Welcome Joyee Flynn today

jf-ow-abevinhero3

Hi and welcome to my blog, Joyee Flynn. Please make yourself at home and grab a drink from my hunky cabana boys, Zeke and Jake.

If we asked your muse to describe you using five words, what do you think they would say?

I don’t have a muse… I know that’s odd for an author to say but again, I’m very literal and the idea of a muse creeps me out. Like an imaginary friend adults didn’t grow out of that should maybe see someone about that.
Name one thing readers would be surprised to know about you.

I’m pretty blunt and open so I’m not sure there’s much I haven’t shared. Okay, I’m not very a very girly-girl, but I do collect music boxes. I like very pretty, elegant music boxes of all types that family and friends have given me.

How do you get yourself in the mood to write?

I wake up! Seriously for me, it’s more how do I turn this noise in my head off!?!
If someone hasn’t read any of your work, what book would you recommend that they start with and why?

That’s like picking my favorite child or family member. If I have to pick, I’d say Trunk and a Skunk, which is the beginning of a four set of books that all the friends are in. It’s gotten a good response, some great twists and turns, and lots of fun, plus its newer so it’s not starting way at the beginning of my writing career.

Is there something special you do to celebrate when one of your books is released?

Write another one… Yeah, I’m lame. I used to get Starbucks and splurge on breakfast but then my doctor took away all my sugar. I hate that bastard.

Could you tell us a couple of favorite books that inspired you to write?

I’m very eclectic so that’s a long, long list. I will say it ranges from the Sookie Stackhouse series to Inferno. I like anything that’s not every day or normal.

Is music a factor for you while you are writing? Do certain songs put you in the right frame of mind to write certain stories?

YES! I’m a total music whore. Most times I like complete quiet or light music when I’m writing but yeah, it’s rare I’m doing anything else and music isn’t on. I have dozens of books that have musical references or something in the background that is crucial to the setting/mood/tone.

Virgil has been hiding something… But then again that isn’t anything new to him. He doesn’t fit in with the family that doesn’t even know who he really is. Learning long ago that he wasn’t normal, he strives to just fit in. Fate just doesn’t seem to have it in the cards for him.

Moreo and Foma have been searching for their other mate for centuries. Now that they think they’ve found him, Virgil’s running from them. Panicked that he’s only staying in Greece a few days and confused by his reaction, they decide to take desperate measures. After their plan backfires instead of opening up Virgil to being their mate, can they convince him they were only trying to help? Or will it be the last straw to push Virgil over the edge and leave everything behind to start over somewhere else, saying goodbye to the Mariuses forever?

Teaser Excerpt:

“Virgil, are you going to come meet Caleb’s people or stand there?” Stefan asked jokingly but I could hear the slight concern in his tone. “Dude, you okay?”

“Yeah,” I answered, clearing my throat. “Just weird seeing Caleb like this with all the grandeur.” I gestured around, lying through my teeth. “That and the flight.” I shrugged. “Sorry. Just kind of spaced out.”

“Then we should show you to your rooms for some rest,” Mareo said as he moved closer to me. “I didn’t catch your name.”

I swallowed loudly as I stared up at the massive man. Yes, I had to stare up at him. He was maybe an inch shorter than Foma but at least seven and a half feet tall. “Virgil Marius.”

“Nice to meet you, Virgil,” he said in a slightly husky voice. We shook hands and I noticed that Stefan and Patrick were talking to Liam and Lorcan again, everyone else distracted. They wanted to see their new baby before we settled in.

“Same,” I mumbled, trying to get back my hand and not breathe at the same time. If I took in his scent with how attracted I was to him, my fangs would come right back out and I’d be busted.

“Virgil did you say?” Foma asked, suddenly right next to his mate, both of them practically surrounding me but keeping a polite distance… Technically. To everyone else it might have looked as if we were just in a private conversation. “Lovely fangs you have.”

“Thanks, I’m, um, th–thirsty,” I lied. “Tired and thirsty.”

“Hmm.” Foma glanced at his mate and I had a feeling they didn’t believe me. “Then we should check on you during your nap.”

“Maybe keep an extra close eye on you,” Mareo agreed as he let go of my hand only for Foma to take it in his massive one. I stared into his light brown eyes and found myself twenty seconds from swooning. I swear he had gold flecks swirling around in them or something. It was hypnotic and alluring all at once. “Like as you’re lying naked and sated in our arms.”

I felt a thrill of desire go through me and my fangs, the fucking things, popped back out.  I shook my head and pulled my hand back as I got them to retract. “I’m sorry, no thank you. I appreciate the offer but I’m straight.”

