1

Loose Id

Paranormal, M/M, BDSM, Werewolves/Vampires

Lukas Blacque is a deeply closeted werewolf, and almost more than anything in life, he desires his neighbor, Oliver Bleu. Oliver is a vampire who is slowly dying from insomnia. More than anything, he needs Lukas Blacque and the rich blood that flows through his veins.

On the day that Blacque makes an important commitment to his family and pack, he also succumbs to temptation and agrees to a passionate weekend with the alluring vampire. At sunset on Friday, it’s all about urgent lust and the drive to lose his virginity. When the sun rises on Monday, lust has shifted to love and devotion. He’s not sure he can walk away, even for the commitment he’s made. He’s even less sure Bleu will let him go.

In Blacque’s world, vampires and werewolves make uneasy bedfellows, and a gay werewolf is an impossibility. In Bleu’s world, all living creatures are little more than vessels for food and sex. But in the mysterious and magical town of Arcada, the unexpected is always waiting right around the corner. Now Blacque and Bleu just need to survive long enough for Arcada’s magic to work for them.

Note:Blacque/Bleu is related to Chrysalis and Mad at the Moon, which are available at Changeling Press. This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Bondage, domination, male/male sexual practices, violence.

When dream hunter Dylan Ryve spots a beautiful shapeshifter raising hell in a bar, he knows he wants the wild young man. But Travis Feris is more to Dylan than a few hot minutes outside in the snow; he’s the assassin’s ticket into the magical town of Arcada. He didn’t plan to rescue the kid, but when he found the shifter being attacked, the opportunity to play hero was too good to pass up.

Through the solitude of a long winter night, Dylan walks in Travis’s fevered dreams, learning about Arcada and the pack, and showing the shifter the man he’d been so very long ago. When morning comes, both men know their lives will be forever entwined.

From Dylan, Travis learns that he is a strong, valued member of the pack. The dreamwalker sees his own worth reflected back at him in the dark blue eyes of the wolf. Yet when Dylan has the chance to free himself from centuries of enslavement, can he betray the man he has come to love?

Guest Author Day with Mike Arsuaga

So tell us a little about your latest book. What inspired this masterpiece?
“Lagrange Point” is the fifth and latest installment of the Subspecies series. I had several objectives. The first was to bring closure. The series began 125 years before. Lycans and vampires, the subspecies, had evolved from nature’s vilest creation toward something better. The second sought to insert a strong element of science fiction into the series. In “Lagrange Point” Robert A. Heinlein meets Anne Rice. The subspecies explore space, travel in time, and gain insight to their place in Creation’s plan. The last objective I introduced in “The Tenth Legion” when Cynthia May, the main character of “Lagrange Point” has an F/F relationship. Her preference for women is a lynchpin of the book, featuring several graphic scenes.
If you had any super powers, what would they be and why?
The ability to will anyone I came across to buy one of my books.
What genre haven’t you tried yet but want to in the future?
As a fifth grader I wrote steam punk but didn’t know it. The adventures, inspired by HG Wells and Jules Verne featured a sequel to War of the Worlds. The genre calls to me again.
What is one thing readers might be surprised to know about you?
I was left on the bridge of a submerging submarine and lived to tell about it.
If we asked your muse to describe you in three words, what do you think they might say?
Hard working writer.
What authors can be found in your library of books?
George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, HG Wells, and Harold Robbins.
Have any guilty pleasures you want to share with us?
My guilty pleasure is wife Cynthia, also a writer. She makes me feel guilty because she’s brought so much good to my life. Don’t tell her that. She’s already got a big head because of the character Cynthia Meadows. The grandmother of Cynthia May featured in five of the seven subspecies books, shows up on any list of the most beautiful women who ever lived.