Mareo leaned in until his shoulder- length black hair brushed against my ear. “The erection you’re sporting would suggest otherwise. Why do I get the feeling most everything you’ve said is bullshit, Virgil?”

Because you’re smart. But I couldn’t say that. “If you’ll excuse me, I want to meet my nephew.” I cleared my throat and went to step around them.

“Running won’t stop us from pursuing,” Foma warned.

Creed has been beating himself up for the hateful way he reacted to Bronx after an intoxicated kiss. However, it stirred something in him that should be brought to light. Creed must visit the raceway and stake his claim on not only the winnings but on the man he’s come to desire.

Bronx has been keeping his love a secret for three long years. The slip up kiss bears the same resemblance to the incident that caused him to lose his old best friend in New York. Will facing each other be a simple delivery of apologies or will they finally admit and succumb to their desires?

Warning: This title is intended for readers over the age of 18 as it contains explicit sex scenes and/or situations and adult language, and may be considered offensive to some readers.

Teaser Excerpt:

The slamming of the house’s front door brought Creed’s head out from under his Camaro’s hood. Since he’d moved into the guest house over the garage, he was used to his aunt finding him to fix a leak or burn some trash. However, determined steps crunched the pebbles outside and he knew instantly it wasn’t his aunt. Nope, his bitchy sixteen-year-old cousin looked as if she was about to make her weekly round. Here we go again. He was already shaking his head before she even walked inside the garage. Judging by the color of the sky, it must’ve been close to seven pm. She had been on the same routine for the past four Saturdays. Cassie was going to ream him for not going to the dragway. Since Sparco’s Raceway sat clear on the other side of town, his aunt didn’t trust Cassie to go alone. Since he was an adult, albeit a semi-responsible one, Aunt Georgia said Cassie could go so long as he did.

Well, he wasn’t going.

Creed hadn’t been to the dragway in a month and Cassie was fit to be tied. He heard the clap-slap of flip-flops against her feet and when they stopped suddenly, he knew she was right behind him. He could feel her lurking like some insane, hormonal teen.

“This is bullshit, Creed.” He cringed when he heard her gum pop. “Becky says Gunther is starting to eye Jessica in my absence. Can we please go tonight, please?” God, the begging had been the worst of it all.

Wiping the smut off his hands he turned and noted she’d gotten dressed in hopes he’d go race. He was ten years her senior, so she was more like a younger sister since he’d been raised by her mother over half his life. He’d really stepped up to take on the man role when Uncle Herman died six years ago. He’d even kept the auto parts shop operational but didn’t know he’d have to play the father/brother role and teach Cassie how to grow up. He knew exactly what this boy Gunther had on his mind when he looked at her. However, telling her any different would only cause more rebellious tendencies.

Cassie came only to his chest and her blonde hair was twisted up in some clippie thing. She gave him the sad puppy-dog eyes and even quivered her bottom lip in effect to win him over.

“No. I need a break from racing. It’s becoming too much.”

“Yeah, uh-huh, and that’s why every Saturday night you tinker around in here as if preparing to go, yet you don’t.” She looked at the empty carport beside his Camaro: it had once been occupied on Saturdays as well. His best friend would prep his vehicle for the races right beside him. Now, the vacant space stayed empty and cold, just as he felt. “God, what happened between you and Bronx?”

Creed crinkled his nose. “Nothing.” Which was untrue, he’d fucked up royally and he didn’t know how to set things right or even if they could be set right. A mere apology didn’t compare to the words he’d screamed at Bronx as he watched him leave a month ago.

Cassie rolled her eyes. “Right and when I saw him at Jimmy’s Corner Store the other day he avoided me like the plague.” She chewed her bottom lip, her look pensive. “He looked really upset.”

Creed tossed the dirty rag on the ground and slammed the car hood down. Cassie flinched and backed up when he took a menacing step closer to her. “He fucking should be. Three years… you think you know someone and they pull some shit that changes things.”

“What do you mean? What happened?”

“Forget it.” Creed moved to the worktable and tossed his tools back in the box, clanging them loud enough in hopes the noise would drown out anymore of Cassie’s probing questions. He didn’t fucking want to answer anything having to do with Bronx or why they were fighting. He didn’t want to explain his disappearance to their friends and feel like even more of a douche. Most of all, he didn’t what to face the aftermath with Bronx. How could he apologize for how he acted and what he said? Bronx had rattled their friendship with an unexpected kiss. However, that wasn’t what freaked him out. He’d snapped because he enjoyed it and wanted Bronx in a way he’d never before.

Teaser Excerpt:

Cal Larson walked into his house and knew something was different. The feeling of peace, of home, escaped him that moment. He tried to figure out what it was as he tossed his coat over the stair railing and asked, “Hey, Mal, you around?”

Silence answered him. He walked across the foyer to the living room, searching for his lover of five years. After spying no one in the room, he moved deeper into the house, his heart starting to pound and an uneasy feeling making his stomach churn. When opening the kitchen door revealed nothing, he made his way back to the stairwell and ran up to the master bedroom. Hoping that Malcolm was in the shower, he walked into the room and stopped short. Drawers were open, clothes scattered, but no Malcolm was in sight.

He ran over to the closet and saw the empty space where his lover’s clothes should have been. The suitcases they used on trips were gone, and with a heavy heart he sat down on the bed, anguish running through his soul.

“What the heck happened?” Cal turned to see the destruction of the room he had given him so many wonderful memories. Of Malcolm coming toward him, naked after a shower, smelling fresh and manly, and all he needed to do was touch Cal and he was lost.

Hearing a crinkle of paper, he turned and discovered a piece of crumpled paper stuck in the sheets of the bed. Smoothing it out as best he could, he saw it was from Malcolm.

Dear Cal,

By now you know I am gone. I can’t do this anymore. I have fallen out of love with you and moved on. I am sorry for this but hope you can forgive me eventually.

My best,

Malcolm

Blinking with shock, Cal stared at the paper in disbelief. His lover had decided to leave…without even saying goodbye or offer an explanation at that. He left a ‘Dear John’ letter and wiped his hands of five years of being a couple. What happened to loving one another and giving each other support as they pursued their dreams?

“Well goddamn me to hell and back, “ Cal swore as he stood up and walked out of the room, never glancing back while the letter slowly fell to the ground.

Mysterious roses keep popping up on Skylar Everclear’s doorstep. No idea what is going, a little disturbed by this secret admirer, he tries to forget it all since he just got rid of the latest line of loser boyfriends and just wants to do his job at the local bakery. But when he meets his new neighbor, Marc Douglas, he finds himself drawn to the quiet young man even as he tries to not let his libido take over. But on Valentine’s Day, a mysterious rose again pops up with a note to meet his admirer that night. Will Skylar take a chance that this time, love is right there waiting for him?

Excerpt:

Pulling into his parking spot, he wearily dragged his aching body out of the car then stopped suddenly. There was a guy walking out of the apartment building Skylar lived in, whistling some nameless tune. His jeans hugged his legs and the t-shirt made his hands itch to see what was under it. Swallowing hard, Skylar pasted a sickly smile on his face and started walking again. Even up close, he looked amazing and his eyes were gorgeous…a deep emerald green with flecks of gold. They captured Skylar’s attention and he must have looked like a moron staring at the guy but he couldn’t look away. The stranger cleared his throat and had him gasping like a fish out of water, heat washed over his face.

“Sorry,” he mumbled as he tried not to stare anymore but man, this guy was hot.

“It’s…okay. Um, hi”

That little hesitance had Skylar really feeling bad for scaring the guy. He didn’t mean to alarm him but there was something about this guy that had Skylar’s body humming and his cock was already half hard from the lust filled visions filling his head.

With a shake of his head, Skylar focused on what the guy was asking. “Yes I do. Apartment B3. Are you new to the building? I don’t think I have seen you here before?”

“Yes…I …um just moved in today.” The poor guy looked like he wanted to bolt.

Skylar didn’t have a clue why he looked so fearful. He put out his hand, “Welcome to the complex. I hope you get settled in and if you need any help, please just knock on my door. If I am not at work, I am home so it isn’t a bother. My name is Skylar…Skylar Everclear. I am in apartment B3.”

He felt like such an idiot with his hand out. After figuring he made the worst first impression, the mysterious guy shook his hand and smiled, tremulous but still a smile that made his heart catch. He had these deep dimples and he made Skylar think very naughty thoughts.

”I’m Marc Douglas, and I’ll keep that in mind if I need help, Skylar. Thank you for your generous offer. I need to get to work, but I hope we see each other around.”

Skylar dropped his hand and watched as Marc walk to his motorcycle and climbed on. With a roar the guy waved and zoomed out of the parking lot. Heaving a sigh as he watched the taillights disappear, Skylar shook his head and walked to his apartment. Then stopped and stared…feeling as if the ocean was going to swallow him whole.

Another. Damn. Rose.

He proceeded onward to his door and picked up the rose and then spied a note on the ground. He quickly opened his door and walked in, dropping his back pack on the floor as he dropped the keys in the bowl by the door. Fishing his cell phone out, he placed it on the counter as he walked into the little living area and plopped down. He stared at the note in his hand like it was a bomb about to go off. He had this nervous feeling in his stomach and he hoped it wasn’t a ‘Ha! Ha! Gotcha!’ joke or anything.