Is there anything you’re currently working on that you can give us a taste of?
The five books of the Subspecies series form the overall framework of the saga. Now I’m working on stories of some of the lesser characters.
What is your favorite way to relax after a hard day working and writing?
I’ll give you a hint. It doesn’t come in a bottle, and you can’t eat it. Well, not truly, but nothing does the job better.
What is one historical figure you would love to chat with and why?
Augustus Caesar. Against all odds, he forged an empire from chaos. Next to him would be Vespasian, the no nonsense soldier/emperor of Rome who did the same. I sort of speak with Vespasian by proxy through the character Cithara, a vampire.
Would you care to mention any upcoming or WIP projects that readers can look forward from you in the future?
Included are “Daughter of Subspecies”, the life of Cassie White, Jim and Sam’s tempestuous daughter, and “The Book of Cithara” set in Roman times, told through the eyes of an early vampire as she rubs elbows with three centuries of emperors. “Finding Love in the Time of Decline”, is the story of Jess Moore. She provides a human perspective during the first half of the twenty-first century, in a sort of “Upstairs/Downstairs” relationship with the subspecies. These “Backstory Books” have no eroticism. PG only.
Out of all your books, do you have a favorite one? If not, then which one is closest to your heart?
My favorite is “Subspecies, Inc.”, the second installment of the series. Why? The subspecies moves from predatory creatures of the night, and begin to evolve to greater, nobler beings. Later in the presentation is one of my all-time favorite scenes called “A Vampire Finds Salvation.” However, the one closest to my heart is “The Tenth Legion” because my granddaughter inspired the feisty main character Lorna Winters. It’s the only one of my books to make Cynthia cry, and darn if she’ll tell me which scene did it.
Thanks for coming. Is there anything else you want to add?
I want to thank you for having me on your blog and hope everyone who reads any of my books enjoys them as much as I did writing them.

To save the future, Cynthia May explores the past—but has she unwittingly changed what is yet to come?
In search of an identity
Cynthia May, lycan and adventurer, resolved to do more than play the part of window-dressing for the Subspecies Corporation, she takes on the job of space explorer to forget. To break the shackles of the past—a lost love, living in the shadow of her famous grandmother, and defying the elders—Cynthia still finds after fifteen years a sense of failure.
In search of a lover
Leo Barclay has been Cynthia’s  long-time guy pal and fellow astronaut   since the SpaceAcademy. They’ve shared intimate moments, but nothing more than friendship flourished. “If only you’d been born a woman!” she’s often lamented.
On the next mission, an anomaly in the instruments causes an inexplicable increase in mental and physical abilities by the Subspecies crew.
In search of the Unknown
When the two star-crossed lovers lead an expedition to explore the effects of the Lagrange Point, where the gravitational fields of all planetary bodies in the solar system cancel out, they discover time and space merge, matter bends, and their place in Creation’s plan revealed. Conspiracies, murder, and deceit plague the mission. The convergence of the Point reveals more than Cynthia and Leo bargain for.
But at what price?
Teaser Excerpt:
“Are you lost, Commander?” A loud, jolly voice came from behind as she approached the bridge of the mother ship.
“Leo Barclay, you old space rat, what are you doing here?”
A wiry, straight-shouldered vampire who stood a couple of inches shorter than Cynthia’s vertical, blue-crowned loftiness threw back a russet mane of hair. Leonidas “Leo” Barclay fixed a pair of smoky, gray eyes on her. “You’ve been Earthside too long. Hello, I have a Command Pin now.” The left half of a uniform shirt thrust toward her, displaying a small gold badge in the shape of a five-pointed star. “You’re looking at this mission’s master.” Continuing to close the distance between them, he enveloped her taller, slimmer frame in two sinewy arms as she kissed his cheek.
“They must be handing out Command Pins in the birth control allocation these days,” she quipped.
“What would you know about that, you old dyke?”
Both laughed, slapping one another on the back.
“Blue hair? That’s different,” he said, stepping away for a better look.
“You know me. New mission, new color.”

Devon Falls 5: Moonlight & Magic

Dixie Sinclair has watched her cousins all fall in love and now she wants the same. Dared to go to the annual Masquerade ball, Dixie finds the one thing she desires: love…one problem…can she trust that it will last after that one night?

Michael Barnes is a rare white were-tiger who was thrown out of his pride long ago for a trumped up crime, Michael roams the world searching for the one place to call home. Finding that peace in Devon Falls, he finds the one woman who stirs him like no other. Can he convince Dixie that she can trust in him forever?

Teaser Excerpt:

Still, Dixie didn’t know what to do except try to make the best of it. It was only two blocks. Surely she had enough will power to last that long.