With trembling hands, he opened the note and just stared at it as he read the words.

If you want to know who your secret admirer is, meet me on the rooftop garden at ten p.m. on Valentine’s Day. All your questions will be answered then.

Just sitting there, shaking as he processed it, he folded the note and tossed it onto the coffee table. Slumped forward, he held his head in his hands as he tried to still his rolling emotions. After almost six weeks of roses, why does the person want to meet on Valentine’s Day of all days? Skylar didn’t know what to think. Is this a serial killer that was going to murder him? A crazed stalker? Though he had to snicker at that one. He never had a stalker, real, crazed or even one online in the gaming sites he used to play in before life got in the way.

He took a breath and sat back against the couch and tried to think the situation out rationally. Maybe his mystery stalker-slash-admirer figured enough was enough and wanted to see if he showed up. Skylar was unsure how he felt. On one hand he enjoyed the attention and was flattered someone liked him like that, but on the other hand, it was a tad stalker-ish and borderline on creepy sometimes. He never knew when a rose was going to pop up on his doormat and he wished he could just look in a magic mirror and ask to see who his admirer was.

Now onto Betrayed by Destiny (Book 1 in the Destined Mates series)

Paranormal M/M romance

Work in progress

Tagline: Can a broken man find the love destined to be his?

Maxwell Evermore thought his life was perfect. He had a wonderful mate in Jaden Creed, great friends and a good if boring job as a salesperson at an advertising firm. When he is sidelined by the leaving of his lover, his life over, Max finds that sometimes when one door closes, another opens & in this case with a lion shifter named Leo who will heal his shattered heart if Max will let him.

Teaser snippit:

He was gone…away from me and the life we built together. He was never coming back and though I wanted to rail against the injustice of it all, I knew I would forgive and possibly live again. But right now all I wanted to do was cry a river of tears as the pain of the loss of my lover finally had me to my knees.

Whimpering, I tried to stand but my legs wouldn’t keep me up. The pain was too intense as I felt the connection with the man I loved with all my heart, Jaden, die a little more as each minute passed. The connection that brought me such comfort was completely gone within a matter of minutes as Jaden walked away from me and the love I had for him. I never felt this pain before in all my life. I thought I could withstand anything life through at me but this anguish was almost too much to bear. Feeling as though my heart would give up at any minute, I crawled over to the couch and hugged the pillow as the tears streamed from my eyes, wetting the fabric as I wailed against all the pain that welled inside me.

“Why, Jaden?” whispering as I rocked back and forth. “What was so bad about our life that you had to walk away from me? Our three years together?”

Jaden’s last words replayed in my head…I don’t love you anymore, Maxwell. I found someone else…my destined mate, a woman who will carry my young and I am determined to be with her. It was fun but we were never meant to be together in a forever kind of life, Max. Be well and eventually you will find the one meant to be yours. I am sorry, Max, for everything. I hope you can forgive me…eventually. A keening wail rose in my throat as those last words of Jaden’s played again, striking my heart with a piercing arrow, causing more tears to leak from my eyes. Never expecting the one man that professed to love you and want to be with you to break your heart…heck he shattered it in a million pieces.

Sniffling, Max wiped his face with his hands and lay against the couch, “So we were not destined mates but that doesn’t mean we didn’t love one another, damn it.” Throwing the couch pillow across the room in a fit of anger he saw it strike the vase Jaden picked up on one of their excursions at the antique shows. He watched it wobble back and forth, like it was on slow motion then fall off the stand and shatter into pieces. That crash had him screaming out loud as the pain of Jaden’s exit finally became real. The pain was all consuming and he didn’t know how long he stayed curled up on the couch alternating between whimpers, crying and fits of anger. He ignored the phone ringing, the pounding on his front door…everything and everyone. He wanted to be alone and wallow in the misery that his life had become.

‘Moonlight Masquerade’ by Raine Delight

Contemporary M/M Short Story

Coming January 20th, 2013 (tentative release date)

Will be available in e-book and print

Mysterious roses keep popping up on Skylar Everclear’s doorstep. No idea what is going, a little disturbed by this secret admirer, he tries to forget it all since he just got rid of the latest line of loser boyfriends and just wants to do his job at the local bakery. But when he meets his new neighbor, Marc Douglas, he finds himself drawn to the quiet young man even as he tries to not let his libido take over. But on Valentine’s Day, a mysterious rose again pops up with a note to meet his admirer that night. Will Skylar take a chance that this time, love is right there waiting for him?