Yeah, right. She knew she was doomed as the scent of him, all male and spicy, teased her
senses and had her swallowing hard. Oh god, I’m in deep trouble, she thought as they reached Main Street.

“You know you don’t have to walk me home. Damien is just being overprotective.”
She felt rather than saw the man next to her glance down at her and grin. “Nah, it’s okay. I was going to leave soon as well because my Sadie is home alone and I don’t like leaving her long.” The deep voice said as it sent shivers down her spine. It had a slight accent that she couldn’t  place, and she wondered about the man next to her. Where did he come from, why was he here, and what was he like when the clothes came off? Then she heard the name Sadie. A terrible suspicion rose in her at the thought of this hot man having a lady at home waiting for him.

“Sadie?”

“She’s my dog. I found her when I was in Europe, tied up to a park bench with no collar and no water. It was like someone just dumped her off, but instead of letting her roam free or taking her to the pound, they tied her up and left her. It was terrible. Once I found her, she saved me from a solitude and loneliness that I never knew I had.”

Relief filled her up even as she tried to tell herself that she shouldn’t be jealous or anything.

She hardly knew this man. “Wow that sounds like a match made in heaven for you two. What kind is she?”

“She is a mutt—seems she is a little bit of everything, or so the vet said when I got her.”
Watching the way his face lit up in the moonlight had her heart turning over. The way he loved his pet called to her even as she tried to keep her distance from him. He was dangerous to her equilibrium, Dixie was certain of it. He kept her off-center, and it scared the hell out of her.

As her street loomed ahead of them, she stopped at the beginning of it and stuck her hand out. “Thanks for the escort, but since I’m almost home and nothing jumped out in front of me, I think I can handle getting to my house just fine.”

“Nope. I am to escort you to the house, not the street, Dixie,” the maddening man said as he looked at her with a smile on those luscious lips. Gritting her teeth, she tried to keep her frustration out of her face, but damn it all, she was old enough to walk home. It wasn’t like there was a crime wave in Devon Falls. Far from it.

Miffed, she stomped forward and tried not to hit the lug behind her. Of all the men in the
world, I had to have one with a streak of chivalry in him she thought as her house finally came in view.

Breathing a sigh of relief, she turned and ran smack dab into the broad, hard chest…the
chest her hands wanted to caress and explore among other parts of his body. A slight “oomph” came out of mouth as she looked up and felt herself drown under his gaze. It was like watching a movie in slow motion. She saw his face lean down and her one thought before those luscious lips settled on hers was Man, am I in trouble now.

While love and passion rise, enemies and misunderstandings become stronger. While resolves strengthen, the world and its nightmares stand in the way until one thing, and one alone, will save them–the pledge.

THANK YOU EXCERPT

“Princess, for you I have two words alone—thank you.” He uttered them softly. “Thank you for being in my head, in my heart, in my spirit, my life. Thank you for the constant sharing. Thank you for the love and for having believed in it far more than I ever did. Thank you for having waited for me to come round to how immensely I love you. Thank you for putting up with my…insufferable lover, as you call him.” His wide grin took them both in. “Mostly, thank you for always being there as your own woman, never a submissive slave. You are our master, the one who teaches and gives us new strength every time your spirit breathes on us. You are our deep-rotted core, the one without whom we wouldn’t exist or be where we are today. You have made all this possible, so again I can only thank you. I…no…” He glanced at Chris and received a silent go ahead. “We can’t live without you.”

MMMMMF (605 @Carl w/servants)

One moment he was in the spacious bedroom, driving his cock into the yielding flesh he had leaned against a wall and held up in his arms, sucking the pointy nipples in front of his mouth. The next, he was in a cramped quarter, three narrow cots lined up to a side under a tiny window, a fireplace opposite them, a small cabinet next to it. Yes, not the most comfortable surroundings, but Chris seemed at home with three young men whom the leader recognized from the dinner.

Blinking incredulously, Prince Caldwell stopped hammering. It could not be. What was happening was simply unbelievable and without explanations. Was he there in the flesh or just in spirit? Was he actually seeing his angel about to start his orgy or was he imagining it?