Sneak peek Teaser:

Skylar opened his door and groaned. Another damn rose was lying on his doormat. It ticked him off that he had no idea who was doing this but every freaking night this week he either came home to a rose on his porch or opened the door to it. It was enough to feel creeped out now. He looked around, seeing no one, shut the door with a soft click and leaned against the door in despair. It has been three months since he threw out his lover, Saul, after catching him fucking some other guy after one of the numerous block parties the neighborhood held in the summer and autumn months and frankly he didn’t know what to do anymore. All he did was work, sleep and work some more. He always seemed to pick those guys who are bound to break his heart.

“I must have ‘Loser’ tattooed on my forehead the last few years.” Skylar muttered to himself.  “Why can’t I find a nice guy for once? One who won’t lie, cheat or steal and break my heart by telling me I wasn’t good enough for them.” Sighing, Skylar grabbed his backpack, keys and cell phone as he hurried to get ready for work. As a baker in the local bakery, his day started earlier than many others. With Valentine’s around the corner, he was working longer than normal hours. He was in the bakery at 4 am and not coming home till almost five at night. It made for long hellish days but he enjoyed what he did. Plus he enjoyed seeing the people enjoy his desserts and hey, the paycheck after days like this made a nice chunk of change in his bank account. His mind on what items he needed to get done for the next few days, he opened then shut his door, locked it and made sure to pick up the rose before he stepped all over it, crushing the fragile blooms. As he turned and walked to his car, he wondered who his mysterious admirer was.

Skylar’s day got off to a good start at work as he hummed a long with a local radio station playing 80’s rock bands while he rolled out dough for cookies, breads and made delicate fruit pastries. He was finally able to take a quick break around noon when the front sales person, Marlene, poked her head in the doorway saying they needed more pastry hearts. Seemed everyone was buying those desserts for their significant other, or ordering the smaller ones for class or office parties. He sighed as the fleeting dream of getting off his feet for ten minutes went on by as he got to work making more goodies. By the time five o’clock hit, Skylar was exhausted but pleased. They sold out of many of the Valentine themed items and the specialty breads were also almost gone. He made a note on the dry-erase board what needed to be replaced tomorrow and clocked out, waving to the front sales people as he went through the door to the parking lot.

Shivering as he hurried to his car, Skylar fumbled with his keys before unlocking the door and sliding into the seat. Turning the heat up on high, he waited a bit before putting his car in drive to go home. All he wanted to do was grab a shower, order a pizza and veg in front of the television. He was so exhausted it wasn’t funny. Watching couples come into the bakery or men buying items for their partners/girlfriends was a downer to be sure. He never liked Valentine’s Day to begin with. He felt it was a holiday that Hallmark cards liked so they could guilt people into buying cheesy cards and florist could raise the prices of roses so high it was mind boggling. He never had a nice Valentine’s Day where a lover surprised him with dinner or gave him something romantic or funny or sweet. He was always alone on Valentine’s day and he tried to make sure he didn’t have to deal with people who were so sugary sweet they made his teeth ache. Finally feeling the car heat up, he drove off determined to not think of hearts, flowers and all the things associated to Valentine’s Day. It was for couples, people in love and not for him.

Hannah and her husband Nathaniel have always shared one particular fantasy—he wants to make love with another man, and she wants to watch.

When Hannah loses her job to a crumbling economy, she soon finds that an idle mind is indeed “the devil’s playground.” She latches onto the delectably naughty idea of bringing a third into the bedroom, but inviting a man they both know to join them could have far-reaching negative consequences. What they need is someone else. Someone anonymous.

After a hot night of ménage sex with a stunning escort, Hannah becomes obsessed with finding out the identity of their mystery male. Even when Nathaniel unexpectedly introduces another vibrant young man into their relationship, Hannah remains possessed by her fixation.

To what lengths will Hannah go to discover the real identity of “Mr. Anonymous?”

Teaser Sneak Peek:

“I want to suck another man’s cock,” he said.

She smiled. “I want to watch you.”

“I bet you do.”

After setting her glass down on the coffee table, Hannah crossed her bare legs over her husband’s lap and laughed. “I can’t believe we’re talking like this. It’s so naughty!”

She ran her fingers down the front of his already unbuttoned shirt and leaned in to kiss his neck. He smelled like wet pine after coming in from the rain. She kissed him again, kissed his cheek this time. Every peck left a pink mark on his flesh. Tonight, she’d paint him with lipstick. Her lips would be her brush, and his skin her canvas. She’d been waiting all day, and now this dirty talk was gearing her up for an evening to remember.

“Sorry again about dinner,” she said with a deliberate pout.