No, we’re actually seeing him. Ylianor’s soft voice put one doubt to rest. And he can see us, too.

Raising his gaze, the prince caught the flash of confirmation in the blue-gray eyes staring directly at him.

Well, there was no end to the strangeness.

Or to the Virt. She chuckled.

It must be your doing, Princess. Breathing, he realized his shaft was still hard, stone-like to be precise, and still drowning in her. Never happened to us alone.

I think it was more of his doing, when he opened up like he did, pulling us inside his core. She looked up and intercepted Chris’s gaze. He wants us here, evidently.

But you’re the link. He had no material evidence to sustain his claim. It just felt like a truth.

Does it matter who’s responsible, my love?

No, of course it made no difference, not to his cock throbbing painfully now that two of the servants—one dark, the other red-haired—dropped to the floor to pull down Chris’s pants and litigate his swollen piece among them. The third, a blondish guy, removed the angel’s shirt and sucked his nipples lavishly.

“Now the ass.” Chris accompanied the order with a vigorous push on the shoulders. The young man had no choice except to comply.

That his angel wanted it all was an understatement. He thrust his hips forward to tempt the two at his feet who took turns in swallowing him whole, if possible, while the other one was sticking his tongue tip right through the rear hole. It was so damn exciting Duncan wondered whether he would last at least as long as Chris. Luckily, from the blaze in the blue-gray eyes staring at him, the angel did not appear better off. Also his princess was having trouble, if the tighter squeezes on his equipment at each cock bobbing from one mouth to another were any indication, which made it necessary to slow things down. Taking the erection out of her silky trap, he brought her on the floor for a thorough drilling of her throat. As usual, she could not gobble it all, however wide-open her mouth was, much like the redhead at his angel’s service.

“Hey…” His gaze on the dark-haired, Duncan knew he was searching for a name.

“It’s Cully, sir.” Which the man immediately provided.

“Right, Cully, why don’t you hold…” Again, his angel faltered as he glanced at the redhead.

“He’s Jaylor,” the dark-haired servant provided patiently, as though he had already told Chris many times before. “And he’s Grain.” He indicated the blond at the angel’s butt.

“Got them.”

Sure you do, Angel. Come five seconds, you’ll have forgotten them. The prince was sure of it.

“So why don’t you hold Jaylor’s head still?” Well, maybe not since Chris managed to get the names straight.

“Gladly, sir.”

Guest Author Day with Shira Anthony

The Blue Notes Series:  Classical Music Romance By Shira Anthony

First off, let me share a secret: the Blue Notes Series is a bit of a personal fantasy of mine.   A classical music universe (a bit of jazz and rock, too), beautiful men, romance, and happily-ever-afters.  Then again, I grew up with lots of romantic fantasies.  No surprise, then, that when I finally decided to try writing a novel, it was a romance.

I grew up with music.  My mother, sister and I all had careers as professional musicians.  I started out as a violinist and, in college, discovered opera.  I sang opera professionally for more than ten years.  So when I was trying to figure out what to write about for my second MM novel, I thought about what I knew and what I loved.  From there, it was an easy decision.

Writing the books, however, was more of a challenge, because each of them deals with issues I myself have had some experience with as a musician: stage fright, long-distance relationships, and letting go so that you can allow your musical soul to shine through, among other things.  Difficult issues for me to face, even more difficult to write about.  And while I’m not a gay man, most of the men I met while I was singing were gay men.  Wonderful men, some of whom I still count as my closest friends.

Each Blue Notes Series novel is a freestanding story and the books can be read in any order, although the main characters in one book may appear as secondary characters in another.  The first book in the series, “Blue Notes,” is the story of former pianist Jason Greene, who escapes the pain of a failed relationship by running to Paris.  There, he meets a jazz violinist, Jules Bardon, and learns about himself:  what makes him happy and how to let go of the pain he’s been harboring for decades.

The second Blue Notes novel, “The Melody Thief,” is the story of cellist Cary Redding, a former child prodigy, sought after by conductors the world over.  Underneath the veneer of success, however, Cary hides a world of pain.  He escapes his past by drinking too much and seeking out anonymous sexual encounters in seedy bars.  But Cary’s dual life comes crashing down around him when he’s rescued by lawyer Antonio Bianchi on a deserted Milan street.  With Antonio’s help, Cary is able to overcome his past and become the man he wants to be.

The third novel in the series, “Aria,” to be published in December of 2012, is the story of Sam Ryan, a lawyer, and opera singer Aiden Lind.  Sam and Aiden are instantly attracted to each other when they first meet in New York City.  But Sam is still grieving the sudden death of his partner of seven years, and Aiden gets an offer to sing in Europe.  They go their separate ways, only to meet again, five years later.  But managing a relationship in the face of a career where you are nearly always on the road is a challenge for both men.  And Sam hasn’t quite gotten over the pain of his loss, either.  Together, they must find a way to work with Aiden’s jet-setting lifestyle and for Sam to move on from his grief.

The one recurring theme of the Blue Notes Series novels, other than music, is the importance of relationships to character growth.  Although there certainly are more fanciful plot twists in the novels, at their heart, they are stories of real human relationships and feelings.  Real men.  Real relationships.  Real emotions.  Many of the books are traditional romances, with a happily ever after (HEA) at the end.  Others, however, have the HEA earlier on, and focus on the growth of love and overcoming obstacles to love after the HEA.

Each story in the series celebrates romance and love between men, and each story embraces the creative spirit in all of us. –Shira

Excerpt:  The Melody Thief (Blue Notes, #2), now available on Dreamspinner Press, Amazon and AllRomanceEbooks

Chapter One

The Melody Thief

Tulsa, Oklahoma

HE SCREWED up his face, trying to ignore the bright lights at the edge of the stage, which burned his eyes and left multicolored imprints on his retinas. Cary Redding was barely fifteen years old, but he sat straight-backed, schooling his expression to reveal only calm resolve. Unlike some of the well-known performers he had watched on video, he did not move his body in time to the music, nor did he bend and sway. The cello became a physical extension of his body, and he had no need to move anything more than his fingers on the fingerboard and his bow over the strings.

When he played, he was transported to a place where it didn’t matter that his face had begun to break out or that he seemed to grow out of his shoes every other month. When he played, he forgot his fear that he was different—that he was far more interested in Jerry Gabriel than in Jerry’s sister Martha. When he played, he felt the kind of warmth he had horsing around with his brother in the backyard, chasing after a football.

For the past three years, he had studied the Elgar Cello Concerto, a soulful, intensely passionate composition, and one he adored. His cello teacher had explained that it had been composed at the end of World War I, and the music reflected the composer’s grief and disillusionment. At the time, Cary hadn’t been really sure what that meant, but he felt the music deep within his soul, in a place he hid from everyone. In that music, he could express what he could not express any other way, and somehow nobody ever seemed to understand that although the music was Elgar’s, the sadness and the melancholy were his own.

At times he was terrified the audience would discover his secret: that he was unworthy of the music. But then his fingers would follow their well-worn path across the fingerboard, and his bow would move of its own accord. The music would rise and fall and engulf him entirely, and the audience would be on their feet to acknowledge the gangly, awkward teenager who had just moved them to tears.

Tonight was no exception. The Tulsa Performing Arts Center was packed with pillars of the community come to hear the young soloist the Chicago Sun-Times had proclaimed “one of the brightest new talents in classical music.” Cries of “bravo” punctuated the applause, and a shy little girl in a white dress with white tights and white shoes climbed the steps to the stage with her mother’s encouragement and handed him a single red rose.

He stood with his cello at his side and bowed as he had been taught not long after he learned to walk. The accompanist bowed as well, smiling at him with the same awed expression he had seen from pianists and conductors alike.

In that moment, he felt like a thief. A liar. The worst kind of cheat.

“Young man,” the woman in the red cocktail dress with the double strand of pearls said as she laid her hand on his shoulder, “you are truly a wonder. You must come back soon and play for us again.”

He knew how to respond; he’d been taught this, as well. “Thank you, ma’am.” His voice cracked, as it had on and off for the past six months. His face burned. He was embarrassed he could not control this as well as he could his performance.