Nathaniel shrugged. “Hey, it’s not your fault the power went out. I wasn’t all that hungry anyway.” Leaning toward the coffee table, he stacked some cheese onto a cracker and popped it in his mouth. Hannah felt awful that finger food was the best she could do after promising him a meal to die for. She nuzzled his chest as he chewed. From the time he’d walked through the door, she suspected it wasn’t food Nathaniel had on his mind. Her husband wasn’t usually a dirty talker, but he’d sure gotten into it tonight. Maybe it was the candles. The whole atmosphere of the power outage fostered creativity.

“What else do you want?” she asked. “If we had another man here right now, what would you do to him?”

Nathaniel made an Mmm sound deep in his throat as Hannah pulled his shirttails from his navy blue trousers. “Are you undressing me?” he asked.

“Are you avoiding the question?” she answered.

He kissed her forehead, leaving a dab of wet warmth in his wake. “Have you ever known me to avoid questions?” He chuckled as she pushed his shirt down over his shoulders and teased his pert nipple with her tongue. “Oh, you do have a talent for that.”

“You like it, huh?” She leaned across his chest and bit the other nipple as it stood erect. “Well, then, you’d better keep talking, mister. I want to see it in my mind.” Sitting up beside him, Hannah looked out across the candlelit living room. Her gaze fell into the rocking chair under the vast window of the sunroom extension. “If there was a handsome young man, like that guy Jameson from your office…if he was sitting in that rocking chair over there, what would you do to him?”

“What would I do?”

“Yes, what would you do?” Hannah chuckled as Nathaniel rose from the couch and wandered toward the window. “I’m waiting for an answer, Mister ‘I’m secure in my masculinity.’ How would you make that boy come?”

Nathaniel set his thick fingers against the shining oak of the rocking chair. With his back to Hannah, he raised his head to the raindrops drizzling down the great window. She hoped the electricity would never come back on; this naughtiness was much more entertaining than anything on television. Her insides sizzled.

Turning, Nathaniel met Hannah’s gaze from across the room. “If he was sitting in this chair right here?”

Hannah squirmed in her seat. Her panties were wet just thinking about charming Jameson, the young gay go-getter in the grey cubicle across from her husband’s. “Yes, if he was sitting there naked, all dark and delicious, what would you do to his flesh?”

“The first thing I would do,” Nathaniel replied, walking around the chair, “is touch his face.”

She squealed like a schoolgirl. “You would?” Grabbing a throw pillow, Hannah hugged it close to her chest. “Oh, I’d never have guessed that. Where on his face? And what would you touch him with?”

Nathaniel rolled his eyes. “With my finger, you little minx.” He looked down into the rocking chair as though Jameson were really seated there. “I would brush my index finger down his cheek.”

Hannah cooed at the thought. “I’ve never touched a black man’s stubble. I wonder what it would feel like. Would it be fuzzy, do you think, or sharp like yours?”

“I imagine it would feel like mine,” he said, running a hand across his blondish five o’clock shadow. Nathaniel had an exquisite face: a squared jaw, a dimpled chin, a Greek nose, and a scorching look in his grey eyes every time a dirty thought crossed his mind.

“What would you do next?” Hannah asked, squeezing the square pillow closer to her chest. “I’m sure you wouldn’t spend the whole night touching his face.”

Standing upright beside the rocking chair, Nathaniel stuck his thumb in the air and wriggled it. “I’d put this in his mouth.”

“Oooh…” Hannah chuckled. “I thought you were going somewhere else with that.”

Her idea seemed to bring a blush to her husband’s cheeks. Swinging her feet up onto the couch, she hid her smile behind the throw pillow and let out a throaty giggle. “Nathaniel, you’ve gone all shy on me!”

“Never,” he said with a wink…

Welcome Author Shira Anthony to my blog

Aria
Hi and welcome to my blog, author Shira Anthony. Please make yourself at home and grab a drink from my hunky cabana boys, Zeke and Jake.

To get us started can you tell us a little about what you are working on or have coming out?

I always have several projects in the works. Right now, I’m taking a break from my classical music series, Blue Notes, and am working on “Stealing the Wind,” a slightly smutty mermen pirate story (anticipated publication summer 2013).

The third book in the Blue Notes Series, “Aria,” was just released on 12/24/12. The Blue Notes Series are standalone novels set in the classical music universe. “Aria” is the story of opera singer Aiden Lind, who appears as a secondary character in one of the earlier Blue Notes books.

Is there something special you do to celebrate when one of your books is released?

I usually just try to relax with family and friends. So much goes into publishing a book, that by the time the book actually comes out, I’m usually more than happy just to chill a little and take a mini-break from writing. This time, I celebrated aboard our sailboat at the Carolina coast with good wine and cheese. We sailed to New Bern, North Carolina and enjoyed the wonderful southern winter weather (60 degrees and sunny!).