“He’s booked through the next year,” his mother told the woman, “but if there’s an opening, we’ll be sure to let you know.” She would find an opening, no doubt, even if it meant sacrificing his one free weekend at home. His mother never passed up a chance to promote his career.

Back in the green room, his mother looked on as he wiped down the fingerboard of his instrument and gently replaced it in its fiberglass case, then carefully secured his bow in the lid. He’d barely looked at his mother since they’d left the small crowd of well-wishers who had gathered in the wings. He didn’t need to see her face to know she was displeased. He didn’t really want to know what he’d done wrong this time, so he started to hum a melody from a Mozart sonata he’d been studying. Humming helped take his mind off his guilt at letting her down again.

“You rushed through the pizzicato in the last movement,” she said. “We’ve been over that section so many times, Cary Taylor Redding. You let your mind wander again.”

He tried not to cringe; she only used his full name when she was very disappointed in him. “I’m sorry.” His voice cracked again, and he inwardly winced. He didn’t have to fight back the tears anymore. He’d stopped crying years ago.

“We’ll just have to practice it some more.”

He’d also long since stopped asking her why she always said “we” would practice something when he was the one doing the practicing. The one and only time he had pressed the issue, she had responded with a look of long-suffering patience. For days after, the guilt had pierced his gut and roiled around inside until he had apologized for several days running.

“Hurry up now,” she told him. “We have a long drive back home.”

“Did Justin call?” he asked with a hopeful expression.

“Why would your brother call?”

“He said he’d let me know if his team won tonight.” He pulled on his thick winter jacket, grabbed the handle of the cello case, and dragged it across the floor on its roller-skate wheels.

“He can tell you all about it tomorrow.”

He fell asleep in the front seat of the minivan as they headed back to Missouri. He did not dream, or at least, he didn’t remember what he had dreamed about. He never did.

Welcome Sarah Makela

Character Interview with Ian Bradley from Blacklist Rogue by Sarah Mäkelä

Ian Bradley slides into the booth at the diner across from me. When his gaze meets mine, he grimaces. “It’s you again.”

“Yes, I just want to ask a few questions, if that’s okay.” I sit up a little straighter, feeling awkward at his brusqueness.

He pinches the bridge of his nose. “What’s this for?”

“To promote your… my latest book, of course!” I pull out a pen and notepad, ready to get down to business before he has a chance to decline. “Question number one is what do you want from life, Mr. Bradley?”

He glares at me. “What kind of question is that?” I open my mouth to argue that this is my interview, but he continues, “I want a safe, happy life with Hannah. I don’t want anyone trying to kill us. MAX Home Security needs to pay for what it’s done. And these headaches–”

I clear my throat. Maybe that wasn’t the best question to ask. “Uh, that’s enough for that one. Question two… what is your greatest regret?”

His lips twist in a smirk. “What kind of interview is this? You know the answer to that already. I regret letting my work at MAX come first when Hannah and I were together previously. We lost out on a few years of our lives because of my selfishness. Besides, now they’re after us. I could’ve avoided that.”

“But don’t you recognize that it helped you become the better man that you are today?”

He places his elbows on the table and then glances outside at the people walking on the sidewalk. “I’d rather not have gone through this.” His gaze becomes more focused on what’s going on outside.

I glance out the window, but I just see people going about their business. “What do you love most about Hannah?”

His gaze shifts back to me suddenly. “Everything.” He gives me a look like he’d answered that easily enough.

I cock my eyebrow at him, unsatisfied.

Ian frowns, but he draws out the silence a little more. “Fine,” he says, throwing up his arms. “Her smile, her personality, the way she isn’t afraid to take charge.” He glances back outside, and alarm widens his eyes. “Gotta go.”

“B-but… I wasn’t done.” I shove the notepad in my purse and quickly stand, trying to keep him from leaving, but he dodges around me, running for the exit. A loud howl echoes into the diner from outside.

“Email them to me then.” And just like that, he disappears.

An old enemy comes asking for help, but will Ian and Hannah make it out alive?

When MAX Home Security tries to hire their private investigation firm to prove the corruption the company is on trial for occurred without the knowledge of the upper management, Ian and Hannah are reluctant to help.