What influenced you to get published? How long did it take for your first book to get published?

I self-published my first novella. Mostly I was just curious as to whether readers would enjoy it. They did! I sent my second novella, “The Dream of a Thousand Nights,” to Dreamspinner Press on a lark. I remember my husband telling me I shouldn’t be too disappointed if it got rejected. About a month later, I got a contract! I’ve been publishing with Dreamspinner ever since – they’re great people with fabulous cover artists and editors. In retrospect, I was very lucky to have stumbled onto them.

Do you have a book that was easiest to write or one that was the hardest?

Hands down, my latest book, “Aria (Blue Notes #3),” was the hardest to write. I must have rewritten the first 6 chapters at least 2 dozen times before settling on the storyline setup. I think it was particularly difficult to write about a career in opera—a career I had for about 16 years.

The easiest book to write is, ironically, probably my best so far: “The Melody Thief.” I had put “Aria” on the back burner after pulling my hair out, and wrote Thief during Nano in about 6 weeks (okay, so I didn’t finish the entire novel in the 4 weeks allotted for Nano, but it was probably the fastest I’ve ever completed a novel!).

MelodyThiefLGCould you tell us a couple of favorite books that inspired you to write?

Hands down, Marion Zimmer Bradley’s “Heritage of Hastur” from her Darkover series of books was the book that most inspired me to write. The Darkover series, for those of you who may not have read it, is sci fi/fantasy with romance. It features the first gay romance I ever read, and it’s a sweeping saga that spans centuries. It’s beautifully written with amazing descriptions and very romantic.

Is music a factor for you while you are writing? Do certain songs put you in the right frame of mind to write certain stories?

Always! As a former musician, I always associate music with my writing. Of course, the Blue Notes Series books are particularly connected with music. Each has its own playlist of music that appears in the story (you can find those on my website if you click on the “more” button for each of my books). I tend to listen to angsty romantic music, whether pop, rock, or classical, to get me in the mood to write. I don’t listen while I’m writing, though—I think it’s too difficult to tune my musician brain off and focus on writing.

If you could collaborate with one author who would it be?

If I could choose any one author, living or dead, it would probably be Isaac Asimov. The man was a genius and, my son loves to tell me, published in every category in the Dewey Decimal Catalog! He wrote serious sci fi, he wrote wonderful mysteries, he wrote non-fiction, as well. Just imagine spending time working on a writing project with someone like that!

What is the strangest source of writing inspiration you’ve ever had?

Dreams, definitely! And believe me, I’ve had a few strange ones. Sometimes I’ll get stuck on a book and the way past my writer’s block is something I dreamed the characters might do or say. That happened recently with “Stealing the Wind.” Strange, what your subconscious can offer.

If your muse were to talk behind your back, what secrets would they tell?
My muse would probably tell you that I let her run the show, even though I’d like to believe I have more control in the writing process. She’s fickle, so I’ll follow her into another project if she gets tired of one. Usually she doesn’t steer me wrong (she’d never admit to it, in any case!).

Other than writing, what are some of your passions in life?

Reading, of course. I’ve always been an avid reader. I also love being on and in the water. My husband and I just got our open-water certification for scuba diving this past summer, and I just adore being under the water. It’s like a completely different universe opens up to you there. I also love to watch Japanese anime (yaoi – gay anime – in particular). I sometimes find inspiration for my writing there, as well.

What books are currently on your nightstand?

My nightstand has some “real” books, but it also houses my Kindle. I have dozens of books I’m planning to read. Right now, I’m working on Andy Speed’s second Infected Series book. I’ve also got my buddy Rhys Ford’s latest,”Sinner’s Gin”, ready to go.

What can readers expect next from you?

I have two books coming out this spring, both from Dreamspinner Press. “Lighting the Way Home” is a novel in E.M. Lynley’s Delectable Series, and is a story about a chef who runs away to Paris, only to realize that everything he ever really wanted in life is back home in his old neighborhood in lower Manhattan. “Prelude” is the fourth book in the Blue Notes Series, co-authored with my friend Venona Keyes. It’s the story of conductor David Somers, who appears in all the other Blue Notes Series books.

Thanks for coming. Is there anything else you want to add?

Blurb: Five years after a prestigious scholarship jumpstarted his opera career, Aiden Lind has it all: fame, choice roles, and Lord Cameron Sherrington to share his life with. Maintaining his façade takes effort, but under his poised, sophisticated mask, Aiden is still the insecure kid from rural Mississippi. Then he walks in on Cam with another man, and the illusion of perfection shatters.