Unfortunately, MAX’s legal team thinks it looks good for their PR to have Hacked Investigations involved, forcing Ian and Hannah’s hand. But Ian’s headaches are getting worse, and Hannah and Ian will have to rely on each other even more if they stand a chance of getting out of this mess alive.

Excerpt:

Ian Bradley hit send on an email to one of Hacked Investigations’ frequent customers. This time, the business owner had needed him to check on his future partner to make sure there wouldn’t be trouble if he signed the partnership agreement. Ian had the potential business partner’s email hacked in no time, and within five minutes, he’d completed his task.

Easy.

The client was paranoid, and, even if Ian thought those types of assignments were frivolous, he had a paycheck on its way.

Slender, feminine arms wrapped around his chest as Hannah hugged him from behind. Her lips brushed his earlobe, and her velvety tongue slid along the edge of it. “Now that we’ve wrapped another case, how about we celebrate?” Her voice was a low purr.

He shivered and placed his hands over hers. “I’ll be right there. Let me lock down the computer. Bernard has been surfing some nasty porn sites. I’m not chancing that he’ll get another virus on my machine.”

Hannah nibbled his neck, and he groaned. She pulled away, trailing her fingertips over his chest and shoulder.

Swiveling in his chair, he watched her saunter toward the bedroom. Once she got to the doorway of the bedroom, she looked back at him, giving him a seductive smile.

Ian grinned and then spun around to face the computer. He changed the password again, tweaking the system’s safety features, and shut it down.

From the living room, he heard Bernard, the pint-sized gnome, talking in hushed tones entirely different from his usual loud, obnoxious demeanor.

The urge to see what mischief Bernard was getting into nearly drove him toward the living room, but Hannah’s sexy smile won out. He headed toward the bedroom, thinking of the things he’d like to do to her. His hand was hovering over the doorknob when the phone rang.

Sighing, he walked to the office phone, but it fell silent. From the other room, Bernard spoke in an annoyed, yet strangely husky voice. “Uh huh. Well, buster, I don’t care who you are. There’s someone important on the other line giving me some, uh, juicy details about something,” Bernard said. He had a slight manic pitch that always grated on Ian’s nerves.

Reaching for the phone and fearing the worst, Ian hoped whoever had called their business line wasn’t already completely insulted by Bernard’s behavior. He mentally made a note to keep Bernard caged when at all possible.

“Oh, stop your whining. You can call back later.” Impatience picked up in the gnome’s voice as did his volume.

Ian barely managed to pick up the office phone as he heard the other phone slam onto the receiver in the living room. “Hello? Anyone there?”

“Ah, Ian, hello. It’s been a while.” Senator Kendall’s voice came through clearly.

Writing Update from Raine

*waves* Hi everyone…I know I haven’t been much around here but been relaxing and recharging myself.

I am thrilled to say I am working on a unexpected story in  my Devon Falls Series. Let’s just say the muse decided instead of Grady O’Neil getting a subplot in Jenna and Marc’s wedding book, he wanted Grady to be center stage. Let’s just say once my muse got his idea into my head…well let’s just say Grady stood up really tall and screamed at me. *sighs* Soooo I took the bait and now I am feverishly trying to get this done in time for December as it is a Christmas/Yuletide story. :-)

So a little bit about Grady…he is half human-half fae. His mother had a one night stand with a fae lord and she came away with a bun in the oven so to speak. So needless to say Grady is trying to figure out his life-is he for the human world? Is he part of the fae world? Feeling like he doesn’t belong anywhere, Grady is shocked when Lord Kalen walks up to him and informs him he has been searching for Grady forever. Let’s just say the sparks fly and Grady finds himself drawn to Kalen even as he tries to stay away.

You will be able to see how the wedding plans are coming along as well as some of your favorite characters as well in Yuletide Magic.

Then I plan to start Jenna and Marc’s next part of their love story. So let’s just say after a few months of my muse being MIA, he came back brimming with ideas. I hope you enjoy the next few stories in the Devon Falls Series. I am excited to be back here after a little break and can’t wait to see what else happens in my little town.