Philadelphia attorney Sam Ryan never moved on after his partner died, though he tried. Instead of dating, he keeps himself busy with work—but when he unexpectedly runs into ex-lover Aiden while on a rare vacation in Paris, he’s inspired to give their love a second chance. First, though, he’ll have to get Aiden to forgive him. Because when Sam was still grieving five years ago, he broke Aiden’s heart.

When rekindled lust blossoms into a true romance, it seems like the start of something wonderful. But Aiden’s career has him on the road much of the time, and the physical distance between him and Sam starts translating into an emotional disconnect. If Aiden and Sam can’t learn to communicate, their separation may prove more than their love can bear.
Excerpt:

Aiden reached up and wiped Sam’s cheek with the sheet, then leaned back against the pillow and inhaled long and deep. “Good God.” His voice was impossibly low and sexy. “That was incredible.”

Sam’s face warmed at the compliment, and he fought the urge to protest. Even after so many years of living in New York as an openly gay man, he still felt the stirrings of shame from time to time, his conservative Southern roots too well ingrained to ignore. But the moment of embarrassment was short-lived, eclipsed by his own unsatisfied need.

“I want to fuck you,” he whispered. “If that’s okay….” He had never been hesitant before, but he felt like he was seventeen all over again, doing it for the first time in the woods behind the cabins at summer camp.

“You’re joking, right?” Aiden laughed. “Hell, yeah.” He reached under the mattress and pulled out a box of condoms and a small bottle of lube, then tossed them within Sam’s reach.

The tension in Sam’s shoulders relaxed until he felt his companion’s hand rubbing at the crotch of his pants. His breath caught in his throat. Too long. Way too long. He started to loosen his tie, but Aiden stopped him.

“Fuck me in that suit. It’s so damn hot.” He rolled onto his stomach and lifted his ass in blatant invitation. “I want you to fuck me in your clothes.”

“Damn,” Sam hissed as he unzipped his fly and pulled his cock out. There was something thrilling about the way Aiden had taken control, something about the way Aiden’s words had sounded almost like an order that made Sam shiver. And, oh God, the globes of Aiden’s ass beckoned, tight and smooth. Sam stroked him while he uncapped the lube and slathered his fingers with it, then reached around to press at the hole he had only barely breached before.
“No prep,” Aiden rumbled. “Lube it up. I like it when it hurts a little.”

What the hell do I say to that?

Sam knew the feeling himself, although he had never admitted it to Nick. He and Nick had been tender lovers—the kind of lovers who explored every inch of each other’s bodies with gentle fingers and tongues. Their lovemaking had never approached the rough animal sex Sam had often fantasized about. That hadn’t been Nick’s style; he had been as laid-back and slow in bed as he was in life, and Sam had loved that about him. The sex had been great. Better than great, but now….

Sam rolled the condom over his erection and greased it well, then leaned over and spread Aiden wider. Aiden’s low laugh was an invitation, and Sam saw Aiden’s eyes filled with a mixture of need and playfulness. He pressed the head of his cock against Aiden’s hole, inhaling sharply as the outer ring of muscle gave way and he felt the warm tightness nip at his sensitive tip.
“Come on,” Aiden urged him. “I want it all the way inside.”

He pushed harder, Aiden’s inner muscles gradually releasing with some resistance until Sam was seated up to his balls. Aiden was half-hard again, and Sam grasped his thickening flesh with one hand as he pulled out. Then he pushed in once more, making sure he brushed against Aiden’s prostate. He felt Aiden’s shudder and saw the look of pleasure on his face.

“Harder, Sam. Need it harder.”

“Oh God, yes. But it’s been too long. I won’t be able to….”

“I don’t care.” Aiden’s voice was rough, husky with need. “Do it like you know you want to.”

The realization that Aiden had guessed at something Sam himself had long denied only served to intensify the urge to pound Aiden senseless. “Fuck,” he panted. “You’re so tight.”

The bed shook as he picked up speed, pistoning back and forth, letting go of all of his repressed desire. His shirt clung to his skin, his pants rode up his ass, but that only increased the pleasure that ran from his cock up his spine and pulled his sac tight. He came with a shout and a series of shudders, then leaned down so his face was only inches away from Aiden’s.
Their eyes met. For Sam it was like diving into dark water—he didn’t know what he might find, but he was caught in the siren song. Aiden’s lips met his, and something deep inside Sam’s heart let go. A door he had closed when Nick died opened just a crack. It stayed open for a brief instant before he felt ice in his veins as fear seeped back inside.

“Stay?” Aiden asked hopefully.
“I….” Sam hesitated. “Okay.” He knew he should leave, that he wasn’t ready for this, but he couldn’t do it. He was so raw, so hungry for Aiden’s touch. He wanted more.

Aiden smiled at Sam and began to unbutton his shirt.