Keep an eye on my website’s Devon Falls Page and you can get the latest news there and what is coming up in the series. http://authorrainedelight.com

Drowning Mermaids by Nadia Scrieva

BLURB:

Deep under Arctic waters lies an ice kingdom carved into a glacier. Those who dwell within it possess magnificent biological secrets. Due to the dangers of impending war, the Princess of Adlivun is forced to flee her undersea utopia and regroup with her sisters in Alaska.

Captain Trevain Murphy is a successful king crab fisherman who has spent his life building his empire above the sea, and knows nothing of the empire beneath it. When he meets a mysterious dancer whose father has recently died, he extends kindness towards her, unaware of her unique genetics and royal lineage.

Trevain’s attraction to the enigmatic Aazuria Vellamo will involve him in dangerous designs that will forever change his life, and his perspective on himself and his world. He embarks on perilous journeys in which he will need to release all of his insecurities and inhibitions in order to survive.

Teaser Excerpt:

It was his angel. He knew her, although she looked nothing like before. She was his Aazuria, his mythical heroine. In the dancing glow of the oil blaze, she was simply too dazzling to be real and he knew that he must be dying. As she hovered in suspension before him, her skin and hair were almost luminous in the dark water, almost phosphorescent. Perhaps she never had been real. It did not matter—she was firmly grasping his hands, and it sent a feeling of comfort and tranquility through him. He knew that she loved him.

He could see forgiveness and acceptance in her expression. None of the turmoil between them mattered any longer in this pacific moment. In her benevolent gaze, he could finally forgive himself. He smiled at her, although his vision was fading, and the world was disappearing. He tightly gripped her hands to thank her for coming back for him. He could not bear the thought of letting go; he did not want to be robbed of her touch. He tried to keep his eyes open for as long as possible, to keep looking into her unfamiliar ultramarine orbs. So this was what she really looked like, in her element. He wished he could have known her true form. It was mystical.

Trevain could imagine no better way to die. No better sight to see the last time he closed his eyes. A peaceful smile descended on his face, and the captain’s tired eyes closed for what he knew to be the last time ever.

Fathoms of Forgiveness by Nadia Scrieva

There is no divorce in the undersea kingdom of Adlivun. Marriage is a bond that lasts until death—even if death comes in several centuries, and in that time your spouse happens to become your sworn enemy. This is the conflict that General Visola Ramaris faces when she learns that the mighty Vachlan is behind the attacks on her kingdom. She has sworn to protect Adlivun with her life, but long ago, she also swore to love and honor her husband…

Visola must choose whether she will destroy Vachlan once and for all, or attempt the hardest thing conceivable: communication. After two hundred years of desertion, she has no faith in their feeble bond and knows she can never forgive him. When he threatens the person dearest to her, she must take action. Confronting Vachlan on enemy territory would be nothing short of suicide. She knows that if she falls into his custody, the deranged man would relish breaking her down and making her lose her sanity.

Princess Aazuria forbids Visola from taking matters into her own hands; she will do anything it takes to protect her friend from the man who wants to crush her. Alas, Visola is a crazy, uncontrollable warrior woman with the blood of Vikings in her veins. Why would she ever consider doing the safe and predictable thing?

Teaser Excerpt:

Meeting the scrutiny of his steel-grey eyes made her feel sweltering hot and bitterly cold at the same time. It was a thousandfold more difficult to tolerate the intensity of his gaze when it was penetrating her skull from the front instead of the rear. She felt like her eyes did not offer as much protection as the dense bones of her skull had. He was already piercing beyond her eyeballs to knead her memories with his knuckles, and to dissect her thoughts with his fingernails. She tried to get past the pain in her skull to objectively observe her enemy. His jet-black hair was pulled back into its classic ponytail at the nape of his neck. Had he not changed his hairstyle in all this time? Had he not grown hideous with all the horrible deeds he had done?

It did not seem possible, but he looked exactly the same. Except for his eyes; those vicious grey-blue eyes would have terrified any lesser woman to tears. Visola could not help seeing the blatant resemblance to her daughter in his face. Although Alcyone’s coloring was closer to Visola’s own, there was still so much of Vachlan in her. Seeing this; seeing the glimpses of Alcyone in this man who was little more than a stranger, drew her spirit to him involuntarily. Visola realized that she had to face the terrible truth.

She was not strong enough to face the father of her child.
